    It's a bit hidden in the display settings, but you can configure what parameters every "block" (Honda calls it "pages") shows. You can select whatever you want to view (say, real time fuel consumption, avg fuel consupmtion and average speed) and put those together on page 1, so you don't have to mess around with buttons while driving. The owner's manual is your friend here.
    As for the old school bottom dash (and I'm surprised at how often reviewers dismiss it), I find it useful even if I'm not using the upper screen for navigation, as the bottom one will always be legible independent of light conditions. If you're riding with direct sun light hitting your TFT dash, it will be close to useless, but you always have the bottom one to rely on.

      @@ram64man No. If I could buy my ST1100 as a brand new bike today at a price adjusted for inflation, I'd be in the front of the queue at the dealership. Cash in hand. And most of the former ST riders will be right behind me.

    I enjoyed your research on Honda sales globally. It explains to me why it took 10-years to get the generation 6 Goldwing. I have owned Honda cycles for the last 25-years. I like to ride and spend less time fixing bikes. Honda is reliable in a way that my Harley and BMW cycles were not. Well researched data and I own a 2018 DCT Goldwing with airbag. Rides great. In sport mode it is a different motorcycle. I would never go back to manual shifting because automatic is so well engineered with Honda.

    20:10 DCT is not so obvious.. the quickshifter on the manual version makes the clutch lever obsolete but you stay in control of the gear selection WITHOUT tapping buttons all fucking day

    Nice review! I have an X-ADV 750. its a maxi scooter, motobike and you can do light offroading with supreme fuel efficiency and lots of storage. Its just perfect for me. From city travel to weekend ride out no matter if its hot or cold outside.

      I've been dying to try one of those. I'm very familiar with silver wing honda 600 scooters. I always wanted an adventure version. Here in USA...we only have the small honda adv scooter. So jealous. How do you like it? I want to bridge the gap between my honda st1300 and xr650l. Comfort and reliability with the option of rough gravel roads.

      I love T9, but T9 has suspension for ideal roads, and... small - for tall guys is not super comfortable, especially with a passenger. And dynamics of T9 with a different character, he plays more with sports.

    A mid range tourer is not available from Honda? Not true. My CB500X is used for touring and quite capable of long daily runs of 100's of miles. A change of suspension and the 500X is also quite capable of adventure. You do not need a large engine heavy to achieve these goals solo

      I have a 2014 CB500F. It's without question the best bike. So much fun. I could ride it for 6 hours ar a time. I also have a 2021 Goldwing DCT. That's for my 800 mile a day rides.

      Cb500 is more of a small bike imo. Almost a mid size. Not really an upgrade for a beginner coming off a 300 looking to work up to big bikes.

    Great review - love some of your insights others have been lacking! But you dont have to wait until the welcome screen disapears, you can start and drive off immediately, the reason for the second screen is a legal requirement in some countries, of course the Ducati solution is better, but as you said...its built on a budget, so why develop and certify an new setup when already having a ready solution, that has been around for years - but not really a deal breaker.

      Rode this bike. That second screen is just there and it isn't bothering me. Have to say that when I rode this bike I didn't feel anything on "budget" on it. Can check my video about it. :)

    Very nice review with good filming. I have a much weaker cb and do currently an open A licence to get this bike next year ;) in stylish Honda red. Until then i watch videos about it. I'dont care about "more electronics". My Cb has nothing and is still fun. NT1100 seems the best mix between long range comfort and price. Greetings from germany!

    one of the best reviews i've ever watched. i learned everything i wanted to know about the NT1100 and even more. this motorcycle was on my short list from the beginning. the part describing honda's market policy was very interesting. i didn't realize the european market was so insignificant. this review helped me a lot in making my decision. I will wait to buy a used motorcycle.

