  • A SpaceX crew is on a rescue mission to bring back two stranded astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, from the International Space Station. Both astronauts were supposed to be there for eight days, but were stranded when their capsule suffered helium leaks and thruster issues. Wilmore and Williams will hitch a ride back to Earth with the SpaceX rescue team, scheduled for February 2025.

    How does she NOT EVER mention Elon Musk and the fact that a PRIVATE company rescued stranded astronauts when the government behemoth couldn't?

    • @AmbientMorality
      @AmbientMorality 3 дні тому

      The government paid for the development and missions, and also contributed facilities and expertise to both Boeing and SpaceX to help their development process. It is very much a partnership.

    • @Randomequestrian-pm4hl
      @Randomequestrian-pm4hl 6 днів тому +4

      Who knows? But it would seem ONLY SpaceX is able to get the job done. In reality I would think Boeing should pick up the tab anyway. Besides that. having your astronauts stranded for months on end is surely a huge embarrassment for the USA.

    • @crackwitz
      @crackwitz 4 дні тому +2

      this was a regular scheduled mission in the regular crew rotation. IDK what those cost, but that cost is already part of the plan. NASA didn't pay extra for this.
      NASA did pay extra to have those two astronauts up there for an entire period instead of just 8 days. during that time, ISS had two extra crew. that'll cost various resources (water and food, life support/air, energy in general). this might require moving up supply launches or reschedulung of cargo that isn't vital.

      The Space shuttle was very expensive, was not efficient, and was an extremely dangerous vehicle.
      These capsules do the job and are much safer and cost a lot less. Starship is kinda a newer and better space shuttle.
