- You gotta give it to Meta, the commitment with which they are trying to make the Metaverse happen is remarkable, but while their vision might not stick. I mean let's be honest the Meta verse has a terrible reputation, doesn't it? They keep building over and over great headsets to actually experience our new medium.
This is the Meta Quest 3. The last and greatest VR/MR headset from Meta.
The Headset brings with it a new vision to the platform, Mixed Reality, but yet, under all the weird marketing still feels like a better version of every single Headset they've ever made.

Reverb G2, Bigscreen Beyond, Varjo Aero, Pimax Crystal
Pico 4 is the main competitor. And G2 would be interesting as the best of Fresnel optics (only the center area of course). I'm curious if you will be able to show the pixel placement issue of Quest 3 - because displays are placed at the angle, straight lines and text must look fuzzier on it than on G2 and Pico 4, but the real impression while wearing it could be different.
They had some amazing software updates for Quest 2, cannot wait what new features we will get for Quest 3
but...UGH...they still force that ridiculous Phone app on us for initialization.
And god help you if your phone doesn't like talking to your headset or play nice with the app

It's an interesting take on the price. People are willing to spend $800+ on phones where innovation is somewhat stagnant. If you've never tried VR before, save money on buying a new phone or the most expensive version of a phone, and try a technology that may enhance your life with a new experience.
Even on top spec headsets at 1000$ via DP headset is the small cost. Even more so on pico and quest and other mid range ones.
Headset 400-1000$
GPU 1500$ (at least for top tier)
PC the rest (cpu mem disk aso) 1000$
i agree give VR a chance. We spend over 1k on a same phone with new name and slight change. Meta Quest 3 will be my first VR when i get it in two weeks
I’m really hoping that Meta partners with boardgames makers like Parker Brothers, to bring reimagined adaptations of classic boardgames that stay true to the original games, but utilize the additional video game mechanics into a MR board game the way Demeo did.
Like Risk or Axis and Allies could now have unique map view of the same MR board, which would enable have really Fog of War elements added into those games.
Risk with animations n stuff would be so fucking cool
@@jhendies absolutely! Imagine seeing short mini battles play out at the sea in Axis and Allies, especially when doing the Pearl Harbor battle.
Not to mention, MR adaptions of classic boardgames have another critical benefit to them with respects to bringing new people into XR… If they already know how to play the IRL version, you don’t have to double explain how to play said game PLUS teach how to use VR/MR/AR on top of that.
It’s much the same reason that the Windows 3.1 version of the game solitaire did worlds more to train my parents and grandparents about how to use a mouse and GUI OS than all the useless “…blah, blah, blah” crap I ever said (by a long shot too). I’m sure looking back thirty years ago now on myself (14 then), to them I sounded like Charlie Brown’s teacher “…wah, wah, wah, wah”.
I can very easily see MR adaptations of classic boardgames filling that same teaching roll for the worlds of XR.

I totally pre-ordered the Quest 3, but i have a good reason. I own a Quest 1 and basically needed to move on to something else. Having said that, everything i see and hear about the Quest 3 is awesome, and I think it's the right choice for me. Even if there isn't any new games designed for the Quest 3 at launch, you still have new content always coming out like for games such as Beat Saber, Walkabout mini golf and Puzzling Places, just to name a few. I am curious to see how Drop Dead: Dual Strike looks on the Quest 3 also. Thanks for the review of the Quest 3 as I am always learning new things, or I at least value many opinions on the Quest 3. So far everyone I have seen review the Quest 3 has liked it and I pre-ordered the 512 GB model and got the elite strap with battery backup and prescription lenses, so I am pretty good to go when i receive the Quest 3 on Wednesday from Amazon.
I agree, I'm also running my Quest 1 still. And I think this is a worthwhile Upgrade for all Q1 users

For me the quality of the PCVR pass through would be my most used feature. I would like to see it set up for wireless PCVR as well. Seems like quality comparisons and tracking are incoming as well. Good work on the video. It really is hard to beat for the price. I'm coming in from a Rift S, which is very comfortable and good enough, so it's nice to think about possible upgrades.
It’s even more insane the first Quest had OLED. I really miss the black levels for horror games. The drop off in that regard on Quest 2 was jarring.
Yup I thought so too. I thought there was something wrong with my Q2 when I first got it and tried Saints & Sinners. Was hoping Q3 would be OLED, but here we are again. Maybe Q4 will finally have it?

Hey, by the way, not to be nosy but I saw that band of dark pigmentation on your left thumbnail, and just want to recommend that you get that looked at by a doctor to rule out a type of skin cancer called subungal melanoma. Just an FYI, the audio issue is a bug caused by Virtual Desktop. If you reboot your PC using VD at all, it can break the Oculus airlink/link audio. I've had it happen 4-5 times in the last 2 months. You need to go into your windows audio devices and re-enable it.
Please post quest 3 vc quest pro through the lenses. Ur really the only youtuber I believe when it comes to this

Not enough improvement to move from Pico4 PCVR, but for someone without VR yet, Q3 is the value king now 👑
My passthrough video looks not that good, even with very good light. It is not exactly grainy but it has more digital artifacts, like if the signal was too compressed. Has anyone seen that?

