RoR2 is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. I have been trying to get one achievement for a month or two, but that hasn't stopped me. The way the game keeps me coming back, even after countless failures, is a testament to how well everything is done.
The game is a gamble with it's major rng factor, I still remember beginner runs of mine where I used the shrine of order because "Oh what's this?" and suddenly had 22 stacked teddy bears and my build was suddenly dogshit. A lot of the stuff is not blatantly obvious but was mit my fault? Well, I could have not taken it so yes. Could the game have warned me about what I was about to do? Absolutely! The game is hard because a lot of things are non-descriptive and you have to find out and make your own mistakes. It can feel like absolute bullshit at times but that's just the learning curve.
7:32 this is basically what happened with gearbox and risk of rain recently. they announced a new dlc, sotv came to console, everything fine and dandy until they announced the fucking mobile gotcha game which immediately made everyone upset. truly one of the game companies of all time.
Look i love this game, but even the game itself sometimes agrees that “that was absolutely not your fault” you can absolutely get rng that is basically unwinnable. But the next run might just start you off with 3 red items.
Honestly take the same wording and inflections of the negative reviews on here and just flip the thumb upside down and you have my collective review of the game :3
Getting left behind is KINDA valid. If you die in the mid-game, your friends will have WAY more survivability that you and you're most likely never recover. But dying is also the player's fault and it's pretty easy to say "hey, can you open a few extra chests for me so I don't eat ass again?" One of my friends died early on and was super behind in power--it was as easy as letting him have a few extra chests in the next area.
I remember once I did a run (obviously on command) where I got 255 clovers and right before I finished my game almost crashed and I had to wait 10 minutes for the game to load, good times
Honestly the criticism is pretty fair, my only issue is collapse in the later runs, its not hard managing the multiple enemies but it feels like if you get hit once or twice and catch collapse, your death is sealed. Outside of that and some of the blinding lights i love the game
The "Gearbox bad" reviews have aged pretty poorly because the new DLC looks like ABSOLUTE FIRE! Also, apparently they completely redid the codebase for the SoTV console update, to match the PC version. No wonder it took so long.
@@funnydishrag1267 One that I've heard isn't actually being developed by Gearbox. And anyway, the gacha game isn't Risk of Rain 2, and the people who are leading the development of RoR2 now are people who care about the game.
I feel like the lag spikes makes it 12x funnier. It'd already be goofy if you start the teleporter and everything just dies instantly... But the fact everything freezes for a bit then suddenly everything's dead once your frames return is so entertaining.
It's a hassle to do but if you are worried about the game crashing you can use mods to remove some of the extra visual effects and cut down on entities. From something as simple as removing the tails on the various rockets and the chests after they are opened. To more extreme things like extra particles and area of effect indicators.
that one callout review does kind of have a point, if you die early on and your friends take too long on a given stage, you can get power-scaled quick. the lack of XP and items can sometimes make it impossible to catch up, keeping you in a loop of dying and spectating everywhere but the Bazaar. that's why me and my friends play with a mod that respawns players after a given amount of time (I think base is like 90 seconds) that scales with time spent, amount of times the player has died, stage number, and difficulty
Great video, just picked up the game since the DLC and have run into all of these problems only to realize it was just me being bad LOL, now I can't stop playing though and looping 20 times only to have my eyes screwed up for the next two hours
Well you can play smart, or stack gestures, powercells, and a blast shower to become invincible to everything except for the black holes that come from the void creatures
I JUST had my closest monsoon run ever and I died in Mythrix phase 3 and that was the best gaming experience I've had all week. For real. This game's difficulty gets more perfect and addictive the more I play and learn.
not every death is own foult... i even saw i death in a ternament that wasnt his foult becouse he just got fell trought the floor and was stuck in there and instantly died without him behing abled to do anything. or what just happend to me a few seconds ago... the voidling boss killed me with the big laser wile i was standing behind a pillar
"Every death is your fault." Seriously...as so many other comments have basically mentioned, can we collectively agree to just..stop fucking saying this? Ever? There has not been a single game in existence that has a death state that does not have something in it that can unfairly kill you with no reasonable way for you to avoid it, and it is only ever used as an argument to justify bullshit in people's favorite games because they can't stand the mechanics being criticized. Yes, very often, the thing that killed the person complaining was their fault. But that does not mean that literally every single person has always died because of their own skill level, so jsut.......can we stop using this elitist bullshit as an excuse for calling people shit at games? There are way more justifiable ways to do that.
This. Too bad these games attract cult-lile fanbases that would rather use any manner of mental gymnastics to deflect any criticism of their favourite thing instead of actually taking a step back and realizing that it's not perfect, and they can still like it.
