OMG Andrew, is there anything that you CAN’T paint? Your eye for detail, perspective, composition and colour is absolutely amazing. I love your work. Just as much as I enjoy learning from you at your academy.
Andrew! You are soooo awesome! Thank you! I was fortunate to earn a wonderful merit scholarship in year 2000 to spend a semester in Florence, Italy and it is most certainly a highlight of my life! When I returned I was offered a highschool teaching position before I graduated with a BFA, BA and teaching certification. I am retired now and have been spending this last Summer building my Art Studio that I love soooo much! It has been so much time since I tried oil paints but you have given me perfect instructions and up-to -date material selections! 2021 is going to be my awesome year for painting for myself...I don't know if I care about exhibitions as I used to...I am going to have my Fine Art expressions as I want to without any outside pressure! It is because of Artist's like you that this is possible for older Artists as I am! I love you, young man! You are cool!
This takes me back two years ago. With this video you helped me start painting. It was my first one, and very mediocre. But here I am, two years later, and painting 17th century portrait copys! Thanks alot for the kickstart and inspiration you have given me. I will soon start a new painting along one of your tutorials to keep challenging myself and learning new skills!
Now that I'm virtually unemployed with this Covid shelter in place business, I've picked up my paint brushes again after 14 years. Painting was always a hobby for me and I have never taken lessons. Some of the concepts I've struggled with you have covered nicely in this video - perspective, tone, and adding detail. I just wanted you to know that you have inspired me and have given me a way to paint with more confidence. This is one of the best instructional videos I have seen on UA-cam. Thanks.
As far as I can tell (& I've watched many a painting tutorial) Andrew's informative close ups (of his painting techniques) are what separates him from the rest. Keep making detailed vids with the close ups and your voice over comments are so informative we hope you inspire more of us. Thank you brother GOD BLESS
Your talent and your attention to the details found in your paintings are incredible. Your ability to convey your thought process in creating your pieces are appreciated and one to be respected. You teach us how we can work with ideas, colours and make a creation of our own. I really enjoy the longer videos, packed with valuable information. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
New painter, new subscriber. I’m nine months in with no previous training and didn’t realize what it was that I was missing until I watched your video. I watched it twice, and the second time was it, all made sense, my head nearly exploded. I like your style of painting and teaching. I paint, but you are an artist. Thank you.
This has to be one of my favorite pieces that you have done Andrew as the level of depth in teaching detail and perspective has inspired me and given me a greater knowledge to apply to my own creative paintings. Truly a gifted teacher, thanks for sharing.
I also have been watching your videos since 2 years ago and found them very awesome. In fact I watched each video two or three times and found every one of them astoundingly wonderful and decided that your works are far better than most. The details you put in very small canvases were really unbelievable. I am a 76 years old beginner who started the art 5 years ago only learning just from UA-cam tutorials starting with acrylics and now have turned to oil since watching you. Thank you so much for the lessons.
Having returned from Italy a few weeks ago I can understand the impact it has on ones soul and motivation. I wasn't that much interested in street scenes until I was in Venice, Rome and Florence. As a member I would recommend subscribing to your website immediately.
I've always felt connected to street scene paintings and have always wanted to paint one with a picture of my kids walking on the beautiful, scenic, busy streets of Amsterdam-- but didn't know where to begin. Thank you for this very detailed and thorough video, now I can finally have the courage to start a dream. You are a great artist. Thank you for selflessly sharing your gift to us.
Phenomenal! This is as realistic as a painting can get. Your spot on detail and colors are incredible. The good Lord has blessed you with an amazing gift. Thank you for sharing your talent with us all. ❤️🌺
Beautifully done! Siena is a city full of images just waiting to be painted. It has become my second home, and the subject of much of my work. Just an FYI for anyone interested...The restaurant that you used for reference is called La Finestra, and it is in the Piazza Del Mercato behind the Tower. The food is great, and it is owned by a lovely family! Keep the videos coming!
I didn't give a thumb down, but I don't like his approach on this one. But that is a matter of taste, I like it more loose. I'm glad he is doing fine as an artist, we all know that can be tough
Really stellar! The only thing I'm yearning for is a clearer invitation to the charming table in front of the cafe. If the table were set, and there were a lantern or candle on it, so it weren't so dark, I would feel more "invited." Really wonderful painting. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world.
It was really useful to see how you changed the depiction of the arch in this video. So many times I have “junked” paintings because they had “wrong” elements in them and I was unable to successfully correct them. It’s good to see your ongoing decision making, and re-evaluation of your ideas as you progress. Thank you for your excellent instruction.
Andrew my dear, you are so kind. Thank you for your teachings. I was just looking for a painting with a shadow you are working on this painting. I struggle with my paintings because I am a self taught and just turned 70 years old. But I will not give up. I am trying so hard because painting is my passion. I have been painting since I was 13 years of age, but been poor, and then later on raising a child on my own was not the time to pursue my passion. Now I think it is my time before I leave this world. I appreciate your kindness. Thank you so much for your videos.
Crazy...I lived in Tuscany for 14 years..found a tutor who brought me to a level I had never achieved..watching you paint and inspired me to aim even higher. Beautiful. Thanks
I am not nativ english language , but you are really a professional artist and also a teacher ; I enjoy about your painting and style, I wish for u the best.
This is beautiful. Thank you. I’m kinda forced to do a painting of my Grans Terraced house door totally from memory. The last time I saw it was in around 1983. I know it won’t be there now, because the house was only one up one down with an outside loo and what Gran used to call, her pantry. Which was a tiny, tiny kitchen with a bath room and sink squeezed in at the back. A family of six lived here. It was never the less a very happy home filled with happy memories for me and as it was, will be a historical interest for our village, so it’s a painting I just have to doc. I’ve got the sketch down and long at it sudden makes it tangable again and I found myself thinking I should visit my gran again. I had a few tears too, I have to say, drawing and painting your precious memories is filled with many emotions but worth it.
Oh Andrew! You really need to go to the old town of Jerusalem!! This is definitely THE most incredible architecture I've ever seen anywhere! A few thousand years of different cultures and religions builded a scenery, which is completely mind-blowing! As you described, what you love about the town-elements, you will love that town!
Its mesmerizing. The light and shadow are so real. I keep expecting the brush to disappear into the shadows as you work the paint. Thank you for sharing your work so generously.
I have never seen such a piece of art well explained in an educational and inspiring manner and it is a great piece of art. Thank you, Andrew, for sharing.
It’s very inspiring to see such attention to detail and the amount of time you dedicate to an art piece. It should be one of the most important aspect of young budding artist today in order for them to be different from the rest. Watching you paint and listen to your process and explain the hows and whys gives me a good take home for my on personal project.
I know this was posted almost 3 years ago, but I watched it today and found it amazing. It is really amazing what one can find in Siena and Tuscany small towns with lots of colors and details which you mastered wonderfully. Thanks a lot, I really enjoyed it and learned many new things which I will try to implement for my paintings.. Amazing!
Oh, I hope you continued on with your Italian street scenes. Sure looks like you had fun. The refresher on Shadow, Light and Perspective are inspirational.👩🏼🎨
Thank you for posting detailed step-by-step oil painting tutorial 🙏🏼. I have been painting watercolor for past few weeks and after watching your video it made me switch to oil painting. Thank you again and please posting more tutorial. However, I have subscribed to your wonderful UA-cam channel to watch more.
to be honest, I am usually amazed by a lot of videos here in youtube but they're not worth to subscribe but this guy is different, I watched other painter and I usually end up watching his videos at the end of the day. I subscribe here to watch more stunning paintings!
Brilliant -- I get inspired to paint but can't pull myself away from watching your videos! Love them, and your demos, the way your explain what, why and how you lay the paint and brush strokes is invaluable.
Very interesting video. Very interesting for sure. I've just done a row of shops in the UK from a photograph taken in 1925. The main point of interest was the butcher's shop display. Back in those days they hung all the meat for sale outside so the customers could see all the stock. It included, six pigs heads, about ten chickens hung on hooks, below them were about 15 pigs carcasses and below them again were about ten huge carcasses of beef. In front of all that lot was a table two foot high with a ton of meat on display. Then stood by this huge display was the owner in his "plus fours" suit, his twelve year old son and the owners own father. Then there was three members of staff. Above the shop was the "name board" with name of the owner on in big letters. Above the name board was a lot of masonry and moldings that was really complicated to do. So I had dozens of dead straight lines Things line drain pipes, masonry, name boards, windows, doors and doorways. Then there was a lot the shadows that needed to be thought out. Andrew I notice you did your straight lines "free hand" I couldn't do that in this painting. So I used masking tape and Sharpie extra fine point pens to get the exact detail. I then shaded everything in with oil paint so that it looked exactly right. The six characters in the piece were all required to be miniature portraits of the customer's family. That meant I had six heads to paint that were about one inch high. The eyes were so tiny I ended up using the sharp end of a tooth pick dipped in raw umber to paint the eyes. I'm 75 and my eyes are still OK, but I still needed to use my x4 magnification spectacles so I could see exactly what the hell I was doing, when painting the tiny portraits. All this took me three weeks. The painting was about three foot by about two foot six. Today - April 2021 I delivered the painting to the customer and he couldn't believe his eyes. His face lit up with pleasure He just kept staring at it. It's a great feeling Andrew when you can see a person really likes the finished painting. I'm sure you get that feeling many times yourself. Anyway I got paid 10,000 Baht ($330) so off I went to Makro to get a months supply of groceries and then to Pattaya Klang to get three new canvasses. There's a guy coming tomorrow from Bangkok and he wants me to paint a picture of the Buddha that the Taliban blew up in Afghanistan about twenty years ago. So, life's NEVER boring. And thank god for that. Kind regards to you Andrew and keep up the good work ! - Chris in Thailand go2ssff@gmail.com
I come across your videos by accident, and I am so glad I did. I am learning so much about colors from you. Thank you for sharing your remarkable talent.

