Just bought a resto a few months ago, 1995 with the 2.5 and Manual too. It’s incredible, my first manual car and I’m hooked. Funnily enough I got my first ever speeding ticket with it the other day. How ironic, probably the slowest car I’ll ever own.
Have you tried changing the transmission oil? And also check the oil of the transfer case most of the time they are separated of the main transmission and you change the oil separately
Thanks for these responses as they helped me in troubleshooting mine. I'm new to 4x4, not manuals in general, & using 4x4 in automatic transmission & for my needs, on ice snow & mudding, all new to me but jeep 94 & no user manuals exist online or in jeep.
@@jayloco7181 When you go around a corner, the four wheels of your vehicle each follow a different path. In order to do this, the wheels must turn at different speeds. Differentials allow the left and right wheels of an axle to turn independently. However, in a part-time 4WD vehicle, the front and rear axles receive the same rotational input when in 4WD and damage can occur if the wheels are unable to slip. You should only use part-time 4WD on slippery or loose surfaces. Note that AWD (full-time 4WD) vehicles DO allow the wheels to move independently. wouldnt own a jeep without a manual transmission, i grew shifting an old 70's chevy truck with a 3 on the tree( column shift for you younger people) when i was 6 yrs old and everything after that was a 4 or 5 speed and now at 58yrs old for 37 yrs I've shifted a 10 speed eaton/fuller turned eaton transmission..once you get that that manual transmition in ya blood and automatic just seems boring and lazy, plus down shifting helps save on ya brakes😁
So yours doesn't need brake on to shift? My 94 cherokee does, so I never tried it with no brake. Thanks for an idea of how to try & very important part on how to disengage as well, no one mentions that anywhere! Thank you.
@@zachsteele6964 They're not trash. They are good. But Jeeps that are automatic are better because you can just put it in D for drive and just go. No need to put in the gears yourself with the clutch and everything. That's why automatic are better.
@@zachsteele6964 as a matter of fact I do. My uncle used to own a 1994 Jeep Wrangler 3-speed automatic. It was a four-wheel drive six-cylinder. And my dad owned a 1995 Jeep Wrangler 5-speed manual. Now the 5-speed manual transmission is good because the transmission will never go out but in my personal opinion as to prefer the automatic because it's just a lot more easier when you're going up the mountains with a Jeep Wrangler. If you're taking a 1995 Jeep Wrangler that is a 5-speed manual it's just a pain in the ass to keep shifting all the gears all the time whereas the automatic you can just put it in D and then put in 4-wheel drive and then you just go. So yes I know quite a bit about Jeeps. I also own a 1997 Jeep Cherokee. And that bad boy is automatic. I take care of it all the time.
No don't ever do it moving. This is a terrible description for new jeepers! Do it at a stop always put it in natural then try and back up 5 ft after you lock it in.
I don't see many of those generation Jeep Wranglers with the square shaped headlamps on the roads anymore like I use to back in the day.

Question, do you have to do it barefoot?
No, but it helps! California is burning this week, so it is too hot to wear shoes.
Lmao
Who doesn't like to drive bate foot? Guess it's the old Floridian in me, lol.
A little late here but unironically, I feel super in tune with any car when I happen to drive barefoot. The feedback hits different lol

I have a 93 automatic....havent used 4 wheel drivw in 4 years... i can not get it to engage in 4 wheel at all.....what do i do now?

Check the vacuum actuator

It’s either your vacuum lines to your differential or the actuator switch
Ahhh that's what I did wrong!!! Can you get out of 4low without moving? Well I now know i can but it wasn't that smooth!!!
You have to shift it very hard, harder than you think as the linkages get rusted up underneath. But yes must be moving to get it into 4x4.
Do you HAVE to be moving for 4L?
Yes, tried & it works if I'm moving only! Thanks.
I have a 95 and the 4x4 gear selector comes off the linkage what part do I need or mod can I do to fix this issue
I'm not sure but it does rust up, so anything you can do to clean & protect them?
Hey can anyone tell me what the vac line of for and how to use jt
That vac line is to lock your front wheels. Without it in gaged you will only have one wheel in the front engaged.
1:14 Turning on dry pavement while in 4WD is a bad idea.
i’m dumb so can u explain why it’s bad

Does this work for the manual transmissions as well? I assume you have to throw it into neutral.
Yes. It should be similar. Can you put it in neutral, and probably hold the clutch down as well.
In manual u can do it in gear 4h while driving no issues

I think they still actually make a jeep with a manual transmission. A lot of cars don’t have that option anymore.
put them dogs on a leash

not manual trans
