The character names and backgrounds are included so you, as the one purchasing the game, have an opportunity to roleplay as a member of the Inquisition, using a big black marker to REDACT all the unnecessary information from the rulebook before the other players have a chance to learn too much.
I don't know your name, I've discovered and subscribed to your channel recently. But I tell you, the humor quality and enjoyment I get from your character is just otherworldly. The pace is perfect, the content is hilarious and smart. I'd say you're a genius and a hidden gem. Please, keep this up or even maybe expand a little. I can clearly see a lot of potential here.
+BardicBroadcasts Not sure how much are you into 40k, but I guess you do not know one thing. Non-crediting practice is caused by GW wanting to solve the problem of people sending threats to Matt Ward or C.S. Goto due to their poor performance as game designers and writers. So, I understand them and I wouldn't blame them for that.
I have heard this espoused before but I am not sure I buy it. The right of withdrawal of credit should (and must) always remain with the artists and not on company mandate. Japanese video games went through a similar tradition of not crediting the people who worked on thier games (check out the credits to Golden Axe, for example), This was done for a much more likely reason: to prevent other companies from head-hunting talent and, if said talent does switch companies, they cannot be lauded as the designer or artist behind a previously successful product because they simply have no credit to them. That's why its important. I am sure Games Workshop pays very well, but their contracts must be truly horrific. Meanwhile, Black Library has tho horses in the running for Gemmel prizes this year, something that would be impossible if their writers went unaccredited. If an anonymous body won an award for a discreet work, who would get the trophy? Not the guy that deserved it, I guarantee.
Thanks for the answer. I understand what are you saying, and you are right. Also, as I am very into art I would be quite upset if noone would appreciate my work - becouse noone would know it was me. I'm pretty sure it's quite hard for an artist to make name for himself if he is not credited for his work. I guess as a company GW cares more about their workers working without any nuisance such as rageing community than their artists' work being appreciated. By the way, I would love to see cracking unboxing of the Death Masque ( www.games-workshop.com/en-PL/Warhammer-40000-Death-Masque-ENG ). Is there any possibility you will make it?
Thats looks like a fine set and I am known to enjoy the Harlequins. I dunno though, I am not a great wargamer overall. And I absolutely failed at painting the classic domino pattern!
"Tragically Execution Force does not feature a dwarf, which is its first real problem!" My office must be haunted. Right after that line was said, I heard hysterical snorts of laughter, but when I looked, no one was there but me!
The level of relevance in your evaluation of games and statues and props is amazing. Extremely well spoken, articulate while conveying the criticism properly and with huge detail. This is a brilliant unboxing. Kudos.
I used to think unboxing videos were really dumb and when I subscribed to your channel I was disappointed to see that it's most of what you do, but now that I've actually watched them I think they're great and I kind of want to try tabletop games. YOU'VE CONVERTED ME GREAT JOB SIR.
Why do I love this channel so much? I don't play any tabletop games, and never have. You are truly gifted in that you can talk about a subject the viewer doesn't know or care about and still be well worth watching on the value of your personality, humour, charisma, and creativity. And who knows? Maybe in a year's time I'll be shelling out thousands of dollars to Games Workshop and huffing primer.
Just had surgery and have essentially been watching all of your videos in my recovery, really enjoyed and genuinely feels like I'm having a merry nerdy chat with a friend. Hope you keep uploading
"Why try hard when no one will know it was you?" Way to sum up a great point of discussion...artists/designers/creators should always be credited no matter if we're talking videogames, table games or whatever. - Cheers from the north of Italy. PS: and since i've read in the comment the "GW does this because of safety reasons" i will say this: i already heard this excuse, and it's not the first company that uses it, and guess what? I believe there is only a little bit of truth in there...just enough not to make it a complete lie
Randomly came across this video on a Reddit thread and have already subscribed 2 minutes in - bloody hilarious. Looking forward to now working through your other videos!
That's a good point about building the game to fit the models but at least the board art and components are original (and exceptional). It's certainly an improvement over the last time GW did something similar. Remember that introductory series of games they did way back when? Kerrrunch, Mighty Warriors, Ultra Marines, etc. Not to mention Tyranid Attack, a game written to reuse almost the entire contents of a previous game! Should've gotten some sort of green award for recycling with that lot...
I don't know if anyone has pointed this out before, but the reason they don't credit individuals any more is because angry nerds sent people such as Matt Ward and Robin Cruddace death threats for writing, what was in their opinions, sub-par rules and fluff in certain codices. And that is one of the most depressing sentences I've ever had to write.
Yeah I don't believe that at all either. An artist lives and dies by their portfolio. There's no way they would willingly bury their credit on a regular basis like that. Sounds like a Reddit rumor that's been passed around so much, people started to believe it was true.
