Please let this video help you make an informative decision when buying an S3, don't be afraid and let others scare you with the running costs, as they ain't that bad, if you don't want them to be! This car is a great all rounder.
Had my s3 8V since February 2021, only started driving it in efficiency mode recently and using the adaptive cruise control to avoid the temptation to floor it and remain sensible. I was averaging 23mpg before now I’m getting around 37mpg, I’m shocked at how efficient it is when you just sit back and take it easy.
It is great. I'd encourage more people to just try things out for themselves in the first instance. The S3 is a great, great all rounder! Glad you're enjoying it.
Picked my 2018 s3 sportback up last week, a lot better on fuel that I was expecting. Like you say if you floor it everywhere you can’t expect much but just driving normal easily sits mid - high 30s
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hmm...firstly, I'd say test drive both. Secondly, whatever you decide, you won't be making a mistake. I'm making a video soon on why the S3 is the best hot hatch to buy! The Audi is better for re sale, easy to maintain, and the inside is defo more premium. However with the R you do get front parking senors and little things like that as standard. But then again, on the S3 you get leathers. I'd say go with the S3, but that's because I own one haha.
Thank you for this video. I felt like most other S3 fuel consumption videos were bollocks, like 20mpg, really? What kinda hooning about must that be. Your numbers seem waaay more accurate. At the end of the day it's a 2 liter engine right with a proper comfort mode that can be fuel efficient if you want it to be right? Also: looking to buy a second hand facelift s3 myself, what 'd you reckon: financing or buy it straight off the bat? What did you do? Cheers mate!
Ha, thanks mate, I really appreciate that. It’s true, so many people try to scare you and it’s really unfortunate as they are great cars. I love mine. I mean, it goes without saying, if you smash the throttle in most cars, your MPG would be sick. Bang on, when in individual mode or efficiency, it’s great on fuel. I bought mine second hand, but the process wasn’t the best. Look at my other video “why I bought my S3” I talk about my monthly costs, how much it cost me. This car I got lucky, 9k miles 25k cost, and it’s fully loaded tbh. But I paid monthly, I think it’s financially intelligent to not put all of your eggs in one basket. Analogy for money in a car. Hope that helps!
@@S3Ranj Ah, yes I stumbled upon your channel just now, so I will definietly check that video out and now that I'm subbed i'll be looking forward to more of your s3 content! Cheers for the solid reply mate!
Hi man, nice video and very well presented. Not sure if you still have the car but In terms of fuel consumption what is your Rev counter sitting at when cruising at 70mph on the motorway. I have a different turbo charged petrol car at the minute and it sits at 2.2k when cruising at 70. Thanks in advance.
Bro i have an a3 quattro diesel 2.0 184hp 8v model, believe me the fuel effeciency between my a3 and s3 is really not that much higher so im going with an s3 this year or the next one
When the prices were quite high a few months ago, I did notice the difference. But, more recently I've noticed the prices have come down. Whilst it's not the same as pre covid, there not bad. 10ltr of 99 momentum will get me around 100 miles on average.
Thx for the informative video! I'm currently doubting my ass off wether to buy an S3 2017 Manual gearbox.. as I love shifting myself and prefer this driving experience.. But.. would you also be able to get the car running around 35mpg.. I drive like 25.000km a year.. Of which about 75% highways and little city.. I avoid the city like hell! :) Would be great to hear your input! Grtz for Belgium.
Let me ad.. honestly, if it would consume less then 30mpg all of the time even with sensible driving and not flooring much/often.. Then due to the 25k a year it might be to expensive to drive. How are maintenance costs?
@@yannickvolckaert9474 So, I'll try to reply to both comments in one. Maintenance costs are not that bad at all. Everyone worries about MPG, and you are right, in the city, this car isn't great, but you shouldn't expect it to be either. On the motorway, or highway, it is excellent. I tend to average around 40MPG minimum on the highway. I would get one, pref DSG.
@@S3Ranj Thanks for the reply! much appreciated! I'll will have a look and compare with the DSG.. I expect in eco-mode the DSG might be neccesary to get the high'ish 55+mpg you are mentioning. Cheers, When I buy, I'll let you know ;-)
@@chimpei3965 Not this one.. This was a manual transmission I was looking at.. I'm going to wait till next year and look for a S-Tronic DSG instead of the manual.. as fuel consumption should be a little better with the DSG.. so.. hopefully soon in 2022 :D
I do, but when it's safe. And I'm not willing to drive like a knob, and get myself hurt. The S3 is much more than just a fast car. For me, it's perfect. If you owned an S3, you'll know that you need to be careful planting it, as the police are just waiting for you.

Excellent video mate, I’m going to be purchasing a S3 Saloon (66 plate) so these videos really help🤩
Hey bud! Glad I helped. Stay tuned for the full build. If you have any questions, drop me a line on Instagram. Happy to help!
Thanks for this video, im legit making the same jump this week from a 1.4 tsi seat to a s3 👍🏼
Smashed it mate! All the best with it, and enjoy!
It’s amazing how efficient these 4 pots can be when you’re sensible 👌
100% TRUE.
Thanks for the vid bro im stuck on what to get between the audi s3 or golf r 😫 im deffo leaning more towards the audi it seems more premium

Test drive both. I did and the R is deffo the more involved driver. The S3 just feels more floaty and the steerings not as good.
Really helpful video! 👌🏽
Thanks bro! 👊🏽👊🏽

Good question mate. Hmmm... I'm not sure. I think around 2k (big guess)
Recently bought a 2022 s3, what are the maintenance costs, like replacement parts, tyres services? Compared to an A3?
@@BrianCush tyres, no difference. Minor services, no difference. Major service, can’t imagine there being a difference. Replacement parts, depends.
What's the year of the model? You're convincing me even more to get an A3 lol
A3 or S3? Either way, they are both great. Mine is a late 67. So, FL 8V

Well I hope this video was useful!

12mpg the first day i got it now im on 30 a few days lol

But what’s the point in owning S3 if you don’t plant your foot often, not worth it