Literally this! This guy loves to suck off any game he plays like it's second coming of christ like bro accept some games have flaws and move on game having flaws doesn't mean its a bad game.
That's why I love Noita, 90% of deaths are complete bullshit and completely out of your control, to the point that the community has a handmade term for it. Getting Noita'd.
I think my favorite brainless defense of RoR2's complete lack of respect for the player's time and effort put into it is from the people who abuse game mechanics into performing in ways never intended, abuse glitches, and pretend the one shot protection does literally anything at all in any way shape or form, when every single enemy in the game can completely ignore it in every scenario. "The game is fun when you break every possible mechanic you can in order to make it vaugely fun, just git good lul" Don't get me wrong, there's a fun value to the game, but taking it as a personal offense when people bring up real issues with a game that still haven't been fixed? That's helping nobody fam, especially when the shitshow is now owned by gearbox, and will never be fixed. Let's not also ignore the fact the game is TERRIBLY optimized, the entire game is supposedly built around modifying your attacks and build via items that can sometimes drastically change how they function.... but when you do that in any way shape or form beyond a single item, your framerate tanks from 120 to fucking 3, regardless of the fact you have a 3090 32 gigs of ram
This. RoR 2 fans are like a cult unfortunately. It just oozes too much vibes and quirkiness for any flaws or bad design to be unintentional apparently. I like the game a lot myself (even though survivors of the void sucked besides the new items and characters which you can't even use without the rest of the dlc), I 100%d it and did max eclipse with most characters, and have been having a blast with RoRR lately, but it's just sad how ignorant and disingenuous the beginning of this video is, and knowing that this mindset is unironically what a lot of the fans believe.
The only problems I have with Risk of Rain 2 and Hopoo is that they: - Rigged the captain character poll, Captain and his cutscene already being well under development about a month and a half before 1.0's launch - When Captain (mystery character) started losing to RoR1 legacy characters, they took down the poll, blaming it on an "outage" - When the poll came back online, the "mystery character" had mysteriously gained thousands of votes, catapulting it to 1st place by a comfortable margin. - Hopoo and the mod team immediately began muting and banning people in the Discord server if they pointed out this really obvious discrepancy. - They never implemented any of the RoR1 legacy characters. Also, in many of their dev thoughts posts, they mentioned supporting the game with free content updates with the *possibility* of paid DLC. After 1.0 dropped, they went back and retroactively, and silently, edited ALL of those dev thought blogs where they scrubbed ANY mention of free content updates from the face of the Earth, and either replaced them with more talk of paid DLC as if it was always the plan, or simply cut out the section entirely. I don't blame them for selling out to Gearbox, I definitely would have done the same. I *do* blame them for using shady and deceptive marketing and PR strategies to build undue consumer good will, *while* masquerading as an "indie company" *while* having the backing and support of one of the biggest AAA publishers on the market.
Hey, trying to look this up online leads to no results, is there any documentation on this anywhere? I was initially going to look up the details out of curiosity, but because nothing is showing up, it leads me to believe that its attempting to be pushed aside
"you offered to the shrine but gain nothing" fun fact! My friend got the achievement for getting nothing 3 times in a row whilst I had to actively work for several days to try as many shrines as I could to finally get that achievement. I guess I had to make up for my good luck after, because now I rarely get imposter in among us
literally the only improvements to base risk of rain 2 i can think of is 1: show a stats window 2: show item stats and exactly what they do during a run thats literally it, the art design and level creation is amazing, the music is blessed and oh, dont get me started on how well written item description and lore pieces are, combined with the gameplay loop with TONS of unlockable: characters, items, different modifiers, unique rng "things" each run. i legit believe the only things that can be improved are the information shown to us mid-game
And now we have an idea of what Gearbox is doing with RoR; a mobile gacha and another dlc to 2.. Im all for another dlc, but fuck the mobile gacha (it is another platform that RoR will be on tho) also kinda exited for RoR returns (MADE by hoopoo), never got to play the original so I'll probably pick this up
i love how much the gearbox complaint has aged, the only dislikeable thing to coe out from gearbox is hostile worlds, which is in itelf an entire new ror game, despite its genre. with the sotv release on console being throughly made, to make it perfect and better, with the new dlc coming to risk of rain 2 and the claim of eentertaining the community for 5-10 years

RoR2 is honestly one of my favorite games of all time. I have been trying to get one achievement for a month or two, but that hasn't stopped me. The way the game keeps me coming back, even after countless failures, is a testament to how well everything is done.
