You just SAVED us!! With the temps outside in this cold snap of 3º F wind chill, I glanced at our Ecobee thermostat in our newly-built home (6 months) and saw it wasn't working. Having no clue how to fix it, I watched your very funny and quite informative video. After checking our breaker box--nothing was tripped--I checked the furnace. Sure enough, the switch had been hit accidentally this morning to OFF when we were moving a large box out of the utility room. And yes, I was about to call the furnace guy on this New Years holiday weekend to have him come out and charge us gazillions. But no need!! I hit the switch (which we will now mark as to which setting is On and which is Off), and viola: Thermostat is back on and working perfectly! You're my hero. Happy New Year, and keep making great videos to save us poor saps from ourselves when it comes to home fixing!
@@DIYSmartHomeGuy1 I see. Are you using a humidifier on the furnace as well? The Ecobee can handle humidity too, really well actually. I used to have our furnace humidifier connected to an Ecobee 3 when I still lived where we needed to add humidity during the Winter. It kept the windows from getting wet and kept the house humidity under control better than the regular humidistat did, because the remote sensors also measure humidity.
Thanks so much for your video! My husband was able to fix our heater at 11pm in 20 degree weather. Because of you we didn’t freeze to death😃

That's so great to hear! That switch can be a doozy
Glad you were able to get it back up and running
Touching R and C with a jumper wire, like you demonstrated at 3:07 is a good way to blow your fuse also. !!
Thanks--that was very helpful. I'll try those tips. Now, can I vent? I HATE MY ECOBEE!
Really? Why?
This just happened to me in November. Thank god it wasn’t as cold as it is right now!!
Pete, what is the control mounted below your Ecobee? Is that the old thermostat?
Hey Doug! That is the humidistat for the air exchanger. But leaving the old thermostat on the wall would definitely be on brand for me.
