The HOAX of YouTube's FIRST UPLOAD

- Wanted to make this little video for Quinton Re2s, discussing UA-cam's first video, Me at the zoo, and a couple hoaxes I find interesting. This isn't quite a Fallen Titans, but it's the closest thing I've done to one in a while. Oh, also, Quinton Re2s is the second channel of Quinton Reviews.
there, that should be enough for seo.
How dare UA-cam recommend me a Quinton video. I don't recall what turned me off your content, but it left a bitter enough taste that hearing your voice again fills me with plentiful amounts of mild irritation.
Interest in this topic, but not from your lips, sorry. I have as much desire to watch you as I do MatPat.
I respect creators who pin such asinine and unproductive comments like this, but I still ain't gonna watch the darn video. You got to understand that the mild irritation is very very mildly irritating.
Girl bffr lol
@@luigimaster111 girl what
thank you for your very necessary comment, luigi. you’re making youtube a better place with each comment you type
@@luigimaster111 Just as a heads-up, if you want to reduce recommendations there’s a button you can press to tell UA-cam “don’t recommend from this channel.” It’s a pretty handy feature!
AFAIK Quinton has no way to prevent his videos from being recommended to you. In fact, opening and commenting on the video is probably going to make it more likely that videos from this channel will be recommended to you
I feel it's important to note that it's not just that one TekkitRealm video that's filled with falsified statements - that guy's entire channel is filled with 'internet mysteries' he himself has made up, infact I'd wager 90% of the content on his channel is fiction. It's a really weird rabbit hole and a lot of the people in his comments don't seem to realise this.
Is that true? I've never heard of him but that's really interesting.
When Quinton mentioned his name, I was more surprised to learn that the hoax wasn’t traced back to him.
He replied to these statements and this weirdness in his channel you should definitely check it out
I watched I think 1 or 2 videos on that channel and had the exact same impression. The entire channel seems to be geared to grab the highest amount of clicks possible without any actual substance behind it.
@@ZelphTheWebmancer it's all fan fiction if you see how absurd is the claims he makes in some videos too
Under UA-cam's current management, "me at the zoo" may actually be eligible for age restriction

I was so primed to challenge 'Me at the Zoo' for not being the first UA-cam video in existence that I forgot to be skeptical about the challenger itself. Congrats, I played myself.
Ah yes. Same.
That video is so mysterious. The repeated hoaxes from random users going viral is one thing, but the fact Jawed keeps coming back to change his description in ominous ways and still leaves comments on some random UA-cam videos despite not having any real online presence (no public social media or anything) makes him feel like a legend you hear about in whispers. Anyway, great video. I made a similar one earlier last year.
Jawed also has a Wikipedia account he sometimes uses. He's also made a few political donations since stepping away from the spotlight.b
I'm assuming Jawed has no control over his UA-cam channel, as it probably has been hacked many times
iirc jaweds account gets hacked very often, leading to stuff like this.
i don't doubt that he uses his youtube account sometimes (i'm pretty sure he's commented on some me at the zoo tribute videos or something and it'd be really strange for a hacker to do that of all things), but most of what goes on on that account is probably just hackers
Strange people.
True
"And that's pretty much all there is to say" is an almost implausibly perfect line to end to the first UA-cam video ever.
would be better if he said "and that's all you need"
Officially confirming literally all videos uploaded to the platform since then are unnecessary. That’s really pretty much there is to say.
Small note: 480p means that it's 480 pixels tall, not wide. For some reason, once they started making 4K screens they started measuring it sideways.
it's to make the number seem more impressive, like when internet providers made up the kilobit to make their numbers 8 times bigger
@@heartache5742 a Byte was always 8 bits.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD but nobody ever put kilobit specs on ram or hard drives or anything, it's still just an internet thing
@@heartache5742 That doesn't mean ISPs made them up. What kind of argument is that?
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD the argument is that isps pulled it out of their ass for marketing
Ok, so I am not crazy for thinking 480p was too high of a resolution for the first video.
yeah as soon as i saw it, i was like ‘that png logo is on the thumbnail WAY too legible to be from 2005’
@@rotisseriepossum I don't think the average person even knew wyf a png was in 2005
@@Powerman293 yeah that too!
Hey zoomers, UA-cam has always kept the original upload resolution. It just didn't display because YT was limited to 240p/360p originally. I have videos from 2006/2007 that were uploaded in 1080p yet didn't even allow for 720p playback for months/years.
@@plaguis1391 While I agree, this may not apply to videos uploaded in the first couple months of youtube pre 480p
Just so you know, thetekkitrealm has been exposed time and time again for faking content, like 95% of his videos are fake, but he never says they are fake, and does some pretty good work on them, causing them to seem very real. If he just said or mentioned anywhere that they are fake, it would just be a mildly interesting channel with great editing.
He actually has done that in his latest video.
He made a response video a few days ago...
He made a response video mentioning these
I wouldn't say "pretty good work" if everyone gave a little more attention to his videos they look really laughable
It's more the way he tells the video which is what makes people think they're real without looking deeper into them
he is like "nationsquid" who also lies and tried to start a weird arg (???) in a "top 10 youtubers that disappeared" video or something
Hey guys, it's SCARCE here. It looks like we're going to have a double upload today.
yo love these secong channel videos
I very much enjoy this
I haven't thought of that name in years