I love the artifacts of command and sacrifice those two are the key for looping or kicking the sh*t out of mithrix
4:10 . They have a point. The game is strange, artwork and music too. I say this yet I have almost 300 hours total in it.
I have epilepsy and I still play this game, its a little funny getting that tingle in the back of my skull and wondering "ooh boy is it happening"
“One shot protection”
The 40 unneccesary multi hit enemies in the game:
The only one shot protection is the friends we made along.
And a lot of wisps
okay but i just WISH the game had a photosensitive mode. my brain just starts hurting after i play it too much.
7:14 Well they succeeded in that regard, they gave us the ability to look at the logbook & your inventory while in a run. So that’s neat
and they also managed to break everything about the game! thats pretty neat if i do say so myself
@@okmoby This was made when I tried to be optimistic
@@diananer i was about to buy it too
The game is a gamble with it's major rng factor, I still remember beginner runs of mine where I used the shrine of order because "Oh what's this?" and suddenly had 22 stacked teddy bears and my build was suddenly dogshit.
You offer to the shrine, but gain nothing.
Shout out Risk of Rain 2 for fueling my gambling addiction.
I offer to the shrine, but gain nothing... Nothing but a void that can only be filled by offering more to the shrine...
the funniest part about complaining about getting oneshot is that there is literally oneshot protection
That works once in a blue moon
@@froggygoblin6514 most boss enemies are gonna hit ya twice or smth, s it never works
That clip at the beginning of accidentally tackling yourself to a wall as merc hurt man. I lost an eclipse 7 run like that once.
7:32 this is basically what happened with gearbox and risk of rain recently. they announced a new dlc, sotv came to console, everything fine and dandy until they announced the fucking mobile gotcha game which immediately made everyone upset. truly one of the game companies of all time.
huntress' legs make the [BLAZING BRASS CONTRAPTION: HORDE OF MANY] worth it
Look i love this game, but even the game itself sometimes agrees that “that was absolutely not your fault” you can absolutely get rng that is basically unwinnable. But the next run might just start you off with 3 red items.
Honestly take the same wording and inflections of the negative reviews on here and just flip the thumb upside down and you have my collective review of the game :3
we need a sequel with the new update
7:30 oh boy the irony
seekers of the storm still hurts
The "Gearbox bad" reviews have aged pretty poorly because the new DLC looks like ABSOLUTE FIRE!
Also, apparently they completely redid the codebase for the SoTV console update, to match the PC version. No wonder it took so long.
i wouldn't say it entirely aged poorly because of that mobile gacha game they announced alongside the dlc
@@funnydishrag1267 One that I've heard isn't actually being developed by Gearbox.
And anyway, the gacha game isn't Risk of Rain 2, and the people who are leading the development of RoR2 now are people who care about the game.
Lol, lmao
@@tarkin6226 I enjoy the DLC but yeah the launch was rough
9:17 what I hear when I predict what my RNG will be in my head
6:48 I can't wait for their new game Chance of Precipitation!!
I feel like the lag spikes makes it 12x funnier. It'd already be goofy if you start the teleporter and everything just dies instantly... But the fact everything freezes for a bit then suddenly everything's dead once your frames return is so entertaining.
Thank you for teaching me about the one shot protection, always wondered what that lil part of the healthbar was for and now it makes so much sense.
Now that you mention the gearbox deal I'll look up what Hopoo is cooking up, thanks for the reminder.
I remember finding out about that risk of rain nsfw comics because one guy was ranting about it in reviews
?
"You offered to the shrine but gain nothing" the epitome of my suffering
It's a hassle to do but if you are worried about the game crashing you can use mods to remove some of the extra visual effects and cut down on entities. From something as simple as removing the tails on the various rockets and the chests after they are opened. To more extreme things like extra particles and area of effect indicators.
A blue portal spawning on Rallypoint Delta is enough to blind anyone.
that one callout review does kind of have a point, if you die early on and your friends take too long on a given stage, you can get power-scaled quick. the lack of XP and items can sometimes make it impossible to catch up, keeping you in a loop of dying and spectating everywhere but the Bazaar. that's why me and my friends play with a mod that respawns players after a given amount of time (I think base is like 90 seconds) that scales with time spent, amount of times the player has died, stage number, and difficulty
90% of gamblers quit before their big win
You offer to the shrine, you gain nothing...
Htwo turning into a gorilla when the frames drop is hilarious.