    I think it is also important to remember the NT name is not new. My first bike was the NT650v from the late 1990's. The Deauville (NT650v) was essentially a fully faired Hawk and went through 3 iterations before being disbanded in 2007. It was regarded as a very reliable, very capable, but very boring bike. ie Honda Dull ville. The NT1100 is very much following in that same tradition, capable, reliable, boring. But, I think in this market, and with some very basic changes, it could be a fun bike. It's definitely on the short list for my next commuter/medium distance touring bike. Ultimately though, I think this is the first model in new lineup which will get better in time as development occurs.

    I have watched several reviews of the NT 1100 , and this one is possibly the most thorough. I am too old and broke to buy a new bike, so i will keep my Honda ST 1100, cuz it has most of the things the NT does not have, like smooth top end power, and shaft drive.

    I put big block knobs amd a LeeBailey touring screen on my 03 Vstrom DL1000... been living this "new dreamy thing" for years, I just rode 150 miles to do 40 miles of 2 track with ruts, creek crossings, rocky hills and then rode home on my mobile couch
    even tho its 10% the bike 90% the rider, the gen1 DL1000 really performs despite its low clearance

    really nice and detailed video! 1 quick question .. im interested in 2 up travelling and my 2 choices are the nt and the africa. the question is: i am 1,94 height. will the nt1100 fit me well or i should better go with the africa??? i currently own a tracer 9 gt and the only reason im giving it away is that its really small bike for me despite its engine is the best and extremelly fun! waiting for your response thanks a lot!

      Definitely NT. After the Tracer 9, this is a much more spacious bike. Africa Twin is higher just because there is more ground clearance, not rider's space. The only significant difference is that Africa Twin has a different handlebar position, which is decided by buying spacers. The main disadvantage of Africa Twin is that the suspension is too soft for asphalt.

    With regard to sales figures, USA is only the second largest western market. Europe counts as a single market with 60% larger population but buys 5 times as many bikes as the USA.

    NC750X with a suspension upgrade, emmision delete and dyno tune is pretty efficient and comfortable. 60hp 125mph and 70+ mpg if you cruise at 80mph. 100+ mpg is possible at lower speeds in top gear like 45 mph. 0 to 62 is about 4.8 secs Ferrari speed.

    Great video, you cut a hair in two. The objective was perfectly achieved, from the type of motorbike to its users. It's a smart bike. I have an NT1100 I find that the rear suspension jumps forward during braking, sinking the front suspension a little too much. What do you think, they should be replaced with something else and with what. Thank you 👍

From what you say you're the same height as me - didn't you feel the NT1100 was too short or too low for you? did you feel your knees bend too much after a long ride? I will be very grateful for an answer. Is it better in Your opinion than Versys 1000 (base model) or on the same level?

    The 2024 Tiger might be the bike for me and the misses. Tiz expensive though. Let’s see tomorrow 17 of January when I go to see it. As we have two feet of snow a ride is sadly out of the question.
    The other bike that might win out is the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello as seating is Awesome, the bike is easier for the Pillion rider to get up on, handling is superb even under high loads and the engine is so characterful. But… yeah there are vibrations as it’s a V2.
    The 2023 Speed Twin stays as I Love everything about it.

    Thanks for a very detailed review and the time you put in making it. After finding that a BMW 1200GS met all my requirements for two-up, long distance touring with surprisingly good weather protection but with frustrating reliability I returned to Honda via a disappointing experience with a Crossrunner 800X and then back to my past with a late (2015) ST1300 which, despite neglible electronics compared to a new bike and a huge weight, proves to be a satisfying tourer even in 2023. The CB500X fills the gap for a lighter solo all rounder that will also tour comfortably. As a short person who is in his seventh decade, bikes like the Africa Twin, Crosstourer and XT1200 are just too high for me. I can’t really see me getting a used NT1100 though as I think that I would find it a come-down after the ST1300. Perhaps a large scooter is what beckons for the shorter, older rider who is at some stage likely to need an auto gearchange but still wants to take his wife touring?

