4 Eco’s and a 580. Great pens. No cracking problems, reliable, pleasant writers, all worked flawlessly out of the box - which is more than can be said about any given Visconti.

Interesting. I bought an Eco a few years ago, mainly to get the wrench. To my surprise, I liked the pen. It wasn’t much to look at, but it held a good bit of ink, and it wrote like a champ. Since then, I’ve purchased and used two Diamond 580s and a Draco. All write well. None has cracked. I don’t discount your own experience, nor that of others, but I’ve been pleased so far with my TWSBIs.

I have 2 Swipes for months now and neither of them have cracked yet. I really enjoy them. I purchased mine in Australia, where we are also treated like second-class citizens. Brian Goulet said in a video that TWSBI developed the Swipe for the European market where, supposedly, cartridges are more popular. Perhaps in the USA, where bottled inks are more popular, the additional converter is to make the product more attractive. It’s just a theory.

I own 4 TWSBI pens. No cracking, and they get heavy use. Have just ordered another Swipe with the stub nib. I don't think that a 25 dollar pen has to be built to last a lifetime. So far, I have no issues. I read somewhere else that the cracking issue was a historical problem on older model pens. I think if you put enough strain on any pen clip there is a risk of damage. The clip on the Swipe, I agree, is useless, but it looks nice.

I have 5 Eco, 2 Go, 3 580, 1 Swipe and 2 Diamond Mini. The Minis have little cracks at the threads, but nothing serious. Love them all!

I have a dozen TWSBIs, all models. I've never had one crack. I think TWSBI deserves praise for designing this inexpensive EBC model that holds so much ink. It's true that you don't have to use the spring but if you do you don't haver to worry about the cartridge detaching from the nipple on the feed.

I reviewed the same pair of TWSBI Swipes last August and I completely agree with your assessment. The pair I reviewed was on loan from a friend and I found microfractures on both pens where the clips are fixed to the caps. And they were only days old when I had them. The clips are useless and the plastic is fragile even by TWSBI's fragile standards. The fit of the converters is loose and slipped off with a bit of a mess when my friend inked it the first time. I don't understand much of the thinking behind the design and manufacture of this pen if there was thinking involved.

I've had exactly the same experience as both of you. I didn't use the clip on either, though with one I think I fiddled with it a little. I didn't do that with the second, but the same cracks in the same place. That this happened to each within the first month of use means not only will I not buy it again but I will warn others to buy another pen instead.

bought one for my husband who has no appreciation for more expensive pens. I was surprised by how smooth the nib was, I really enjoyed using it and regret giving it away! LOL

I have (had) three TWSBIs, two Eco and one 580. Two were incredibly scratchy, you could hear and feel the paper getting scratches. All were wet writers. No cracking until today, let’s see in the future.
So reading comments here and elsewhere and compare them: You just know what kind of pen you got when you hold it in your hands … The out of the box experience can be anything with some company’s.
For example I bought a Visconti Mirage last year and it is still the best, smoothest, most reliable, beautiful, balanced writing experience of all of my pens - out of the box. Unexpected.

I have an ECO (2019) and it cracked around the nib. The shop I bought it from replaced it, and so far so good. It is a very good pen, but if cracking continues to be an issue, then that would be a shame.

I have 5 Ecos, 2 Swipes, a vac 700r a 580 and no cracks. Over half have the 1.1 stub as I really like how they write and none are dry. I do agree the clip on the Swipe is useless but I don’t tend to use clips and I do like the shape and look of it

So far no cracking problems with any of my TWSBIs (two Ecos, a 580 ALR, and a Swipe). I think the choice of converters with the Swipe is a fun thing.

I have eleven TWSBI:s of various models, and only the oldest one (a 580 from shortly after they were first introduced) has cracked internally enough that ink runs from the reservoir into the section and then out onto the fingers; the others are just fine. Regarding the useless clip on the Swipe, I have had that pen for about a month, and have little problems clipping it onto jeans pockets and into a Nock pen case, but you have to use both hands. Otherwise, it is a beautifully designed roll stop.

I think the idea of the international (non-)standard cartridge is that you can fit IS cartridges in the pen in a pinch.
I suspect the reason for the optional spring is not to keep the proprietary cartridge in place, but to keep an IS cartridge in place.

I abuse my stable of ECOs and one 580, no issues. I'm not interested in the Go or Swipe, but the models I have are solid.

I have a 580 Mini, a 580 AL, a VAc Mini, an ECO, a GO and now a SWIPE. I have had to replace two cracked caps on the Mini 580, another cap on the 580 AL and the body of the Mini VAC. TWSBI do develop cracks, and they do so quite easily, even when handled with care. Using the clips on all the 580 and 580 Minis will result in cracks in the cap. Other parts may develop cracks more hard to explain… Now, I would say that the ECO is way more sturdy than the 580’s. I would also advice to go for the AL models when buying 580s. The GO seems also more safe, since the section is made of soft plastic. Then, the bodies of both the GO and the SWIPE are made with very thin plastic (just compare with a LAMY SAFARI…). I like many things about the brand models, and particularly the fact that they can be, easily disassembled, but cracks and thin material on recent models are an issue.

Perhaps the twist converter is for filling and the pump for cleaning? I’ve only used one pump converter before, but I can see how someone with feeble hands might catapult their pen into an ink bottle.

Jowo or Bock nib? Respeter buyer fountain pen manufacturer should lay next to the handle: and the converter and a long cartridge and two short cartridges. It would be necessary to forget about savings on "matches"

The TWSBI GO seems a better choice for an everyday jotter pen than this Swipe. Having the ECOs in the same price category makes this pen feel redundant. I really don't understand where this pen fits in the market. Maybe ,if instead of 30 converters TWSBI gave us a few nibs to swipe on it, then this be a great offering even for a few more bucks.

  • @dashsunil

One thing that bugs me is that they should have made the twist converter inclusive, not the spring one. In asian markets, we have to buy it separately.

Eleven TWSBI Ecos and two 580s here and no cracking on any of them. I did get a badly scratchy nib on one Eco - unpleasant enough to be unusable and they wanted me to pay the international shipping to get it sorted. No thanks. And no more TWSBI either after that. (Amazing how little it takes to undo all the goodwill.)

Are these cracking issues because of temperature fluctuations? I live in a mild climate and so do a few of my other friends who use fountain pens and our TWSBIs never cracked. I'm interested to hear the percentage of people who have cracked TWSBIs who live in very cold regions.

The Go might have flopped in America and that persuaded them to add a second standard converter for that market

  • @johnhanson6002

Canadians must be special because mine came with both converters and the useless spring. I do reuse cartridges, and they do wear out. I recently had a cartridge slip off the nipple of a Sheaffer cartridge pen and caused a wonderful mess. I was saying when I discovered the mess, "Oh, pens should come with a spring to keep these things in place." And voila! Not happy the converters or the mega-cartridge do not fit in my Micarta.

"The barrel has a five-sided..." CROSS SECTION is the term you were not quite able to excavate from that deeply filled big beautiful brain up there.

I have had no problem with my Eco and Go pens cracking
BUT there has been catastrophic self destruction of
my collection of Mini, Classic, Mini Vac, and Vac 700
6 pens the threading of the feeds break, housing crack and break, then the caps break
    Crazy!!!
Sorry Twsbi you can’t sell self destructing pens

I had a cheapo wing sung 3013 to see how the vacuum filling worked, and was destroyed by a huge crack at the threads a few days ago. I started considering the vac700r iris but your post has put doubt in my mind. For a ~100eu fpen, is it really that likely to be destroyed?