What did we do to deserve this Quinton 😭
Thank you Quinton for calling this to attention. I thought this was going to be a video about how the elephant video was a hoax the whole time which would have been mind blowing but this is still pretty darn interesting.
I have a certain appreciation for “Me at the Zoo” it’s the most random video you could make for “the first video on UA-cam” which is a testament to UA-cam in the mid to late 2000s which the site was a Free-For-All of short No-context videos of nothing but plain randomness.
I was on UA-cam all the way back in 2006. Videos uploaded then just had one quality setting that you couldn't change - 240p max.
A few years later, an "HQ" option was added. This was 480p. A year or two after that, "HD" was added, which was 720p. Then, a year or two after that, the quality modes selections based on the resolution were added, with more resolutions being added over time, and 60fps being added in 2014.
So yeah, 480p would have been impossible to upload to UA-cam in April 2005.
Remember the &fmt=18 trick to force a higher resolution?
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Sure do. Not every video had the "HQ" button even if higher quality was available, for some reason.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Holy crap, that brings me back. I remember attempting that trick on so many videos at that time. Good times, good times.
I never forget a story of when UA-cam used to take really long to load the 1080p res on some videos when it just started. These dudes made a video, it was on for like 2 hours so 1080p was still loading, and one of the first comments was an absolutely enraged dude, yelling on all caps about how absurd it was that they uploaded a video in 720p. It was like a personal offense to him, he made an entire paragraph rant, talking about how technology evolved and they were bound to failure and bankruptcy for not catching up to it.
the "Welcome to UA-cam" video has now been unlisted, and the description changed to promote a youtube channel and discord server. looks like it was a publicity stunt by someone who's spent time researching youtube bugs. the linked channel has a lot of content demoing random bugs with the site.
love that you’ve been posting here more. no matter what it is, just happy to get some more quinton content
or quintent, as i like to call it.
Dude, this is like a real life archeological find, with experts debating the theories about what they found
Classic Quinton era is back! Now in pog form!
If Me at the zoo had a sequel, would it be called Me at the 2?
a brief editorial quinton video? that’s some classic shit right there 👌
Anyone else concerned with the fact that people can somehow edit the date of posting? Surely nothing bad will come of this.
It seems you can edit livestreaming premiere only, but I don't know how far back that's limited.
@Core Walker LOL
@@Tp_hedgelinghog probably just as back as 1970 when the Unix time code started
@Vortessence that's totally possible, we'll have to see if someone tries to test it.
I mean, you've always been able to do that on other sites
Never really amounted to anything
i know it’s not ideal that the channel is small at the moment but i truly feel like i’m part of a cool little club being here :3
That's pretty crazy. I wonder how they faked the date? If this incident blows up, I can't imagine whatever glitch/exploit they used will stick around for very long
I wanna see someone make the date 1867 go nuts with it
i have a feeling seeing as it was a premiere, you set the date of the premiere to be any date and that sets the date of the video... just a theory based on what we know so far
@@Edboimck You're probably right. It won't be as simple as choosing a date in the past since the website UI wouldn't allow that, but if you somehow bypassed the UI (probably as simple as editing the inspect element data), there are likely no server-side checks to make sure the premiere date isn't in the past.
@@DTBootlegs they may also be using an API, sending the data programmatically. It does seem odd for it to not limit the date to "some time after now". I would assume it does check that, but they've found some sort of exploit to work around it...
@@DTBootlegs could you not just change the page source, I feel like I've seen people change view counts and stuff this way
9:59 Does anyone else remember an annotation popping up at this moment in the original me at the zoo, calling attention to the goat bleating in the background?
*Or you're too young to even remember what annotations were*
yes
I remember annotations, but I don't remember that specific annotation. Although I did leave a comment 12 years ago about how they apparently fixed the audio desync (which was one of UA-cam's biggest drawbacks in the early days. You'd upload a video and you'd be lucky if the audio stayed in sync. Chalk it up to growing pains, but back then it was quite annoying.)
@@Tekkenfreek234 that problem persisted for a long time, i remember seeing people play btd battles and most of those uploads would have intense audio desync
that annotation is "still there" if you use a browser extension that restores the annotation feature grabbing the pre-existing annotations from an archive.
There were 2 annotations:
(Red BG, big text) "This clip had never been publicly shown before --- until, of course, it was publicly shown."
(White BG, smaller text) "can you hear the goat? MEEEEEEEEEEEH!!"