Looking forward to what the competence can be, for now still thinking games are gonna look better in PSVR2, but hopefully in the future we are gonna see devices with a combination of the best specs of both devices.
Was PSVR2 not Dead on Arrival like Vita? Sony have already distanced themselves for it.
It will be great when it is fully opened to PCVR.
What headset is good for simulators? I tried using my Q2 but the video over the Link cable looks pretty terrible when compared to other native wired headsets. I'm not convinced about the Q3 because of the lack of native DisplayPort over USBC.
@Tyriel Wood -- You said at 16:00 that bluetooth headphones are supported "no problem" but other reviewers said that there was too much delay when using Bluetooth connection. Could you clarify if Bluetooth headphones are lag-free?
They support popular products. Our Rift S was abandoned software wise, 6 months after launch. Need an upgrade so baaaaad haha.
true, but the rift s wasn't really their product as it was made by lenovo and they just used their software on it

As for the microphone not working, I found the fix to be going to audio output/input in windows settings and then manage your audio drivers. For whatever reason, my input driver for the headset was disabled. I enabled it and it worked normally as usual. Weird problem but that's pretty much all u gotta do
Yep, but it wasn't that unfortunately, it happens very often to me to have to reinstall the drivers because of other headsets
Just as a bit of feedback, VR Cover guys might start targeting their marketing towards businesses. Specifically marketing indicating that everyone that uses a VR headset out at a business (something the business is providing) gets a clean experience because you get a freshly washed VR Cover. So, they might buy like 30 VR covers for every headset - at a business that needs that many to handle the customer turnover.

I would like to know your opinion about a comparison in terms of wireless pcvr HMD to the pico 4. Do you share Guy Godins opinion about it?
The 3d depth is good in this headset? What is the stereoverlap value for this? and G2 center sharpness on the full FOV right? Crystal is so much sharper or not a big difference?

Thanks for the review.. the larger FOV has really got my interest. It's a shame it's LCD though, it really is a huge difference compared to OLED.. at least in darker scenes.. it really is a night and day difference. LCD looks like a grey haze it loses all vibrancy.

I just got the cover, thank you man! Nice video. Do you have any tutorials on how to properly install VR headset to get it to work on steam games with playable FPS? I have tried to play IL-2 via steam VR, and it was just unplayable - lots of software resistance before I even got it to work properly, now the fps is under 30 :( my system is a laptop from ASUS with a 13980hx + 4070RTX 16gig of ram, 2 TB SSD & so on. I thought it should be able to run it, turns out it doesn't have the muscle for it. Furthermore, I don't want to buy a new rig or a new laptop just to run my VR properly on it... Have you got any tips or tutorials for people like me? Thank you.
I think a good question to answer is that if the PCVR experience is much improved to justify the (almost double) price tag of the quest 2.
That's completely the wrong way to look at it. For PCVR the appropriate challange in that space is the HP Reverb G2 which retails in the UK for £719 pounds. The Quest 3 uncuts that by £100 pounds selling at £619. I know there might be minimal artifacts but with a sold PC behind you, it's so close to PCVR and you have edge to edge clarity as well, plus all the other headset talants that's it's still really good value for money.
@@dtrjonesThey might be asking specifically between Q2 and Q3 for any PCVR improvements that would make them pay to upgrade from what they currently have.

MR functionality is not required.
What we are looking for is good image quality and a large sweet spot.

How is brightness? The Pico 4 is pretty dim, is this better? Also, Heise reviewed this as well and stated the brightness uniformity was poor - the edges were much darker. Did you notice this as well?
If I get one, I'll get headphones, a stand, controller straps, better head strap, lens cover, and facial interface. I hope that won't run more than $150 more. But we'll see.
I'm sure prices will drop fairly quick as Zuck had to reduce production (by a lot) due to the lack of pre-orders. Patience!

I got the Meta Quest 3 a few days ago. I was instantly amazed when first starting it and putting it on. Not so much since... Asgard's Wrath is a freebie which needs to be downloaded to PC and this process sucks. It seems if one can not do a full continuous download of 80+ gig, even though the Oculus software provides a "pause", when continuing the download it appears to either be starting all over, or verifying the previously downloaded files. This takes a very long time, almost as long as the original download thus far, and thus, I can not proceed further than about 20gb. Searching various forums it seems the Oculus software has had this problem for MORE THAN THREE YEARS! I love and am amazed by the hardware, but this inability to handle a simple download is so frustrating (how many years, decades, have we been downloading now?) I'm darn near to the point of returning it.
How do you get them to send you stuff like that to test I've tried signing up everywhere
