How far north past the end of regular service is this, anyway? Has there been any thought to extending the northern extent to Shirleysburg, so there is a potential destination with some parking for trains to start from or go to to complement the extension south of Orbisonia? IIRC, the organization that just sold the EBT standard gauge 0-6-0 out of the Mount Union engine shed owns the track starting from the Aughwick Bridge north.
Only about a trains length North of the switch for the wye at Colgate Grove. East Broad Top is busy rebuilding the track south so I believe there are no plans to extend the track north bound.
Yeah it’s only a bit for the Wye at Colgate Grove. There was a grant a few years ago that said it would be to return service to Shirleysburg… but that’s clearly not a focus currently because of the big push to Saltillo. Shirleysburg isn’t a destination town either, and any extension there would require a backup move to the wye at Colgate Grove. So for now, until there a plan in the LONG LONG LONG term future to head to Mt. Union, don’t expect much on the north part of the line.
@@beavercar Shirleysburg is well within the portion of the line owned by the EBT Foundation. However as previously stated at the moment the emphasis is on restoring service to Saltillo. As the organization which owns the Mt. Union yard south to the concrete bridge seems to be semi-defunct, it is my personal hope that eventually the EBT foundation can take title to the north end so that the entire railroad will be whole once again. The operative word being "eventually."

A different organization owns the trackage from the groves to mount union.
They own from the concrete bridge north to mt union. Ebtf everything south of the bridge.