I just checked enn's channel and one of the other videos is titled "premiere bug 01" and has an upload date of 53 years ago (unix epoch).
The thumbnail of this video made me think that you got cancelled, Quinton you can’t scare me like that.
its even funnier bc when youtube did their 10 year anniversary post in 2015, me at the zoo was the last video and was shown to be the first- if welcome to youtube WAS the first youtube video- wouldnt it be there? even as an end screen? and if welcome to youtube truly WAS the firdt video.... why did it take so long to find out? seems weird all around
You know, I'm convinced I could hear your inner struggle when you were coming to the "sus" in the script.
need a video on the hoax of the 12 hour upload limit next
I was literally thinking about that whole tekkitrealm situation and boom, quinton makes a video on it. Fake lost media is a fascinating phenomenon lmao
Yeah. Fake lost media do be very interesting.
Btw, your catman john animation is amazing.

hi
im so annoyed they didnt highlight this bug in a funnier way
theoretically they could upload a video as far back at january 1st 1970 and that would be hilarious seeing "uploaded 53 years ago"
I'm not sure if this was a feature in 2005, but a lot of videos on youtube do have resolutions higher than what was available when they were uploaded. The original resolution of the video is saved even if the website at the time was incapable of streaming at that resolution. Also this video having a larger resolution than me at the zoo wouldn't be that weird, perhaps they considered allowing uploads in 480p when this was uploaded, but reconsidered later due to the costs of streaming so much video in that high a resolution, they only started having 480p video after they were acquired by google. Of course all the other evidence for this being fake is a lot more compelling, I just wanted to point out this point not being very compelling.
It wasn't a "feature", exactly, but yes videos from back then retain their resolution once YT enabled higher resolution playback, you're correct. Happened to one of my ancient videos.
For a second, I thought you were going to repeat the lies from TheTekkitRealm about the early UA-cam "uploads", but I'm glad you not only called it out, but you also found an even more intriguing first UA-cam upload hoax.
This man really edited this whole video in one day. Damn.

I guess many people aren't aware of this, but back in the day, you were able to search all of UA-cam by simply putting an asterisk in the search bar. The one thing that confused me back then and still confuses me now is how you can clearly see in the video that Justin Timberlake reaches over and rips off the piece of clothing from Janet Jackson's wardrobe/costume. It somehow ruined Janet's career but Justin Timberlake went on to have a massive career for most of the 2000's. People seemed to forget he was involved with the "wardrobe malfunction" and went on to blame Janet Jackson at every possible opportunity. It has never made sense to me.

I know exactly what video that was. Back in the day, the uploader of me at the zoo actually had some other videos on the channel. Who knows why they're deleted now. One of them was a video of a plane taking off. It was after me at the zoo. I believe that video is lost to time although screenshots do exist (and have not been debunked or anything)

Great video and I do agree with you about the hoax though personally I don't find the video resolution to be a factor twords suspicion as UA-cam has "upgraded" video resolution in the past, for example back when 4k was first introduced as a feature any videos that were previously uploaded thats whos original file was at 4k we suddenly allowed to be played at their original resolution instead of being locked at 1080p like they were previously. Also, I find the audio to be the most damming evidence as I doubt the filesize restrictions of the time would have allowed for that level of quality.
Really enjoyed this! As fun as the icarly-like "full series retrospectives" videos are I sometimes find myself missing your more.. how do i put this in a way that doesn't insult your current output... analytical? Like the paul is dead video or the history channel series. They were very informative and also very interesting and I bring stuff from those videos up in conversation pretty often. Are more, smaller videos like this one a possibility or is this a one-off thing?
The algorithm is really pushing me to watch this video. Fine Algorithm
TheTekkitRealm is pretty much a "titan" that has been fallen from the very start. Definitely an... intriguing case of a UA-cam career. He HAS made a pretty poor attempt at a response video to allegations in a couple videos exposing all his fake/staged videos and stolen content, videos that gained enough attention for him to be worried to make a response in the first place rather than pulling a literally 1984™ as usual on his naive viewers with an overly moderated discord server and a ridiculous amount of comment filters blocking any words he wouldn't want to see. A video on him from you would definitely be interesting, if that's anything you might be interested in of course. He definitely has and shows a lot of talent, I just don't know why he would put 'em to waste in stuff like this.
Dude who made the tweet knows it's fake, don't worry. I'm actually suspecting he COULD be behind this but let's not make baseless assumptions.

another point about the premiered video from the account made SEP 2005. youtube's ui says that it was premiered on that date, something you don't have to be on desktop to see. youtube doesnt label regularly updated videos that way, which you can see on the description of this video itself. its current ui just lists the view count with the date next to it, the premiered label only exists on premiered videos
