I've got one made in Korea in 1988. It has the Epiphone by Gibson headstock. The pick ups were not great, so I had Duncan jazz series pick ups installed, with coil splitting and out of phase switching. It sounds great now, can get everything from full on jazz guitar to almost a Telecaster sound. My constant go to guitar.
The Sherry is a guitar that really benefits from a bridge upgrade. It sounds pretty good in standard from but a little boxy with only so-so sustain. A Tonepros bridge really made mine breathe and it became this chiming, sustaining thing. By the end I put high end wiring and better pickups in mine too but bridge upgrade alone made it sound like a higher end guitar.
4mm vs 9/64'' allen wrench for epiphone truss rod: thank you for the useful suggestion you are simply the best IMHO please keep on making videos Francesco
I had to comment on the flatwound comments. First, as a jazz player I use primarily Thomastik flatwounds and I use them even on solid bodies such as my Fender 60th Anniversary tele. They provide a darker tone (without being mud); less noise when sliding are going from one note to another; last a lot longer than round wounds and contrary to popular belief will not ruin your truss rod if the guitar is properly set up. If you hate flatwounds then you are hating on some great legendary past and current jazz guitarist. Round wounds are great strings and serve a person and so are flatwounds.
I prefer flatwounds for the very reason you stated. I am just not all the confident in installing them on my Epiphone Casino, even though it begs for them. I may try and install a light gage round wound string set though. I found several that are 9's and 10's, not 11's or 12's.
You're probably not old enough to remember that back in the early 60's all we had was flat wound strings. We liked them just fine. Of course thats all we had so we didn't have much of a choice. Then I played a Hagstrom electric 12 string Viking. I really liked that guitar but I couldn't afford a Ric which is what I really wanted. Man I miss those days. They were the best ever.
I have an Epi identical to this one. Its one of my favorite guitars. I grew up in the 60's when all we had was round wound strings. Then they were like 3 bucks a set which was a lot of money back then. I'm getting ready to buy another Epi Sheraton 2 Pro in Wine Red. I don't think you can beat Epi's for the money. I've never had a problem with any of the ones I have.
I like the "Eraser" trick! I used to go to the pharmacy and buy Kotex Maxi Pads and cut them into 2 inch strips to keep it snug. When my customers asked why I did that I told them " It's because a guitar needs Periodic Maintenance Once A Month"-- Just Joking!!!---Duke
Radio Shack has some great cleaner and lubricant for pots and switches. I use it on my Goldwing switches as well to clean and lubricate them. Just don't get it on the finish extra careful is the procedure when using it.
Fender Fan Dave has lots of videos on setting up guitars if he was to do a detailed set up on every guitar he would have no time. If you look at his other videos he shows full setups on gibson style semi hollows full hollows and solid bodies also fender style guitars and basses.
Epiphone makes a couple of good models....the Sheraton and the Casino...are badass guitars, when set up properly.....also some of their higher end SGs are almost as good as the Gibson counterparts......
Did they make different versions of the Sheraton? I had one that didn't have Gibson on the truss rod cover and had a thinner body (at least that one looks thicker).
I put flats on my Sheraton for the 1st year I had it, thinking they lent it a more jazzy sound. Not bad, but I didn't use it much so I switched to round wounds. I like the Sheraton a lot. It plays great, sounds great, too. I would never pay for an ES 335. If you're paying by the pound, you truly do get your money's worth with the Sheraton.
I have had a few Epiphones and have always been highly critical of the pickups which seemed flat and lifeless to me. Until now that is.Their new Probuckers are a huge improvement.Still don't like their other newish ones though--Alnico Classic PRO I think they are called.
I have an Epiphone dot 2015. When I play a chord and move the guitar back and forth I notice that it goes out of tune temporary, kind of vibrato sound. In my others guitars it does not happen, it seems that the neck on them are harder and more stable than the Epiphone. Any tip? I appreciate any help.
Thats a B.S. Parker in the beginning of the video by the way..either that or a lemon. My parker deluxe could be left out in the snow for a week and not even need to be tuned again because the neck is extremely tough. just keep in mind if you are looking at Parkers that none of the cheap models came out until Ken Parker sold the factory. Buy used before the buyout!!! They used to be custom shop quality. I just wish the new ones didn't even have his name on the headstock. Its a shame.
I just bought a Sheraton II Pro, also the wine red. Beautiful guitar. I plan to put the Gibson Vintage Reissue Strings on it, the 10-46. I've already put Grover Locking Tuners on it.
Not only do flat wounds have the most tension, they sound like dull, old, strings. I have never seen the point of them. Jazz players can just use rounds and roll the tone know back.
i have a guild starfire 4..it was made by fender, after they bought out guild...(no longer made)...like it better than gibson es335...for half the price...would rather have the guild than, epiphone even if it does cost a little more...(thats if you can find one)
***** You've probably not seen one of these, but what do you think of the Squier Vintage modified 70's Stratocaster? I love mine, it's better than my Epi Special II at least.
I own an Epiphone Dot, the lower end of the Epiphone ES-335 copies. Love it, however, you might have to change the pickups. Epiphone pickups suck (Probuckers are good however).
Chris Horton i have heard of some guys putting real gibson 335 pickups in the epiphones i have just been playing my gretsch 5120 lately but the feed back on that baby is both good and bad depending on what i am playing
Dave, no offense, you seem like you know the basics. But you dont know the first thing about strings, tone, etc...etc... Please provide empirical data when you make your comments about flat vs rounds. Almost all jazz players prefer flat wounds and are used on much more expensive guitars. For you to say they cause damage is ignorant. Also, your lack of knowledge about them amd what they are points out your inexperience as a guitar tech. I am a subscriber and enjoy your videos but this one just was begging for a Comment
Michael I think most Flat Wounds are High Tension and Dave is correct that it can warp the neck of a guitar that is not designed for them. Maybe not in every case, maybe not in every string gage and maybe not on every guitar. When Dave says high quality guitars I think he is referring to real hollow body jazz guitars, and not standard semi hollow body guitars like this.

