    That looks like fun. I’ve got a Noodler’s eye dropper that was included with a large bottle of ink. They state (and it has been my experience with the only eye dropper I have used) that they work best when full. Once you use up 1/3 to 1/2 of the ink, the air in the barrel may cause issues with the pen burping. This is because the heat from your hand causes the air to expand and puts pressure on the ink inside. If you experience that problem, try topping off the ink again and see if it helps. Enjoy your Swipe!

      Thanks Jason! Yeah, I have heard that. My twsbi swipe actually burped on me the day after I shot this video, but I think it was because I had been carrying it around in my pocket, so the air inside warmed up and expanded. We'll see what happens once I go through some more ink.

    For Eyedroppers!- One-handed one-minute clean and refill:
    To make a syringe that requires only one hand: open the syringe and put a spring inside; if you have a Twsbi Swipe you will find that the spring in the spring converter is the perfect size to make your one-handed syringe. Press down on the syringe, place it in the ink bottle and let go and it automatically fills. Then, with pens such as the swipe, where the nibs and feeds are easily removable, you don’t need to open the barrel to fill with ink- simply remove the nib and feed, and stick the syringe down the feed hole and fill it up.

      Thats a very interesting idea! That would be especially useful when dealing with little sample vials that risk spilling. Thanks for the tip!

    I was literally wondering if I could eyedrop my swipe when I came across this video. It’s such a smooth and versatile writer.

    I am not as enthusiastic about eye-droppering fountain pens as I used to be. Particularly when they are not specifically designed to be used that way. Sometimes even if they cannot be used any other way and are cheaply made.
    Gushing, burping, blobbing, caps suddenly full of ink and splattering all over. Hands looking like Jackson Pollock paintings.
    I think that if it seems like a good idea to convert then it probably isn't.
    I DO have and use a eye-dropper model made by Moonman, or whatever they call themselves this week. It works. It works relatively flawlessly, but even so I see small splatters in the cap on a regular basis as the weather changes or if I use it too long with hot hands when there is too much air in the pen's body.
    Unless I'm mistaken, pens work better if there is an isolating air space between the shell of the body and the ink reservoir, acting like a thermos bottle wall.
    If it's a piston filler, on the other hand, keep air out of the reservoir chamber as much as possible. As air replaces ink the pen operation becomes more unstable I have noticed.

      Thanks Phil! Yeah, eyedropper conversion is more of a fun experiment for me that a go-to practice. I used my Swipe this way for about a week, and I had good luck with it. It only burped once, and that was after I carried it in my pocket for a few hours. But for normal use the converters are plenty big and more practical. I do plan on coverting my new Platinum Prefounte to an eyedropper pen though because I hate how the agitator ball rattles in the cartridge, and the converter is too pricy for a cheap pen.

    I hate eyedropper fill, but I do try pens this way. Any grease will work, TWSBI included. I have a friend who used Crisco, when he couldn't find his tub of silicon grease. He's used it many times since, and it never fails. Anything that forms a seal will work.
    Nir do you need the O-ring. I suppose it's a decent safety feature, but the pen does perfectly well without it. Mine does, anyway. I even tried it without the silicon grease or the O-ring, and it still worked, though it was a bit messier when I took the pen back apart to clean it.
    I will say that the Swipe is NOT an eyedropper pen, it's a pen you can eyedropper, and there's a big difference between the two.

    I think the converter that comes with this pen has a good capacity. Hence, it might not be a good idea to eyedrop. I think its too messy. Ha ha Preppy is a good candidate for this imo.
    BTW, your cursive is quite good. 😊

      Thanks Dash! That's a good point, but eyedropper converting the twsbi swipe is a fun experiment. It looks good in the pen too. I'll probably go back to the converter soon though. But I just got a Platinum Prefounte, and I plan to try eyedropper conversion on it as well.

    You have more courage than me, Twsbi cracks way too frequently for me to even consider doing this lol.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, I get that. Both of my TWSBI Ecos are cracked, and the cap on my TWSBI Swipe is cracked. But I think the cap crack was my fault. Overall, I would guess that the Swipe is less brittle than the Eco because the Swipe feels like a basic plastic but the Eco is acrylic, which I've heard tends to be brittle.

    I just did my first eyedropper this week (Kaweco sport) and was quite happy with the result. Was eyeing one of my Swipes today thinking it looked like a reasonable candidate for the same treatment. Curious if you were happy with the conversion of your Swipe or if you reverted to the factory setup.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  2 роки тому +1

      I reverted back. It was a fun experiment, but it burped on me, and since the TWSBI Swipe has a huge ink capacity already, it wasn't worth risking more burping. But don't let that stop you if you want to try!

      Funny you mention it because I had it in my pocket for a few hours after making this video and it burped afterward. I think the warmth got to it. So I think eyedropper converting this pen makes it better as a desk pen and not as good as an every day carry.

  • @ameliabuns4058

    the cheap twsbi pens are so good, but have such ugly designs/colors! guess it's on purpose. the twsbi go spring is so ugly, the mechanism would still work without it too!
    also the plastic is a bit thin so I worry about ink burping :O oh well it'll be fine :D but now I want one! maybe in ef/stub, which i didn't want that much as I want twsbi ecos as my main pen

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I don't like the spring on the Go. It's one reason I never got one. In the US at least, the Swipe comes with a converter that doesn't have a spring, so one way or another I think you can make it look pretty nice for a cheap pen. But I get that the design isn't for everyone.