I was watching a video of Siegfried being unveiled for SC6 and one of your videos came up. 30 minutes later I am ready for another cracking, informative and extremely entertaining unboxing. Great videos.
Is it classic knightly Siegfried or did they give him wibbly-wobbly magic powers? I have hopes for SC6 overall, I think it appeals to me a little more than Tekken does. And fear not, a new video is in the works in my lands!
He seems to have some kind of electrical discharge as he swings his huge sword, but I assume it's just the result of static build up being generated by his rippling physique.
No you're not. I am a great opponent of shoe-horning miniatures in where they aren't really needed. They're fine in miniatures games and ones that are enhanced by the context miniatures provide (like Heroquest) but some games have taken serious dips in quality due to having terrible low quality miniatures forced upon them in their recent iterations. Talisman, for example.
LifeShorts That's a valid position too. I met one fellow who said he actually preferred unpainted miniatures because they evoked the stark qualities of classical sculpture.
Indeed. Like the D&D Adventure board games (Castle Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon, Legend of Drizzt, and now Temple of Elemental Evil) I love playing those, but I'm not a painter... like... at all... but I want them nice and painted lol... so I might save up some cash and just hire someone to paint them for me :P
The point you made about the anonymity of the characters is really good, hope they wont make mistakes like this again. Good thing they didnt include them in the cards, so you can just ignore the names in there.
I have literally no idea what a game board is. And here I am, enjoying all these brilliant videos filled up with smart criticism and bright humour. I certainly would not expect nothing less from a mighty dwarf. Cheers!
Great stuff. The re-boxing of Chaos minis is what caused me to give this one a pass since I have like 5 sets of Cultists from DV and you can only do so much with them, and putting them in the same box with craptacular Chaos Marines that haven't had a redesign in 14 years is downright asinine. Thank Malal for Deathwatch: Overkill with its glorious Genestealer Hybrids.
You may just be the most charming and whimsical person on youtube. A friend of mine linked to a video of yours in my discord and i instantly subscribed. Keep being awesome!
I would love to hear your thoughts on legacy games (Risk: Legacy, Pandemic: Legacy, and soon Seafall). The idea behind them is events in previous games permanently change future games. You write on the board, tear up cards, and put stickers on things. There are also sealed compartments you open after certain events take place. Most fun I've had with a board game in a long time.
I haven't played board-games and table-top games for over 3 years but watching you is so entertaining I've just subscribed :D Glad to have found you, you overgrown dwarf (like myself) Love your style
I wouldn't say so. Maybe modern stuff, we'll see, but in the olden days the miniatures were quite clearly often created in response to the ideas in the game.
I must agree with yabyab X2, just found your channel yesterday and went on a watching spree ever since! You are unbelievably entertaining and one of the best channels I've yet seen on UA-cam ever! Keep up the awesome work
Thank you for saying so. I am editing my new video now and I hope to have it up soon - even if I might bang on about the box art a little too much within it!
Damn, I swear it would be so awesome to have a game of Heroscape with this guy announcing all the things going on during the game. " Stinger shoots Crixus with an attack of five, and oh wait what's this Crixus rolled 1 shield thus making 4 of the shots meaningless!"
I've been trying to get into small scale warhammer games very hard and, admittedly, probably made the poor choice to do so through their boxed games instead of their starter kits. For what it's worth, I'm happy with what I've got even if I'm starved for friends to hang out over beers and board games with instead of the one's I've got who prefer to stay at home to scream at 13 year olds over League of Legends. I've gotten Assassinorum: Execution Force, Space Hulk, and recently Shadow Wars: Armageddon. The Assassins were some of the first models I painted and I think they look much better than my skill level should allow, and that feels good. The only thing I truly have against any of these W40K games and models I've gotten is the sheer amount of time they take to assemble and paint. There's just no fast way to put them together and paint them. Once I'm done with these the next board games I'd like to get is Betrayal at the House on Haunted Hill, because it's very fun, and Doom because it looks like a gorgeous game and have heard great things about it.
Aye, I too am a great fan of simpler, less baroque models. If you can chance it, have a look at Otherworld Miniatures' fantasy line. Its heavily based on the style of old and features some lovely, simple models of traditional fantasy bent. They even publish game rules, but I have no direct experience of those thusfar.
games workshop has been doing this for awhile, i think they mold up a million sprues and just warehouse them someplace, then build a crappy game and stuff random sprues in there because it costs nothing, they molded those parts years ago!, which is why they also charge to much because no one knows that GW isnt actually paying anyone to make molds for years, they have almost no cost for anything, for years, they hire some Chinese molding company to crank out half a billion molds of whatever stuff it in a warehouse, and trickle sell till it runs out, thats also why they sometimes run out and people are amazed and dont understand why they've run out of product, i think it's because no one is molding those products and it takes GW awhile to get that old mold from 2005 dug out of some dark corner of a factory in china. so yeah, i think game workshop hasnt actually molded any of their parts for probably a few years, i just bought stuff for 40k and those sprues were from 2009 lol, almost a decade ago
I don't disagree that GW is pretty scummy but last I checked they still do all of their miniatures production in England. The only part of their production that was delocalized into China is printing.