I have flatwounds on my Sheraton II use her for jazz and sweet blues. Sounds and plays great!
Thanks Davey, great videos and your dry sense of humor although not unserstood by some plomkers is much appreciated in our household. Cheers.

nice peace sounds much brighter with the new strings
dude im addicted to watching your vids MUST GO TO SLEEP!!!!
haha sure looks like it. btw, love your vids. Watching people work on guitars is kinda soothing.

The flat wounds sound really good on that thing. It sounded like Chuck Berry
Definitely sounds better with the new strings but I was digging the flats
I really like your makeshift tuner cleaner tube, need to make one. Cleaner goes all over the place. Got a 2004 Sheraton II.,
Radio Shack has some great cleaner and lubricant for pots and switches. I use it on my Goldwing switches as well to clean and lubricate them. Just don't get it on the finish extra careful is the procedure when using it.
Sad, I was hoping to find a good video on setting up an Epiphone but found quite the opposite.
Fender Fan Dave has lots of videos on setting up guitars if he was to do a detailed set up on every guitar he would have no time. If you look at his other videos he shows full setups on gibson style semi hollows full hollows and solid bodies also fender style guitars and basses.
I'll do that and thank you.
@@mowageemowagee5947 So the reason for this vid was to waste time

Hey Dave, I'd like to ask, what did you use to clean the knobs/potentiometers?
Sick in bed watch your back catalog of vids Dave, thanks for all of them!!
I have had a few Epiphones and have always been highly critical of the pickups which seemed flat and lifeless to me. Until now that is.Their new Probuckers are a huge improvement.Still don't like their other newish ones though--Alnico Classic PRO I think they are called.
Older Sheraton with painted "E" on pick guard, larger bridge and Gibson truss rod cover.
On my Sheraton 2, the e on the pick guard fell off in a day
Yes, it's just stuck on there, everyone talks about that. First thing they say happens is the "E" falls off the pick guard.
You are so right about the Parker......give me a Tele any day!
Dave was that the Parker that had a crack in it in another video that you had to glue and clamp?

Older "Epiphone by Gibson" Sheraton, from before they started pasting the plastic epsilon on the pickguard.
I love flat wouds on semi acoustics. I'm puttin' flats on all my lap guitars as well
oh i just bought an sheraton ii too!! how can i clean it?? with some kind of product??
from argentina
The old Epi's were nice.
+Gerber Bernstein I got an epiphone sheraton II used from 2004, made in Korea. Plays better than the new Chinese made ones IMHO
I just bought a Sheraton II Pro, also the wine red. Beautiful guitar. I plan to put the Gibson Vintage Reissue Strings on it, the 10-46. I've already put Grover Locking Tuners on it.

De que año es esa Sheraton del video?, yo tengo una igual!
Davey, how would you tighten up a jack on a guitar like this?
it sounds10 times better than when you first played it!
where would i purchase that jacket thing you're wearing? :)
I often play around with my thing when I pull it out of the box.
If I remember correctly, the Sheraton Elitist is made in the USA by Gibson......
The ones I've seen were made in Japan, but with Gibson parts.
It didn't. Epiphone printed the epsilon on their pickguard for a period. This guitar was made during that period.
hmm, the E on the epiphone pickguard looks really weird.
Sheraton II? best value on the planet.
So what size allen wrench did you ultimately use?
Dave's World of Fun Stuff what size is the right one?
The Hippy-Dippy guitar tech. George Carlin is smiling down.

I put gibson pups in mine, sounds like a beast.
I have always thought that Epiphone headstock is the most beautiful thing ever.
@davey4557 ok have you very heard of a framus ROYAL archtop before
I wouldn't assume to replace with round wound strings as he may swear by what he uses for Jazz or somethng
you are hilarious, i like you, you're funny and knoledgable
