  • This weeks wargaming terrain building tutorial is some very easy to build tank traps for your tabletop games. These tank traps can be built in a few different ways depending on your needs, but this video takes you through one of the easier ways I found for the construction of these rather ruined looking, salvaged defenses.
    You only need some small stirrers or mini paddlepop sticks, some matches, and some glue. In the video I use PVA glue for the entire process, and I did prefer this for the first glue up stage, I would suggest using hot glue for the last glue step, I do mention this in the video as well.

    Tutorial on I beam tank traps was easy after thinking of using plastic styrene beams. Cost versus stir sticks & wooden match sticks was genius. Paint and done

    Nice, back when I was playing WH40k I always wondered how to build them properly!

      Thanks, they're surprisingly easy. Perfect for when more rocks and trees just won't do.

      RFDHobby they are real easy! And the wood looks quite good as weathered steel

      My paint job on these lets them down a bit, I need to put more effort in, and practice more. It wouldn't be hard to improve on these that I've done. Look forward to seeing the paint go on the cathedral you're working on too.

    I only recently found your channel, but I've loved everything I've seen so far! I do mostly scratchbuilding, so these tutorials contain a lot of good tips.

    Awesome stuff. I think this will be my first DIY from scratch build. Seems pretty simple to put together.

      Good call, these are a fun little build, and look cool with your minis even if you don't use them for gaming. Good luck with your builds mate.

    Very nice and simple tutorial. I was going to cut up sprue for this. I might still see how that goes but this is great too. Thanks

      No problem at all. I'm glad you like it. I'm sure there's a few ways to make these up, good luck with the sprue mate.

      RFDHobby I just watched your sandbag and barricade tuts too. Very good buddy. I’m giving all three techniques a go. I want to create a bog/swamp for 40K with gnarled trees. Any ideas?

      @@xommul79 Thanks mate. I recently did a video regarding trees which might help. I did one using wire that when coated (I used some liquid latex, but I think you could use hot glue or some other coating), might look pretty good. I have seen trees/logs created using something as simple as Aluminium foil as well, which might be worth looking at if you don't have access to the other materials. Feel free to jump into the Discord server and share the pics, or for a chat anytime, the link should be in the descriptions from my more recent videos.

    I am so glad I found your channel! Early in the video you say that you were limited to 5cm beams because that is the length of the matchsticks. Could you take one of the long stir sticks (or paddle pop ( btw I live the term 'paddle pop' vs 'popsicle') run a bead of glue down the center, and then place a series of match sticks end-to-end? Then glue the second stick on top, and when everything is dry you could use a thin bladed saw to saw your beams to the legnths you need.

      @RFDHobby  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you. Yeah, you're absolutely right, laying the matchsticks along the stirrer would work to make longer beams. I think I'll try this down the track in another build. Thanks again for your comment mate!

    If you end up making more in the future... try using clothespins as clamps to hold while the glue dries.
