Growing up as a rebellious teen, I too had a lovable loser for an uncle. Despite my parents not particularly wanting him to be around me for fear of me wanting to emulate him, what they never realized was despite his faults, he had incredible paternal instincts and was a safe place for me to unpack my issues. He died unexpectedly when I was 18, and watching Uncle Buck brings me a small level of comfort.
@@hucklebuckchuck7218 lol I get it. I’ve a Dad myself for 4+ years now and I still feel that way. Either way, never underestimate the power of an approachable Uncle!
Even though I didn't properly understand the scene until I was older, it was awesome that Buck still terrorised Bug, even after discovering that the girl he was trying it on with wasn't his niece.
He cheated on the niece, that's the problem. If Bug plain shagged the niece, it would be hard to criticise (except on grounds of general premature fornication), and there'd be a moral question mark over Buck's intrusion. In fact, Buck would be showing the same kind of prejudice toward Bug that the mother showed toward Buck -- without the cheating Bug and Buck would be in the same boat -- not saints but vulnerable to prejudice anyway just because of how they comport themselves.
"I don't wanna talk about it, I just wanna get you home" As both and Uncle and a father those words can resonate massively to a young daughter/niece. I hope when my daughters are this age my brother is looking out for them just as our Uncle Buck does!
I just love him really remember him I just missed him last time so much more information on his website own character life story ture life movie made in his life time years before
That was the thing that made John Candy such a legend..he was funny as hell, but it almost hid just how brilliant an actor he was. That scene where he comes through the door, then realizes the girl isn't who he is looking for, the realization and heartbreak of everything she's going through, then his decision of what to do next. Every bit of it is on his face and expertly portrayed without a single world. We lost so much when we lost him.
As a kid I just loved Buck as a funny character. As an adult I am fully swept up in the genuine human story of a man trying to connect with his nieces and nephews.
After the cutscene between 0:41 and 0:54, we suddenly see Buck with a beer in his hand. One of the teens was gracious enough to hand him one. Or maybe he just took it from someone.
I can't stand over the fact that he's been gone for 30 years now. I'm so relieved that Universal Studios never forget their late, great actors, like John Candy
The look in Bugs eyes when he saw that drill come through that door know. Classic! What Uncle Buck did to him afterward, Priceless! As an Uncle of Five amazing nieces, I can relate to this guy. My brother in law and I actually pulled off Bucks hatchet routine with one's boyfriend. In a joking manner, of course 😁
I really loved it when those teens were so respectful to Uncle Buck! I would've really loved Uncle Buck as a real life person and wish John Candy didn't died so damn early!
I know! And he sure tought Bug a lesson that you don't screw around with his family and get away with it! I like how he got Bug back will what he'd done to his niece, Tia!
Have you ever seen a John Mulahney stand up special? His entire Chicago experience is just as chaotic as this scene. Except for the fact that the cops were there to break up the party.
Yeah, he was great in this one, and great in another John Hughes classic, *_"Planes, Trains, and Automobiles"._* Golly, that jolly fellow can perform in those films like nobody's business... and I'm sure you good people can attest to that. He should've gotten an Oscar or three.
I got a niece now I'll gladly be that crazy uncle for her. No one breaks her heart not unless they wanna end up somewhere alone and have to walk all the way back to town.
2:52 I just love the double look of disappointment on Buck's. He's disappointed that Tia isn't there but then is also greatly relieved but I guess also worried where is she. But he's also disappointed that this girl was also dumb to sleep with Bug
The way she said what did you do!!😂😂 Like she wants to be in on it!! After all of that, I can understand why she wants to hurt Bug!! What a stupid name!!😂😂
When I first watched this movie, there was nothing on this planet that could have prepared me for the cut to Buck opening the trunk with Bug in it. I almost laughed myself to death.
I loved this movie and it was so good Uncle Buck knew that his family didn't love him or want him around but he was there for those kids while the parents were away. This was one of John Candy's finest performances along with Planes Trains and Automobiles with Steve Martin that song at the end always made me cry. Everytime You Go Away " RIP John Candy.
It’s funny how these scenes hit differently now as an adult. As a kid, I thought that Buck only took Bug to punish him for cheating on Tia, but now watching it he clearly is also helping out the other girl by getting her out of a situation she clearly didn’t wanna be in after he saw her reluctant and scared face when he came barging in. And when he finally catches up to Tia, her telling him “you were right about everything” and he simply says “I don’t want to talk about it, I just want to take you home”. No lectures, no “I told you so”, just trying to get her home safe. This movie goes to show you that sometimes the most fundamentally best people at their core may come in a package you don’t expect, and you shouldn’t write anyone off based on appearances. Every young girl/woman should hope to have an Uncle Buck looking out for them🩷
Uncle Buck was one of John Candy's best 3 movies - "Uncle Buck", "Cool Runnings" and "Planes trains and automobiles". He was no great star of stage and screen but brought so much of himself to his films and there is so much to like and enjoy in this one. And the fun is so beautifully juxtaposed with some real emotional moments. Having said that, who can forget the closing moment of "Planes trains and automobiles" in the train station when Candy's character reveals his social isolation and pain and then Steve Martins act of love and friendship to help him. You've got a hard ass if you didn't cough up some real tears in that scene. A loss to the screen at just 42yrs of age. Rip John.
This movie had me floored. My mom recommended we watched this movie, and it reminded me of Tommy Boy, which I found pretty boring and hard to watch, so I thought I would feel the same way. Needless to say, I felt like her afterward, totally resenting the movie, but I ended up absolutely loving it
Damn. Wish he was my uncle. Never had an uncle because all my mom's siblings are women and the only brother my dad had passed away a long time ago before I was born.
Growing up as a rebellious teen, I too had a lovable loser for an uncle. you see you see the key is the facial expressions and words the power tool is just a prop for that if you want to get through with the kid
I’m too irresponsible to have children and I’m 25 so I feel like I’ll be that lovable loser of an uncle
@@hucklebuckchuck7218 you can be uncle Buck two point zero

