Great video, glad I found it. I can hear that the 500XL pleasingly sounds more focused, and less bosomy, whereas the SD may need to have the low midrange attenuated at the amp.
Great demos man thanks for sharing, it was cool hearing the difference between the SDJB and the BLX500. I recently picked up a super lead myself, not modded, it is definitely a fun amp. I also own a jcm 800 which I find if I boost with an SD1, I can get that green day tone
the youtube seems to have added some weird wobbly compression crap to the audio, making it sound like a low quaity mp3....but the tone otherwise, holy smokes you've got it. i just ordered me a wilde l500xl to switch a dull sounding humbucker out of something. can't wait to get it and mangle some soldering!
I think the L500XL sounds better for anything pre-Dookie. They both sound great. I have an SH-4 in my guitar and I’m thinking about buying an L500XL. Great video!
Perhaps but I think a lot of it is the different amps. 1039 being a Gallien-Krueger 250RL having those Iron Maiden tones is interesting, and understandable for the time period. Kerplunk sounds like it might be a JCM 900, which IMO does not sound as good as a JCM 800 or a Plexi. 900 thin and fuzzy. Especially at lower volumes.
Great Job dude!!! Mad Props for making this video man. I can't tell which one I like better.....I think the Duncan is prolly better by just a lil bit. The L-500XL sounds a little more washed out if that makes sense. But again my man, Great Job!!! And this is of course Nick From Philadelphia!! Look up Green Day Asbury Park NJ I hate You - I'm the goofy dude on stage. Keep up the great work!!!
Thanks! The amp settings were: Presence:4 Bass: 6 Mid: 4.5 Treble: 6 Gain: 3.5 (for Basket Case) and 6 for everything else. Remember though that my amp had a gain stage added so your settings with most likely vary.
That's because the lx500 is the real deal, atleast up until Woodstock. That is around the time he switched. He thought that the sh-4 behaved better live .
I hear alot more low end and clarity on the duncan's for better or for worse depending on your style. The L500s have alot more Treble/Mids and cut. If I was going to play mostly lead guitar in a band where cutting through a mix is a key factor than the Lawrence seems superior. If I'm going to play mostly rhtyhm guitar with fat power chords and lots of palm muting/chugging than the Duncan's seem better suited. The JB also has a clearer fuller sound overall as well. So if your after clarity and chasing a perfect distortion tone without any extra unnecessary noise than the JBs would be better. If your more of a punk rock guitarist who loves a noiser more aggressive tone the L500 would be my choice. The Lawrence has more of a punk rock LoFi vibe to my ears. In my case the lawrence cuts better to my ears and is more the sound I'm looking for. I would also imagine if you do alot of Palm muting the JB is probably best. If you don't palm mute much and strum power chords more in a old school punk kind of way the Lawrence sounds better for that to my ears.

Really enjoy watching your videos. I’ve rewatched them countless times. Great gear and great playing, also, very informative.
Watched this again and holy shit dude, i think you have have an amp modded similary to the SE Lead Mod that Billie used on Insomniac. Tone is spot on

Thanks for this comparison. Much prefer the L500
Overall the L500XL matches better with the Green Day sound. The Sh-4 has too much low-end, which Billie didn't really use.
Yo! You sold me a drum set, found this looking for my own Bill Lawrence pick up. Hell yeah
Hey! I remember you! Hope you're doing well!
That weird youtube compression adds a lot of good stuff to this video not gonna lie. Sounds like the master guitar tracks!

Could you paste links to the audio files uncompressed by UA-cam? (like w google drive or sm)
I love Bill Lawrence

Pre?

Xl500 sounds clean an can hear the notes on the strings..
Btw, im not 100% sure, but Billies guitar was a Fernandes guitar not a fender(?)
I love the L-500XL. You're right, Billie's "Blue" is a 1981-82 Fernandes RST-80. That's what my guitar in the video is.

I feel like the Bill Lawrence L500XL has more of that older Green Day tone.
I agree!
What is the worn sticker on the forearm contour?
dude this is awesome! i kinda like the l500xl more :)
what were your settings on the amp? sounds identical
Thanks! The amp settings were:
Presence:4

Treble: 6
Gain: 3.5 (for Basket Case) and 6 for everything else.

@@devvin noted. thanks man! and you’re welcome :)
BL is cleaner/quicker breakup.

i much prefer the JB myself, the 500 has a almost wah like sound to it that annoys me when compared
Wow, Your Blue replica is incredible, I assume it's a RST80-54?
Where Did you get the stickers?
I recreated most of them in photoshop.

i hear less clarity in SD, BL has a mo clear and punchy sound
I prefer the Duncan tbh
This may be the same guitar brand he used. But by the looks of the headstock, I don't agree that it's the same model.
Perhaps you could explain why you think that. I can assure you that this is the same model. It's been confirmed by his guitar tech.
Are the Bill Lawrence and the SH4 the same size?
They are both full size humbuckers if that’s what you mean.
Who did the mod on your Marshall? It sounds phenomenal. Was it the actual ‘Dookie’ mod you had done? Thanks
The mod was already done when I purchased it so I'm not sure what it is exactly. Sorry.
Motivation me bro I losing my mission to buy Billie's blue guitar. I am not a Green Day fan anymore I am Nirvana fan right now
You can do it bro, keep going forward towards that goal! 💪
