@@21toadian the drain line was clogged. I had to flush from inside and outside using a hose with a nozzle attached and bleach to loosen the clog. Just be careful inside around the electrical.
Sir... I sincerely thank you! It's a cold Sunday morning in December. We woke up to no heat and a blank thermostat. Your video guided me to a simple solution: a pair of double A batteries. Thank you again!!!
Thank you! The problem was the float switch. I opened it to pour in some ac build up remover. Was getting super frustrated and tried wiggling around and reinserting the tab for it and it worked.
Thank you!!! As soon as you mentioned float switch, I ran up to check my attic. Heard one unit running and the second one silent. Looked down and saw the pan was full. Liked and subscribed!
Thank you, you just saved me and my family $$$, ended up being a little moisture in our drain line causing the switch to show water... drained it and we are good to go!!! Again, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Thank you, son, for this video. My thermostat is brand new (less than a week installed), and went blank. I know it is hard-wired, but I put batteries in it and it came back on, so at least for tonight it is working. I have a technician coming in the morning.
Thank you so much. My thermostat was blank and because of this video, I went outside and lowered the drain hose ( I had moved it because it was attracting ants.) Within 5 minutes the thermostat came alive!
My daughter just bought a house. The Carrier unit, when heat is on... will start making a random clicking noise. We noticed when it started clicking, the thermostat is blank. It's an old school thermostat. We have to flip it to off then back on to get the thermostat to wake up. Not sure what is going on with it.
Our thermostat honeywell lyric is blank. When I changed the battery it displays a message says no power is coming check the circuit breaker. I checked the circuit breaker doesn't see any one tripped. Can you help us to see how we can fix this problem.
I got up for work, and my house was super hot like 85 with thermostat set at 73. So I checked, and my thermostat is blank and replaced the batteries and still blank, but the furnace was still going and blowing hot air... probably way hotter than it's ever blowed. So what would cause this as once I got to the basement the furnace stopped blowing
Thank you man. Leaned senser on roof all started but pump. There is TH4B - Luxaire unit have lead on the side, and black sensor underneath. I moved that sensor before I go on the roof, when cleaned come back, and put lid back, reset unit, and nothing. Pump won't start
Thank you for the video. My central air unit/furnace shut down like it should because my p-trap was completely clogged. I replaced the p-trap with an E-Z trap and the AC has been working great. The water is supposed to drain to the outside of the house, but I don't see any water coming out. I heard that there should be about 1 gallon of water draining every two days. I live in a fairly new single level house. There's no water leaking around the central air unit/furnace or in the rooms beside the furnace closet. Where's the water draining? Should I be concerned? Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My buddy called me this afternoon (only 95 today) to tell me that his thermostat screen was blank. Thanks to your video I was able to suggest that he check his Float Switch. Sure enough, all he had to do was give it a twist and his system is back online. His house was only up to 81 .... but it wouldn't have been a comfortable night's sleep.
I replaced the batteries in the thermostat in a fifth wheel im staying in but it's still blank. Heating works. Ac works (even auto) but it just shows blank.
My heat was running fine a couple hours later my thermostat went blank. Ive never had batteries in my thermostat, so i put batteries in and the display of the thermostat came on put my heat or AC still would not kick on?? What is my issue???
I just got a new ac unit outside in May a Lennox 15.2 seer 3 ton unit for a 1492 square ft home for $4000. I opted not to get the whole HVAC system done, so nothing done in the attic. My home was built in 2010, outside unit was replaced due to dead compressor. I noticed today on thermostat ( 2 months later) that screen was blank. I put batteries in it for the first time ever because I never had this problem. That still didn't work. My ac company now tells me it can be the float switch, I got a feeling their about to charge more thousands. Can this issue be because of faulty installation. What should I check for and asked them before they act like installer couldn't possibly did anything wrong. 11 years in my home and I've never had this problem.
If your thermostat goes blank 95% of the time your safety switch has been activated because your drain pan is getting clogged. Check your safety switch first if it’s clogged than your best bet is to get a shop vac and suck the drain line from the outside by your condenser unit while pouring hot water down your drain line from the inside unit to clear out any possible gunk
I have a Honeywell WiFi smart thermostat. Last night it kept shutting down and going dark every 15 minutes or so and then starting back up. Anyone else have that problem? I believe it to a model RTH9585WH.
I have a serious question that no tech seems to be able to answer. What causes the compressor to make a rough sound when it kicks on? It seemed to stop at one point when it was recharged after i had a leak. But then it starting making that loud sound on start up again in just a few days. I live in FL and findging a good, honest tech that doesnt rip you off is hard.
Recharging refrigerant has done nothing unless the leak was repaired. That electric motor in that compressor needs vapor refrigerant to cool those windings. The mechanical portion in that compressor needs the oil for lubrication of the moving/mechanical parts, no matter what type of compressor. When you have a leak & run low on gas, the compressor motor windings are not being cooled; along with losing refrigerant due to a leak, you are also losing oil that is needed for lubrication.
I changed my thermostat it still wouldn't work. Your 1st issue was the reason it was blank so cleaned it up got it on, but not it only works on fan auto will only last 5 minutes then the AC shuts off and wont go back on.
I have a Bryant evolution deluxe user interface which we can not reset any of the programs our model is systxbbuid01-c is it okay to replace with systxbbuid01-d my series is 19 and the replacement one in series 24 hoping its because of the newer models can not find the exact one I have , but their replacements look identical thank you for your help.
it's the battery connection - don't press them it too much, don't attach to the wall to hard....that's what I learned, after running around checking drain plugs, fuses, re-re-replacing batteries - it'd light up and show stats but then disappear...I'd get the screen to reappear and v.e.r.y. gently put it back on the wall.............. yes.
never mind. duh. but while I'm here again - my stat wasn't bad, but the battery connections were soooo sensitive. Batteries had to be set just so, and the stat just so on the wall.....
Mine goes blank in the spring and summer, and less often in the winter. When it does, the outside unit shuts off and the temp in the house climbs without me being aware. I have to unplug and replug the thermostat head unit, go in the garage and throw the heat breaker along with the a/c breaker, wait several minutes turn the breakers back on, and 5 minutes or so later the outside unit turns on and the house cools down (or heats up in the winter). I rent, and this house is an overpriced piece of junk. Its more trouble than its worth to call the property management company so I just grin and bear it.
The float switch was exactly what caused our system to kick off. Thank you for mentioning it first!
Did you have to get a new one or drain the condensate pan