      I'm a 47 year old 6,2 male with vast dirt bike upbringing and I live in the mountains not far from awesome rides like dragon tail and all the surrounding quad state mountains. On the street I'm still enjoying an st1300. Can't help it. I have long legs and my knees feel a bit cramped but the st1300 is one hell of a sweet reliable bike for the dollar amount. The electric windshield has ruined me. I want all bikes to have it. My next choice is a manual windshield that is just as good at wind protection. Fjr1300 is pretty decent but not for the price of the newer models....which are evolved beyond an st1300 but...for the price I'd just stay with my 2006 st1300. I have an old school 1999 xr650l and it's a heavy unit. But goes better off road than a KTM 1290 or bmw 1200gs. Both of those are great in ways but not as good on road as my st1300. So, in a sense of almost want an Africa twin and and st1300 and then something for the dual sort stuff such as a crf300 (or whatever it's called). I'm not stuck on honda because i think they are always the fastest model or most equipped but in a sense...if you have all three of those bikes I just mentioned you can fill those gaps. If I really wanna blast off road I have a 2 stroke 1999 cr250 set up for off road. Oh....another bike I'd like to add in that list....a silver wing 600! Amazing. My cousin has like 4. They never ever tear up and are handy and comfortable. But, just to outdo that...I want to try a Suzuki burgman 650! - I have a multitude of friend with the latest KTM and husky this and that...damn...they stay torn up. Never reliable. But those niche KTM bikes when running are so sweet and well equipped. The bmw 1200gs is a very sweet ride but the reliability sucks as well as parts and maintenance. My friend...who has 2 KTM 1290 adventure bikes...says he loves the bike but now he wants to go back to a new bmw 1300gs as he thinks it's more mature and comfortable. He likes honda but feels they don't give riders power and all of the from the factory pieces. I look at things from a reliability be realistic perspective as I own heavy equipment and trucks, operate them as well as repair them. I want the most trouble free machines I can find. I am so sick of turning bolts. Honda makes me turn the least bolts. A close second is Yamaha. And in a car a Toyota.

      As a 76 y.o., I’ve found the NC750X with a DCT a most enjoyable and comfortable motorcycle. Low center of gravity makes for nimble handling and restored the level of riding confidence that I’d lost on my Africa Twin. At my age, with Rheumatoid arthritis, a 30 inch inseam, the NC has rekindled my love for and restored the joy of riding motorcycle.

    I'm still holding out fruitlessly for the return of the Valkyrie for NA market. And I'm not talking about that strange abomination we got in 2014 that shared the name with the Valkyrie that was just a less useful Goldwing. I meant the actual Valkyrie from the late 90's and Early 2000's. Classically styled mid-size (by modern standards) cruiser/touring bike with the goldwing drivetrain. As long as they avoid pricing it like a HD it'd probably sell really well in today's market here in NA.

    Thanks for the perfect, professional and objective review. The best I've seen, and I've seen quite a few. I own an NC 750X DCT, year 2021, and I am considering NT with DCT, but I am put off by the rather higher price, and a bit of weight when parking in the city. According to the review and the mentioned vibration, this is quite a significant problem for me. I had to sell the Tracer 900 because of the vibrations, after about an hour my right hand was completely paralyzed and I would hate to end up in the same way with the NT. I don't drive long distances, not even fast, so it probably doesn't make sense to change NC to NT. What is your opinion?

      I had a nc750 dct. Brilliant bike and just got a nt1100 . If you are happy with the 750 and don't want to tour 2 up, stick with it.

    As a courier that moved from silverwing to x adv, and then forza 750, the dct is very unreliable.
    Actually after 2 tries i moved back to a used silverwing...

