- In todays episode I show you how to plant potatoes in buckets. Using a no-dig method.
Gemma from @GemInTheGarden visited. I cooked Jamaican pork and Rice for us all. we also visited Linda from @Feelgoodgardens . Had a coffee and cake. Then we sank some homemade allotment wine.
The next day the plot was vandalised...plants had to be replaced at the local garden centre.
I also potted on the brassicas.. Black tuscan kale, swede and romanesco cauliflower... to name but a few.
I bought some petunias from the garden centre for ganging baskets and the plot planters.
I mulched the no dig metal raised beds with some well rotted bagged manure ensure they have a good feed and keeps the tubers covered.
I also show you my new gadget! A Bluetooth printer from PRT. it's marvellous for printing little labels for your plants.

Such a shame about those chickens playing havoc at your plot. Plants are so expensive to buy to replace how far you grew them. The reason we grow them from seed but can be difficult to catch up growing from seed now. 😮 Never mind Danny. Hopefully the chicken coup will be secure now and it won't ever happen again. 🤞

Oh Danny, I know so well the devastation that chooks can bring to the garden 🙄 I spend my life chicken proofing my beds as I want to have them free ranging while I’m out. I remember a couple of years ago, Edith jumped into my elephant garlic bed and scythed the tops off every one - 🥴🥺. I love love love Hostas. That’s another battle, keeping slugs off. All the best. I grow both those lettuces, Tom thumb is perfect to feed one person, nothing gets wasted. I love the Gem and butter head lettuce.

I have red topped little gems i grow from seed, called Amaze. Originally from fothergills but seems widely available now. The small plants are completely red and then the bottoms do go partly green.

Hi Danny, how lovely to have Gemma to visit. OMG! Those chickens caused a lot of chaos, I would be fuming! I bought 2 strips of sweetcorn on Friday as I had poor germination, I was gobsmacked, £3.48 per strip! Your flowers are gorgeous ❤ use a pencil to write on your labels they never fade 😉 lovely plot update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

Same as you, I bought some red little gem on Friday from our local garden centre too. Not seen them before and I adore red lettuce (especially as slugs don’t).

Well there was 7 lettuce in that tray for £3.50. Shocking! So I'll eat 6 and save the 7th. That's the plan! Yes, the chickens were a headache! Thank you Jean. The polytunnel is full to the brim!! Haha

I find plug plants really expensive these days but I guess you had to get them after the chickens 😞 I find butternuts hard to germinate too. Take care 😊

Just done 10 potato pot's to add to the ones i've already done seem to have gone potato and onion mad this year 🙄 , B&q are not bad for plug plants picked a lovely sweet pepper up last week for £ 2-69 (as if i ain't got enough ) decent size too , plot is looking amazing 👍

I love your gardens. I'm envious. My garden consists of seven raised beds and a 6 ft. by 8 ft. greenhouse which is not yet complete. I plan on getting at least 2 or three more raised beds.

Hey Chuck what drama you have down there in Sunny Wales. A Plot invasion by the fluffy raptors no less! 🐓🐓 any way re water I had similar issue and I used to save 2 ltr bottles and fill them will water and each time I attended the plot and I left them behind…just in case of emergencies. Love the beard makeover chuck. Good to see you looking well.

I'd put a red flag next to the poisonous plants with kids about especially things like Lilly of the valley as it does look like Wild garlic.

I put in some of those exact same red little gem from the gc about 3 weeks ago and they literally haven’t moved, thankfully the slugs don’t like them but I’ll be interested to see how you get on - they’re like statues for me!

Hi Danny. Dobies sell the seed for red little gem lettuce. They are also known as Amaze. I grow them every year- fabulous lettuce. I have to sow my pumpkins this week. My sunflowers are doing fabulously. I am very pleased with them. I also have sown Grenadine red, Mint Crisp, Speckled oak, green butteroak, green Little gem and Grenoble red. I'm really pleased with my peanut plants. ( seed kindly sent by Nanou, plot 9). My greenhouse is full to bursting with tomato, aubergine, and sweet pepper plants, lots of flower seedlings and melon and cucumber. I plan to sow my squashes and courgettes and beans this week. So much o do, - I need more hours in the day, lol! 🤣I have 2 buckets each of Vivaldi, Anya and Charlotte potatoes. I also have them planted in the ground. Your tulips and Narcissi are looking fantastic. Sadly I have a thief- not many tulips- the culprit? Sammy Squirrel! I will have to mesh them nest year! I have a brother labelling machine- had it for years. I bought it originally for my crafting but now i use it for multi purposes- labelling storage items, Pots around the house, and of course, the garden. I make home made seed tape for my parsnips and carrots, so that I can sow them ready spaced- saves me seed and time. Beautiful fig tree,- I would love to try growing one. Bit unsure of the pruning? I can't go to \malve
n as I have dogs, but I don't have anyone to look after them for the day. I used to go every year- really missing it. Happy gardening Danny 🙂

That's funny as I sowed amaze last year and didn't have room for them, as seedlings so gave them away haha I was going to say a squirrel probably stole them and ate/ planted somewhere else haha if one of my Fig pruning take. I'll send you one. They are easy to look after. That's a shame you can't make Malvern! Maybe autumn :)
@@TheGrowUpChannel Thanks Danny, that's so kind of you. I can't do any more shows as I no longer have anyone to look after them. My usual dog sitter stopped as she had to help her dad look after the pub as her mum fell ill. My mum sadly passed away re\cently and it has been hard to find a sitter who will stay with them - they rather prefer to pop in for 10minutes to give them a comfort break. My rescue dogs need someone here
most of the day as they suffer with separation anxiety :-( . Hey ho, that's life! Should have rescued cats!

