I haven't tried either of these but I do have the Thrustmaster TPR pedals which are as close to a real life aircraft as you can get. Easy damper mod if you want it. Pricey but worth it.

I've heard many people talk about them and love them. I've never tried them with a damper mod though. Biggest difference is the linear throw. There's no arc which is good.

Like you it’s something about that damper that slightly takes away from the experience. It’s sticks a bit too much making it twitchy. I usually play the Apache in DCS and having smooth inputs for that particular module is an absolute necessity. Something I feel that I have to fight the pedals constantly with, even with finely tuned user curves. I don’t have any other pedals to compare, but your description of the Virpil pedals’ smoothness is awfully tempting, if only they had stock. Are the damper struts the same dimensions between the two? If so have you thought about switching the Virpil onto the Winwing? I’m going to see if I can source some of my own and see if that makes a difference, or maybe use some silicon based grease to see if that makes a difference.

@@g-locmedia I was also thinking it could just be the individual damper. For instance, on the racing side the Fanatec V3 damper kit is kind of hit or miss. Some say they are perfectly smooth and some have issues with sticking and leaking. Is the stickiness only there when it's maxed out? Does it go away when you turn it down? Do they use the same mounting? Maybe you could swap the dampers and see if it's an issue with the damper itself, or the pedal design. They arrived yesterday with the new FliteSim CLS-60 FFB yoke which is very cool and we’d all love to see your take on it. On the pedal stickiness, there are two washers either side which should stop any binding (but I didn’t over tighten following your advice from before).
I also didn’t notice the stickiness with the damper especially with the spring off. With the spring on there is a slight free play area where the spring is not in tension, this could be the odd feeling you’re getting - or you could have a faulty damper. Maybe ask for a replacement.

I went with Winwing as unfortunately for Australian customers, Virpil doesn’t make economic sense enough to justify the hundreds of dollars extra customs tariffs for the supposedly better dampner. We’ve heard horror stories of Aussie customers ordering a Virpil product and after thinking they don’t owe a cent more after paying for the product and shipping, being told by Australian Border Force that they now owe a couple of hundred bucks more to release the product to them. The reason: Quite Simple, Virpil is based in Belarus and Belarus are allied with Russia.

most of virpil's production is now in their new EU headquarters. Check their social posts, they show a lot of interesting stuff about their new factory. I made a Virpil order recently including the Ace pedals and it's all made in the EU, no tarrifs.

I did Virpil, looking back I'm glad; "made in China" is not a label I want on my high end sim gear.

I reckon the "Staright Outta China" flight sim products are getting much better. With companies like MOZA joining the ranks it going to be an interesting few years.

@@g-locmedia I saw that premature review drop of the force feedback stick. (Moza still has reviews embargoed).
That looks interesting. A high end force feedback stick that isn't "a guy will build you one for $850". I understand that will make a big difference in my helo and warbird flight, especially baby Huey.
The other thing that got me really liking Virpil was their responsiveness to the people who buy their gear. V1 of Virpil's HOTAS didn't have a Slew stick on the throttle. People brought it to them, v2 of Virpil's throttle has a slew. People brought up the AFB tabs, V3 has AFB tabs.
It seems silly that actually listening to your customers is a remarkable thing for a vendor to do these days, but Virpil does it. So I'm happy I bought in to Virpil.

Well, "Made in Russia/Belarus" also isn't the best advertisement these days
I'm having a field day in logistics, when the sanctions were imposed on those 2 concerning Ukraine
All of a sudden, there were no more Russian/Belarusian Flight gear manufacturers anywhere, but suddenly a lot of Lithuanian offices opened up