    Undoubtably a good bike, but as you suggest it is a compromise. The Deauville was a better bike for touring only being let down by a lack of power. The Pan European had the power, but was also big and expensive. What was needed was a mid-sized touring bike, like the Deauville, but with a larger engine. What Honda eventually decided on was the NT 1100. For me personally the lack of shaft drive is a major issue and when I rode the NT1100, I have to say that whilst I found it to be capable, the looks were really uninspiring. So, my search led me to something that I had never previously considered. A large capacity shaft driven, compact motorcycle, capable of covering large distances at speed in comfort. A bike that is extremely well built and one that looks so good you cannot help admiring it. So, what I settled on was the BMW R1250RS, a bike that is often overlooked, but one that should be included on anyone's shortlist who is considering the Honda. More expensive certainly, but as they say you get what you pay for. The shaft drive, electronic suspension, electronics package and exceptional performance and quality, more than justify the extra cost in my mind.

      As an ex GS owner I would point out the servicing costs involved with bmw ownership too, they really do add up if you ride a lot. I averaged 12-15k miles per year which meant £6-700.

      @@shanestewart4905 Of course servicing costs need to be factored into the mix and as you say, they will be more for the BMW as it requires servicing every 6000 miles, whilst the Honda is only every 8000 miles. On the plus side the BMW engine is easier to access and so valve checks should be cheaper and there are no chains or sprockets to be replaced.

      @@philiprobinson2011 when my GS needed a new clutch at 49k the engine was far from easy to access as the £1400 bill attested, a few weeks later the shaft needed replacing adding another grand. I'll take less cheap access thanks. ED: the clutch was replaced whilst replacing the gearbox output shaft which was the cause of the works and cost £600 as part of that total 2.5k bill. This on a 2008GS1200.

    If you can afford a 14k€ motorcycle, you can afford 70€ heated grips.
    And let's be honest, you'll need heated grips maybe 10% of your rides in Portugal.
    Most likely never, as I don't see those motorcycles when it's raining and "cold". And the ones I see have Dutch and German licence plates.

      @V M Reality check for you regarding cold.
      I don't care what you do when it's negative whatever in Finland, over here people are not used to those temperatures, most don't have the need, or will, to ride below 10°C. Yet, you'll see us riding 40°C. A temperature that would roast you.
      I had customers from Finland mocking me for wearing a jacket on 15°C, but when the thermometer hit 36°C they were nowhere to be seen. I was cool outside enjoying the weather.
      One can't judge the others for having their bodies adapted to a different reality than ours.
      Finland is a great place I would like to visit some day... during summer. 😉

    As an NT1100 DCT owner, I had wished that Honda could have tuned the DCT to not use top gear around 3000 rpm, because the NT shakes too much and in addition to the sedate suspension, I can't figure out why Honda couldn't have chosen something better, I wish slightly better components from Showa, which should not have cost more than £50 for Honda. Where Honda chooses not to introduce something that could have been so much better and could compete with the new Tracer 9 GT which has active cruise control radar, active dampers and a much better engine

      The Honda CFR/NT 1100 engine is out of date and when MC journalists say that it is super, noble, gem, peach, etc. They mean that it is old and no longer adequate

      It's not beautiful, but it's not aggressive to the eye either. It's bland and unremarkable.
      These days there are no breathtaking motorcycles anymore, 916, the first R1, bandit 400, ZXR 750, 2004 CBR 600/1000, the first Monster...

      @@zefautino IMO: The desert X, the xsr900, the gsx-s1000, the 890 duke, the Norden 901, T7, RE650, Honda CB1000r, Honda cb500x... , - just a few lovely (tricky on the 890 - but it pis purposeful and well proportioned) machines. Something out there for everyone.

    Excellent and informative presentation...One of the few that is based on the fact that before judges, sets the frame of what the product itself tries to achieve and not how to compare with others. On that remark, an IMU -axle-electronic suspension addition with, lets say 5K more, wouldn't be a real killer deal? Maybe in the NT mk2?

    It’s just not a Proper tourer to replace the pan European, it needs shaft drive, Honda think it can be filled by the gold wing but that’s a different price and class altogether

    Thank you, nice realistic review. I was interested when this bike came out, but then its defects (for me anyway) became apparent:
    1. The side cases are too small and won’t take a full face helmet
    2. The screen doesn’t give much weather protection
    3. No mounting for phone/satnav
    4. No hand guards
    My Versys 1000 SE GT has none of these drawbacks, and lots more good features. So although I’m a fan of Honda from years back, for proper touring it just doesn’t do it for me.