Thank you Andrew . I often find myself taking something from your video and applying it in my toolbox of knowledge. In this one it's the cool light side by side with warm light.
A pro artist patiently explained so much detailed information which is very helpful for beginners. Really appreciate for the generosity of sharing. Great work, great video and editing.
Mind completely blown... Not just your talent, vision and perspective, but your phrasing is on another level altogether. The seemingly effortless, fearless charge of the brush and pigment is mesmerizing and captivating. Watching the piece develop is art in and of itself. -A.
@Andrew, hope you see this. It's wonderful to come back to older videos as a barometer of how far you've come in production values and presentation and how minor things have changed. Could you do an updated refresh of a painting like this? Or perhaps something along the lines of a medieval or renaissance era street?
Oh yes...I don’t normally do architecture, but I can see it in my future! I’m actually going to do a barn next that was my husband’s great, great grandfathers and is still standing. I’m going to use some of what you discussed with the linear perspective. Thank you!
What a wonderful video and painting. I love it. It has helped me so much on perspective. Now I am able to teach my brother who is just finding an interest in drawing. Thank You Andrew. I have watched this video several times and never tire of it and learn something each time.
I'm actually working on an 8ftx5ft canvas depicting the worlds oldest copper ore. Never did brickwork before and this came right in handy. Thanks, Andrew!
This stunning. The amount of detail and information you packed into a relatively small piece. And the presentation of your video! The way you can describe/explain your thought processes and approach, while still achieving such details with simple and clean brush strokes. I'm in awe of you, young sir. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us. Bob W.
Absolutely superb. By far the best painting demonstration I have ever seen. You have a great personality and I feel the passion for your work shine through.
OMG Andrew, is there anything that you CAN’T paint? Your eye for detail, perspective, composition and colour is absolutely amazing. I love your work. Just as much as I enjoy learning from you at your academy.
WOW!! 20 hours puts it in perspective to the amount of time required to create the detail required. No shortcuts.. great work.