Vindicare assassin. I remember that guy worried me when he came out as he was supposed to be able to kill my Blood Thirster. I never actually fought one though so didn't find out. None of my mates played IG.
I've just recently discovered Star Saga and Zombicide:Invader, which have "Space Dwarf" characters in, which is what made me buy the games, just for the figures. For some reason, GW seem to think that Squats have no place in the WH40k Universe anymore, much the pity.
I could probably agree overall that squats are ill fitting as a military presence likely to clash with most of the others, but they certainly have a place in the universe and in the games.
I know i'm late to this video, but I find this happening with Fantasy Flight too. They've already released updated versions with improved miniatures and rule edits and such, and they want more than the price of a new video game to purchase it. I had the original doom and some of the miniatures were so bad they offered swaps for fixed versions and sent out rule updates after you registered on their site. Some of these shenanigans are really starting to get me. This is why I always go back to games like Hero Quest, Warhammer Quest, and Space Hulk...it was during the time where people gave a shit about their product and poured their hearts into the design.
I know this is an old video Bard, but I would love to see you review Star Saga by Mantic Games. It's a great game and does some things very well, such as having components made for the game unlike this, and the miniatures are pre-assembled so you can play straight out of the box. Plus there's espansions including a character creator. Oh...and it includes a Space Dwarf so it wins there as well.
I personally really like your opinion stacked upon the unboxing premise. You seem like you're a bit of a veteran and would have quite a bit of valuable input. As a viewer I would be fine with you expressing your opinions on a regular basis in a semi review basis!
It's been 3 years since this video and am not kidding in saying that my son wants to watch it every night before going to sleep. The question is if the game itself is any good? My local game store owner says it's great, but he of course is compromised. I'm trying to determine if it would be better to play Shadespire or something else that is a stand alone product, but my 8-year old only wants games you reviewed.😉
You know, I still haven't played it. Every time it comes up, the hands and eyes always wander off toward something else. That said, I believe it is a fine game in its own right; I've certainly heard as much from folk. I've also heard Shadespire is wonderful but I'm not sure it's my kind of thing.
@@BardicBroadcasts unfortunately for my son, he asked if he could borrow it to play it...so now we are using it to learn a little about geography and where your your realm lies. Of course, every time we go to our local store he wants to look at all the miniatures for dwarves he can send you, asking me if I think you would do an unboxing if he sent you some minis. 😉 To be 8-years old, and to have Lego Heroica doors which he places around the house in case Mormons show up. 👍
"I like a cooperative game - especially ones for one player!"
Your videos are sheer brilliance.
Agreed.
The character names and backgrounds are included so you, as the one purchasing the game, have an opportunity to roleplay as a member of the Inquisition, using a big black marker to REDACT all the unnecessary information from the rulebook before the other players have a chance to learn too much.
Of course!

At the very least he'd play an amazing dwarf :)
I’m begging for more content. I found this channel two days ago and it’s literally all I’ve watched since.
Tally ho! I am working on my new video right now (thought its a challenge)!
"The game was created to serve the miniatures"
Yeah like 80% of GW products
I have no interest in any product you have ever unboxed, but I love all your videos!
But... HeroQuest!
Jeffrey Smith I have grown wiser now and have taken an interest in games similar to these. Also hoping to start a DnD campaign soon!

You need to be hired by Game of Thrones to do commentary tracks for each episode.
Like, HBO should pay you for it.
A lot.
You said that five years ago but this honest man's commentary on the final season would have been something to behold.
I really hate when artists aren't credited, like it would kill them for me to want to buy more of their art or something. Insanity!
GW's tendency to not credit any of their artists is a terrible development.

Have you considered making the reviews videos of board games? I totally love your unboxing videos, I would love to see you make a review as well!
Really well done unboxing!
Another fun one! Thanks for the share!!
The miniatures aren't really that well detailed but they ain't bad. The box is cool and the game board is pretty cool looking.
Topnotch writing and editing.
Great unboxing as always! How does anyone contact this talented beardy bard to unbox one's game of joy?
I love this guy!
just brilliant!
Extra baggies, LOL!
Bought the game specifically for this XD
You need to review the Lord of the Rings board game I see on the top shelf!
That was an amazing game!
Subscribed, your content is great 👍
It's been 3 years since this video and am not kidding in saying that my son wants to watch it every night before going to sleep.
Grand! He shall be a fine man one day, placing mighty doors against all weekend intrusion. Tell him I said 'hail!'
This is freaking gold.