    Normally when I comment on a UA-camrs comment section at the end of the point I'm trying to make I let the content creator know that I have a UA-cam channel and I asked them to check it out but because of your review I'd asked if you check out my review I did of the nt1100 I live in America and I don't know if we'll ever get the NT 1100 so I'm not speaking from a view of having written the NT 1100. I asked that you check out my video on the nt1100 as opposed to my Honda ST1300. IN watching your video you made some points that I didn't think about like the Asian market, and what you said made total sense, but I can not agree with you on the city low speed riding on a large sport tourer like my ST1300. I am 6' tall, 197lbs, and I'm bad ASS at in town low speed riding...lol.

    I am owner of 2021 Africa Twin AS and the seat is very hard and unconfrtable for longer rides. Nt has the same seat so I would suggest to chenge it. Quality is perfect just comfort of the seat is torture.

      NT has a different seat shape, so it’s enough just to put gel, but foam - so-so. ATAS is... more difficult - endurish shape does not fit to everyone, especially if not used rail-shaped enduro-seats before.

    This is definitely the best and most thorough NT1100 review of all. (and I've watched all the available material) No one has covered a review so completely and articulated it so clearly that even a non-native English speaker can understand it well. You are the first to come back to the screen issues. I wondered if it would function as adversely as with the Transalp but no one else mentioned this problem thoroughly. Unfortunately I will have to buy this bike. I say unfortunately because I am very satisfied with my naked Triumph Bonneville that I can do everything with in the city, rural areas, dirt country roads and also longer distances (Prague-Amsterdam regularly) But my left hand gives problems. I can no longer operate the clutch properly with my fingers and so I’m forced to switch to a DCT motorcycle. An Africa twin is not eligible for me and that is why I will have to go to this bike as best of the bad. I see no other options? QUESTION: is there also fall protection available? You lose a lot of money to Honda if your bike falls over from parking stand only, to all those plastic plates and covers, as I experienced once with with a “plastic “ tour bike.

    That would be the perfect motorcycle. It will stop the sales of all these high-dollar motorcycles like Harley-Davidson and India. Baby that will wake them up a little bit and stop being greedy. If they ever come to the u.s. I'll be getting one

    Extremely detailed review. You got my like for this hard work here. Wonderful. Rode this bike and in most cases I completely agree. I didn't feel those vibes that you mentioned and the seat was really comfortable. I think it is in line with the GS. I rode also that one. For being a touring bike, although some would say this is a pure ST bike, it is not, it offers a lot.

    Honda could have went in a different direction than this -- remember the cb1100? -- Four cylinder- smooth--torquey- take that bike-- which was very favorably reviewed, BTW-- put on a full coverage fairing-- with a really unusual feature-- REMOVABLE lowers to accommodate a wide range of riding temperatures -- and of course, an adjustable windscreen-- integrated saddle bags-- and now for the really innovative part--BELT FINAL DRIVE !! NO MORE MESSY, HIGH MAINTENANCE CHAINS- Yes it would have cost more, but the result would have been worth it! WHY DOES HONDA KEEP USING THOSE STINKING DRIVE CHAINS? Yes, belt drive costs more-- I get it. They do not have a single bike (that I know of) that uses belt final drive. WHAT'S THE PROBLEM, HONDA?

    I choose my own gears. I am a traditionalist and don’t have any appreciation for all the electronic add ons they are putting on bikes these days. fuel injection is nice but beyond that it is unwanted by me. If I buy a bike, I own it and I will be in complete control of it. My bike won’t be in control of anything. A bike is supposed to do what the rider tells it to do

    "Acient xt1200z ". The super tenere 1200 is still a better bike then many more modern bikes in her class. Im not a fanboy, had them all, the xt1200 is just better.