Thank you. Thermostat was blank and when I went to replace the filter I tripped one of the sensors. You saved me a call.
You saved my familys life, thank you so much.
Well done, concise video. Much appreciated. I rarely need anything on HVAC, but subscribed out of gratitude. Thanks.
Thank you!
You are the man! Tech installed the fitting for the t valve upside down. Pan empty but sensor full after 4 years of condensation. You saved me!

My thermostat goes blank most of the time, and comes back on occasionally. Any ideas on what to do?? Thanks
I replaced the batteries, same deal.
Mine is blank today? At least we’re not it needing heat in late summer. Did you end up fixing your issue?
Good stuff Brudda. I love listening to true professionals
Thanks pal

Same thing happened to me too I'm wondering the same
Why not TELL US what to do about a faulty float switch???
Change it out or clean it.
Take out your float switch and flip it upside down. If the unit turns off when the float falls your switch isn’t bad. Your drain might be clogged
Thank you!

@earlkarp4142 any solution? Same issues

Adding gas without finding the leak is just buying time. That compressor is taking a beating.
Running a compressor with a leaker, especially w/no LPCO (Low Pressure Cut Out) means the compressor is having a rough go.
Good luck.
Amp draw numbers will tell you the health of the compressor
In my case the Safe-T switch was the culprit. Thank you!

Water drain line in attic froze ... water tank filled ... turned off Thermostat. Drained tank ... all OK. Thanx!
Will a broken prong be a reason why my thermostat is blank
Yes

I have power to my thermostat and new batteries. Fan switch works, but no temp display or light. No ac.
Found out the problem? I have the same problem
Mine said I needed to change the batteries on it. I put brand new batteries in it and then the screen went blank, but lights up....?

Thanks for the video. 3am and i found the drains are just clogged. Good job man.