I would be making the point that the chicken tender should replace all of the seedlings that you lost and have a double reinforced structure for the birds.

Sorry you've had another attack. Everything that wasn't snacked on by the renegade chooks seems to be coming along lovely. I love how down-to-earth you are. A few gardeners are anti-F1 (and prefer only heritage seed hand picked on a full moon by virgins [not really, but you know what I mean]) and Sweetcorn Swift F1 is one of my favourites. Charlotte potatoes too. Lovely salad spuds. Hope your asparagus recover ok - looks like the damage has left some life in them. Are you going to be weaving your own trug?

Yeah you're right. I'm now missing a cycle to plant out. I've bought some. Not the end of the world I guess. Really happy with the cosmos this year 💓 plenty of time for beans though 😊🌱

Chooks are wonderful in the garden, but not in spring. Autumn here now, 11 hens are allowed out for 2 hours late afternoon to they want to go bed. Anything that i dont want them to eat is netted.
They sure are. They are also great feeders. Haha. Enjoy your autumnal weather.. we are mid spring here but still feels very much like autumn.. roll on the summer ☀️
Oh Danny the price of plug plants is scandalous. Let ruby chard go to seed. Nip of flower spike & put the baby leaves into the salad instead. Tasty and cheap 🤩

I just use ice cream lids as labels as you can reuse them my wiping of the marker pen with turps though eating all that ice cream is a chore😁.

First of all, another amazing video, I always look forward to your videos! Can i ask where you get your compost from ? It's so hard to get good Compost at the moment! And the purple little gems sounds amazing, maybe let one or two go to seed and you can have some seeds next year. 😊

Oh Man! Chickens are like rototillers! I’d freak out if our hens got anywhere near the garden 😅. They can really tear it up!😂
Well, we are all getting a Super Early start here in Wisconsin, US. I’m sure we are not done with frost/freezes yet and I’m ready with frost clothes. With a bit of luck we hope we are permanently in growing season as our temps can turn in a second. I’m trying to grow Napa cabbage and pak Choi earlier than ever.
We are Finally in a rain pattern and moved out of severe drought to abnormally dry🎉💃🎉👏🏼👏🏼.
Trying sweet peas also this year as I keep seeing others growing them. They popped up the same time edible peas popped. The rain isn’t as heavy as was forecasted and we will take evert drop. Although it’s dampened my outside chores today, I’m thrilled it’s raining as I chased around yesterday to get beets, brassicas and onions in. After securing CHICKEN WIRE 😂 around the bottom of wire fencing to keep bunnies out I ran out of time to get carrots in. Last year the bunnies (5) ate all the lettuce and peas before I figured it out. If you think there is one rabbit there are several more.
We purposely started potatoes later because the frost last may killed them back Bad. Plus I want late harvest.

Those yellow/orange tulips are such a ray of happiness! Just love spring bulbs and plan to put hoards more in this fall. The hyacinths smelled just lovely and the grape hyacinth look better with each day as they open.
I so wish we had expanded and replaced the polycarbonate panels last year on GH as it’s so full I can only stand in one spot. I need a bio dome😂.

The Wild garlic is a great perennial crop and some people inter plant it with other perennial crops to protect it them from pests due to the smell.
That's a good tip! It's a little invasive isn't it. So.ive always kept.it in planters. Danny 🌱
As a chicken owner I would be appalled if one of my girls did this. Once they have a taste of the garden they will be back. Somehow, some way. I hope the owner steps up and replaces your plants. On a side note---potato leaves contain solanine which can be toxic in quantities. maybe that hen won't be back around.

Hello! Thank you so much. Oh I was down my other plot most of last weeks video. Go give it a watch 😊 I damaged my ribs so I've had to take that plot on a little slower. Plus most of that plot is done now. It's ready for planting. 😃

Water pipes aren't hard to fix check all the joints above ground and take every 6 m along the pipeline if you take under the pipe when you get near the lake water will trickle out from underneath the pipe in the direction it's coming from I had to fix the one on our allotment the Council was taken ages buy two straight couplings and a bit of pipe watch UA-cam video if you're unsure it's easy mate get it done
I've suggested this..but we've been advised we have to wait. Plus the site is HUGE it would take me days and days haha! Hopefully they'll sort it soon.. if not... Haha
