Miniature Rubble Piles Scatter Terrain for Wargaming and Tabletop Games

- This weeks wargaming terrain tutorial we focus on making some more scatter terrain to place around our recent ruined buildings for the tabletop. This build uses mostly leftovers from previous builds, and is made up predominantly from foamboard scraps and some aluminum foil as the base to build on. In the video you'll see how to build in extra details to make these unique in there own way using more simple to find materials and bits and pieces. This terrain is perfect for moving around and placing as standalone cover, or items to enhance your current wargaming terrain pieces. You can certainly make these specific to your terrain setting, but what you will see here in this video will be perfect for post apocalyptic, sci-fi or modern settings. I hope you enjoy this tutorial, and check out some of my other videos on the channel, remember to subscribe to keep up to date on new tutorials...

Brilliant idea to use foil this way!
The ones that sit against walls would be great as impromptu obstructions for doorways. The same piece of building or ruin terrain can have its paths modified by strategically placing the rubble piles over doors or holes. Excellent for varying a skirmish game board.
Thank you for the comment mate. Glad you like them.
I love how cheaply you made these, turned out great mate.
Thanks Nate. Glad you enjoyed it mate.
Hello I am a French guy so it's not easy to say exactly what I want but I want you to know I really really really like what you do. I want to try every things.
Please continue like this you got one more fan 👏👍
Awesome, thank you! No problem with the language barrier mate :) , I've had to google translate a few different comments in the past so if you can't find the words, we can work around it. Thank you so much for the kind words too, I'm really glad you enjoy the videos. I have some more on the way now that my health is starting to improve again. Take care and all the best man!
Enjoying your tips on terrain rubble. Scraps should never be tossed for such usage
These are great! I have been meaning to make some for a while. Tinfoil as a base and the corner piece are great ideas
Thanks Eric, yeah they turned out great, and the tin foil makes it nice and easy to put together a few of these at once really quickly. Really appreciate your comment. Cheers.
You can finally use all the aluminum foils you murdered for the pipe inside :))
@@laughingmimictavern5698 I've seen Eric doing this lately and I'm just thinking, 'that's so much rubble right there'. ☺
Yet another great tutorial for more grounded skirmish/war gaming settings.
I am going to use this a lot on my next build. Good stuff. Thanks, RFDH.
Thanks for watching and commenting Reddogterrain! I'll look for it on your channel mate.
@@RFDHobby The video actually comes out today. Thanks.
Nice one!
Thanks so much for watching, and for your comment Alex, it's much appreciated.
Great job I like the flat right angle/corner piece for going alongside buildings. Would never have thought of that. Nice one
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Great job mate, so glad I found this channel. I mostly play DnD but I picked up a box of Indomitus and this is all super helpful to get a table full of cheap easy grimdark!
Fantastic mate. Grimdark is a fun setting to build for. I'll be building some more fantasy related terrain in the future, but you should check out the Devs & Dice channel for now, he's been doing lots of mini painting, but has just started terrain, and it looks awesome. Thanks for the comment.
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing this.
No worries at all John, my pleasure. I'm glad you liked it, it was a really fun and effective little build this one. Cheers.
Awesome Build! I am really enjoying these crafts.
Thanks very much. I'm glad you liked it!
Great video! My big bag of scrap foam just became a gold mine for scatter terrain.
Thanks Tai! I hear you, although I think I could almost make a 1:1 scale pile of rubble with all the stuff I've horded after all these builds so far. :)
Nice! Those look great and look easy to make.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting man. Looking forward to your next video.
absolutely amazing, love your idea buddy, thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed it.
Simple but oh so functional and nice! Good job as always mate! :)
Thanks Leif.
Absolutely outstanding brother. Lovely tutorial.
oh thanks so much man. Really appreciate you watching and commenting! I always feel a bit better when I eventually use some of the scraps I seem to horde after every build. So this one felt pretty good haha
Love this man Scatter Rubble you always have the best terrain lol
Thanks Ryan. Glad you like it mate. Really appreciate your comment, and can't wait to see what you have coming on your channel.
@@RFDHobby always love your stuff and I have a cool surprise coming with a collaboration =P
Wow such a good video! Ive been meaning to make some rubble terrain
Thank you very much, good luck with the build!
No foil around, but I guess some scrap foam will do the trick. Got plenty of that!
It feels good to use up some scrap foam too. I keep way too much shit around here haha
Nice! I was thinking about doing something similar with the LED smoke clouds everyone does. Have a short rubble pile with one flat side meant to go up against the wall and a cloud of cotton smoke lit up with a tea light. I was thinking that could be a way to indicate a building or section of building had been destroyed during the course of the game and could no longer be occupied.
oh man, that sounds awesome, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to incorporate into something like this build. I've used the tea light candles in the past and they're such a great and simple way to add lighting. Let me know how you go if you do decide to build that. Thanks for watching and for the comment mate.
Great jjob, look really cool.
How about doing some explosión carters with this technic?
Thank you. Great idea with the craters, I'll have a play around and see what can come up with. Cheers
Any reason not to add some sand after the big bricks?
Not at all, I could see that adding some finer detail to the pile for sure. Great idea! Thanks for the comment mate.
What foam are you using for the rubble bits?
This is just foamboard bits, I usually keep a small container of small off cuts that I can just rip apart for times like this. You could use xps as well I think. Cheers.
@@RFDHobby Right, I meant was there a specific brand of foam sheet.
@@angrybadgerminis3077 oh sorry haha, I just grab what I can get my hands on, takes a bit to clean the paper off, but it's worth it in the end. In Australia, I get mine from either Officeworks or Spotlight, both different brands. I haven't found too much variation between foamboard brands, so any should be fine.
You a kiwi mate?
Sorry Chris, no chilly bins around here. Only Eskys. I'm in Queensland, Australia. How are things in NZ mate?
Why don’t you use real stones instead of ripped up foam board?
There's a couple of reasons I chose to do it this way. I do have heaps of this scrap foam laying around and it feels good to use as much of my purchased materials as possible, but this approach also keeps these terrain pieces easy to handle. They're not too heavy and if they come into contact with my mini's or other terrain (whether dropped on or when transporting this stuff around), they are less likely to do any damage. You could certainly use rocks for this build as I wouldn't say there's a right or wrong way, so long as you end up getting the look your going for. Thanks for the question mate.
The upside of rocks is that they look EXACTLY like rocks.
The downside is that they weigh as much as rocks.
