- About this Raag:
Lalat Pancham is a raga that is often associated with the late afternoon hours, typically around 3 to 6 PM. It is considered a light classical raga and is characterized by its sweet, serene, and devotional mood. This raga primarily belongs to the Kalyan thaat (parent scale) in the Hindustani classical music tradition.
The scale of Lalat Pancham consists of five notes, making it a pentatonic raga. The notes of this raga are:
1. Sa (Shadja) - the tonic
2. Pa (Pancham) - the fifth
3. Sa (Shadja) - the higher octave tonic
4. Ma (Madhyam) - the fourth
5. Ni (Nishad) - the seventh
One of the distinct features of Lalat Pancham is the use of komal (flat) Ni (Nishad) along with the rest of the natural notes. This creates a unique melodic pattern that gives the raga its characteristic flavor.
Lalat Pancham is often performed in a slow to medium tempo, allowing the artist to explore the raga's nuances and evoke its devotional and contemplative mood. It is a raga that lends itself well to improvisation, allowing the vocalist or instrumentalist to elaborate on the basic melodic structure while staying within the boundaries of the raga's characteristic phrases.
Overall, Lalat Pancham is a raga that holds a special place in the Indian classical music repertoire, known for its soothing and meditative qualities.

This recording of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi seems to be from early 1980s. Accompanists are unknown. Any information is welcome.
Does this recording need "Speed Correction"? Somebody please suggest.
No comments. We mortals can't comment on the God of music.Only enjoy heavenly rendering of Pandit ji.
I'm glad you liked this upload.

Dhanyawad Shreeram Ji 🙏🏻
Words r short to comment on Bhimsen ji
🙏🙏🙏
Speed of the recording is perfect...Very nice Hindol Lalat
Thank you Jayant Ji 🙏
I have heard that the bandish ‘Eri Maai aaj shubha mangal gaao’ is a bandish in Miyan ki Todi from the Kirana gharana. Bhimsen ji sang it in Miyan ki Todi and, it appears, since about 1970, has rendered it in Hindolita (Hindol + a hint of Lalit, through mDmM). As such, it should be a morning raga, like Hindol and Lalit are.
Interestingly, the scale S G m D N (m is teevra Madhyam) is there in Carnatic music and goes by the name Sunaadavinodini.
I've edited the title. Thank you for the correction and information Farhan Bhai.
@@Bhimmanna Glad to be of help :)
Happy Independence Day, Gandhar!
@@FarhanAmin1994 Thank you and same to you Farhan Bhai 🙏

Edited Chimay Ji 🙏
Thank you as always for sharing Gandharji. Do you have any Bhoop by Panditji? I don't think he has ever sung that raga because I can't find it anywhere.
I also haven't come across any Bhoop. But yes, I've heard him sing in an interview, Raag Gandhari and Dhrupad ! Unbelievable, isn't it?
@Bhimmanna thank you for the response. I also asked Farhan Amin and a couple of others butno one seems to have heard Panditji's bhoop. The reason I asked is because I was listening to his shuddha kalyan the other day (for the 500th time probably), and I thought to myself if this raga, which is really bhoop kalyan, is one his best then I wonder why he didn't sing bhoop? He's sung every major raga that I can think of, except bhoop (maybe). Anyway, maybe he never did or we might find a rare rendition some day!
@@foresthill8462 In case of Panditji we can only say that, this this raag was not recorded :D
Because you see, on this channel we have got Madhukauns, Rare Bandish in Malkauns, I've also heard him sing different variants of Raag Madhuvanti (Ektaal, Jhaptaal and Drut), Puriya Dhanashree, and Asavari. He also used to sing Chandrakauns and Todi bandish - Qutubuddin Qutu Aalam. Let's see, someday we'll get to listen to these ragas as well.
@Bhimmanna I hope so too 👍🙂