I love this movie. John Candy was an incredible actor who really shined in every role he was cast in.
Do you know what I just love John candy he was in sesame Street area 50 years before 100 years and 60 years
watch family woke guy, and they make uncles out to be pe do's .......................... im an uncle, and yup this movie inspires me.
As good as he was, John Candy didn't have to do much acting in this movie.
According to his kids, Uncle Buck was basically his real personality.
Facts, The Man was a True Legend!
his son says he wasnt acting in this he was alot like buck
Even though I didn't properly understand the scene until I was older, it was awesome that Buck still terrorised Bug, even after discovering that the girl he was trying it on with wasn't his niece.
And she was very obviously signaling she wasn’t into it and she was scared. Buck was everyone’s uncle in that movie
Bug still deserved it for trying to force himself on the girl.
He understood her better than she understood herself.

Thanks one of my favorite movies
The way John Candy/Buck Russel goes into horror character mode with the drill when he flips the switch again is sheer gold.
As a kid I just loved Buck as a funny character. As an adult I am fully swept up in the genuine human story of a man trying to connect with his nieces and nephews.
a man stopping his easy life of arranged gamblings and free of duties
Not the hero we wanted...
But the Hero we needed.
John Candy is as a gift to humanity. His films are a joy. This is the America I would like the world to see.

I have never seen a house this packed with a bunch of teenagers. Maybe I just went to the wrong parties. LOL
I did but there was always a fight and girls being overly dramatic. More stressful than it should have been.
Have you ever seen a John Mulahney stand up special? His entire Chicago experience is just as chaotic as this scene. Except for the fact that the cops were there to break up the party.
It happens, but with kids who have neglectful parents and usually have a lot of money. It's often not a good place to be.
Ive been to a few and its miserable. Cant move for shit and stuck in one place. Funnily enough the best place to be is at the beer pong table.
Glad to see universal finally recognizing John candy ❤