Great video, just picked up the game since the DLC and have run into all of these problems only to realize it was just me being bad LOL, now I can't stop playing though and looping 20 times only to have my eyes screwed up for the next two hours
7:36 we got our answer
Yup unfortunately
Well you can play smart, or stack gestures, powercells, and a blast shower to become invincible to everything except for the black holes that come from the void creatures
I forgor to mention a safer spaces
I JUST had my closest monsoon run ever and I died in Mythrix phase 3 and that was the best gaming experience I've had all week. For real.
This game's difficulty gets more perfect and addictive the more I play and learn.
45% of the video being an intro... wow sure makes me want to watch the full thing
not every death is own foult... i even saw i death in a ternament that wasnt his foult becouse he just got fell trought the floor and was stuck in there and instantly died without him behing abled to do anything. or what just happend to me a few seconds ago... the voidling boss killed me with the big laser wile i was standing behind a pillar
I don’t know man, I’ve been going for the 20 round achievement when I just died randomly and it said the planet wasn’t happy.
"Every death is your fault."
Seriously...as so many other comments have basically mentioned, can we collectively agree to just..stop fucking saying this?
No lol
Literally this! This guy loves to suck off any game he plays like it's second coming of christ like bro accept some games have flaws and move on game having flaws doesn't mean its a bad game.
That's why I love Noita, 90% of deaths are complete bullshit and completely out of your control, to the point that the community has a handmade term for it. Getting Noita'd.
Blind pests when I have 19477384747 rockets every quarter of a second as Mul-T
Good news! Console dlc is coming on nov 8! (Hopefully it isnt terribly buggy)
Lmao the dude that put " Your offered to the shrine and gain nothing " is my friend XD
@@b.w.s3165 Yeah yeah whatever, I have heard this enough times
this video aged like fine wine. gearbox announced a risk of rain gatcha game the other day
this aged well
tbh you cant tell me that the killing shockwave of that Jellyfish is fair
Watching this now and seeing all the gearbox hate feels weird, since in the new dlc they're adding chef
Aaaand the new dlc has broken everything.
I'll never forgive hoopo for selling out. I hope all of their future projects ends up failing.
@@Artisan_SD theres no fucking way this is hopoos fault, its all on gearbox
@@fourstones1860 yeah but they sold the game to a bad developer
@@mattguy1773dude they got lifechanging amounts of money and gave gearbox tips on what to do what do you want more?
The gear box slander was right on the nose, considering a gacha game for mobile was recently announced
The only problems I have with Risk of Rain 2 and Hopoo is that they:
- Rigged the captain character poll, Captain and his cutscene already being well under development about a month and a half before 1.0's launch
- When Captain (mystery character) started losing to RoR1 legacy characters, they took down the poll, blaming it on an "outage"
- When the poll came back online, the "mystery character" had mysteriously gained thousands of votes, catapulting it to 1st place by a comfortable margin.
If your computer doesn't crash, you aren't doing enough damage
Idk about that soundtrack part. Xenoblade 100% has a better soundtrack, but it's not like RoR has a bad soundtrack, just not not the best of all time.
I agree
me having that one moment where the simulacrum didnt let me finish the wave
I may or may not have spent two years getting 400 hours in this game…
Man, I love this game
Personally I've noticed my deaths have often been because of a lack of vigilance
"you offered to the shrine but gain nothing" fun fact! My friend got the achievement for getting nothing 3 times in a row whilst I had to actively work for several days to try as many shrines as I could to finally get that achievement. I guess I had to make up for my good luck after, because now I rarely get imposter in among us
one time my friend offered to the shrine 4 times and got nothing all 4 times 💀💀💀💀
I don't know how I was still alive without knowing about this masterpiece
thank you man for mention this game multiple times
literally the only improvements to base risk of rain 2 i can think of is
1: show a stats window
2: show item stats and exactly what they do during a run
thats literally it, the art design and level creation is amazing, the music is blessed and oh, dont get me started on how well written item description and lore pieces are, combined with the gameplay loop with TONS of unlockable: characters, items, different modifiers, unique rng "things" each run. i legit believe the only things that can be improved are the information shown to us mid-game
And now we have an idea of what Gearbox is doing with RoR; a mobile gacha and another dlc to 2..
Im all for another dlc, but fuck the mobile gacha (it is another platform that RoR will be on tho)
also kinda exited for RoR returns (MADE by hoopoo), never got to play the original so I'll probably pick this up
i love how much the gearbox complaint has aged, the only dislikeable thing to coe out from gearbox is hostile worlds, which is in itelf an entire new ror game, despite its genre. with the sotv release on console being throughly made, to make it perfect and better, with the new dlc coming to risk of rain 2 and the claim of eentertaining the community for 5-10 years