Good Lord....You are a wizard. I love watching seemingly stray marks suddenly become photo like realism.
Man....just don't have the words to express the admiration I have for the stunning talent on show. And learning so much from the tutorials. Thank you.

Who the hell thumbs down this or ANY art of quality? High quality
So Funny Doug G. I was just thinking the very Same thing!!!!! Andrew your work and tutorials are Excellent!!!
My guess would be someone feeling jealous and inadequate! Or perhaps just an idiot!
Simple minded people.
I was also thinking that, I mean really 77 people? Absurd, maybe they are blind?
I didn't give a thumb down, but I don't like his approach on this one. But that is a matter of taste, I like it more loose. I'm glad he is doing fine as an artist, we all know that can be tough
Excellent style of teaching and conveying the art of street painting. Andrew I am indebted. Thank you. from Pakistan
Masterpiece, So much detail. Brilliant.
Beautiful result which has inspired me to go a lot further with a current work that I felt was almost finished.
This painting is just fantastic and it really tells a story. I'm packing my bags and going to Italy!!

Insane ! The farther walls look slightly blurry. Perfect!
So valueable here on UA-cam. BIG THANK YOU ANDREW!!! You are awesome!
This was one of the most impressive painting displays I have seen in a long time. Amazing work.
Always inspiring. Always informative. Watching your videos gets the creative blood flowing.
Great video and thanks for showing how you change things when you’re not happy with it!!... nice one.
The sun through the arch just made the painting for me! Good decision and beautiful painting, time well spent!
I come across your videos by accident, and I am so glad I did. I am learning so much about colors from you. Thank you for sharing your remarkable talent.
Great information. It's a joy to watch your process and talent. Thank you.

I have struggled with perspective for so long, and within the first 7 minutes you've taught me the missing piece. Thank you.
Same here!

A lady’s comment below mine reflects my sentiment exactly! You are amazing. The very best I’ve ever seen. I’ve been painting for 50 years in all mediums. Your natural talent distracts me in wondering how I missed the mark by so much in my life time.
Andrew, you have an eye for good art, the skill to execute, and the passion to teach. I admire your work.
Thank you Andrew . I often find myself taking something from your video and applying it in my toolbox of knowledge. In this one it's the cool light side by side with warm light.

Really appreciate for the generosity of sharing.
Great work, great video and editing.
now that is what i call TALENT!!!
Thank you, Andrew. It’s incredibly fun and informative to watch you paint.
Detail in this is amazing. I see that you enjoy being a tight painter most of all. WEll done.
Absolutely gorgeous! Detail is spectacular.
I have learnt so much in this video. I deeply appreciate your sharing. Thank you 😊
I love your work. I went to Paris few months ago...planning to paint it,you really inspired me!
Mind completely blown...
