Santa Cruz Bullit Review | 2021 eMTB Shootout
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 бер 2021
- Let’s get the purple elephant out of the closet right here, Santa Cruz charges a premium for their eMTBs and whether or not you or we agree, the fact is market demand, product supply and a number of other factors have made it so. Santa Cruz’s eBikes are definitely on the higher end of the price spectrum and while we wouldn’t say they are the buy for the deal-savvy shopper, we’re happy to report that at least the performance of the Bullit is on point.
Santa Cruz Bullit pricing starts at $7,499 for the R CC build and features SRAM NX level components and then rockets into the stratosphere with the $11,499 X01 Coil CC build tested here. Our size large weighed in at 51.7 pounds and features a Fox Factory 38 fork with 170mm of buttery travel. Out back a RockShox Super Deluxe Coil rear shock performed wonderfully and offered a great ride. The rest of the drivetrain is all SRAM with their XO1 Eagle shifter and derailleur spinning the gears. A set of SRAM Code RSC brakes try their best to keep this beast under control, but we’d love to see a better, more reliable and longer lasting brake chosen for a bike over $11,000.
When our testers stopped thinking about the value proposition and focused on which Enduro eBike they wanted to take home with them, most of us agreed that the Santa Cruz Bullit was the one. It absolutely shreds downhills, is fun to ride, inspires you to push hard, up and down hill, and has a feel that eliminates that “I’m on an eBike” feeling. That being said, if you are on a budget, it’s hard to justify the spec to value scenario and that’s where the Haro Shift comes into the equation. If you are a die-hard Santa Cruz fan, or are lucky enough to have the money budgeted for your next purchase and you want the best performing, downhill-biased, big hit eMTB, the Santa Cruz Bullit gets our vote. Four out of five (non-dentist) testers agree.

great review, I am stunned at the cost along with you guys-so funny. you have to give it props though
Patiently waiting for my Bullit to arrive. Who knows when. Willing to wait for the bronze color.
The only thing stopping me from buying this bike is that $7 grand for an NX build. Marin on the other hand, take my money!
Absolutely love my Bullit
AS you shuold! It's a rad bike.
Try this from a friend. SC absolutely nailed with the geo. Its light for the beast it is and the suspension is tuned with the riders on mind not a linear comfy touring ebike with enduro looks like most of them
Since is a bike that you can exploit for years, not regret or leaving desire you for more i would paid what they ask, hands down
Props to SC for this one.
I agree 100% and feel it's worth the money for the top-spec. Considering the frame, wheels, bearings, pivots, and handlebars are covered for life. Plus, no more bike envy? Done. That's what sold me on, and I am now patiently waiting for delivery.
I love mine . It rips!
That Colour is sooooooo nice
This is the one - 2024 gave the bike an EP801 on all specs - and I like the idea of upgrading to di2 - no more charging derailleur batteries
Nice review - my X01 Bullit arrives next week after 3 months of waiting, excited to say the least!
Congrats and good choice! Hope you enjoy it!
How are you liking it? I'm awaiting my X01 coil Bullit now.
Nice, but too expensive. I like the look of the Marin. That gets the nod from me.
Nice rig..... but $$$$$. My money is on that Marin, I'll hopefully pick one up when they're available in Canada. My upgraded Devinci AC is nice but the numbers on that Marin look spot on. X2 or dpx2 would work well in that Marin to give it more pop.
Agreed a nicer shock upgrade on that thing and it's a killer!
Ya just preordered one this morning. I anticipate I’ll be waiting til spring 2022 before it arrives
Love the reviews but some of the BG music is too loud can’t hear your clear. Thanks
Noted! Thank you.
Huh, what did you say?
Awesome review. Love the channel 🙌🏻 Which bullit build would you personally pick if you ordered one ?
XT
nice
So nice
Dam. I can get two YT Decoy Shreds for the price of this bike. Sure its nice but it better dam well be!!! It should have Di2 electronic shifting for that price...something to justify it's cost other than what its currently offering
The pedal feedback. Is it because its a VPP? VPP is known for being more plush on the tech downhills but with some pedal feedback when pedaling. But I've not heard (or felt myself on my Tracer with VPP) feedback on rocks.
What size rear tire are you running on there? Looks a touch larger than 2.4. Hoping a 2.8 will fit. Have a Bullitt on the way and can't get an answer on max rear tire besides SC @2.6
Why would you want to run more than 2.6“?
I think this is the max a mtb needs in normal terrain.
I also ride 2.6 In sand and snow and it’s fine, as long it’s not super deep.
What do you need that 2.8 for?
You guys should shack up the manufactures. Test the entry level E-bikes. Any asshat can make a top spec bike ride well, how are the bikes in the start of the line rather the end of the line?
SC is the brand you would buy if money wasn’t an issue. Quality bikes no doubt. Too many bikes at better price points and specks for us mere mortals to ignore. It’s a bit like comparing Mercedes with Ford.
I'm in Phoenix, ride south mountain a lot, currently own a v1 Megatower. Looking for an e-bike to get me to the top quicker. I do ride aggressively, this sounds like it might be the one for me. It's between this, the Yeti 160E and the 2023 Orbea Wild.
All are cool bikes…. The new Wild is very good though!! Much newer tech and design compared to other models mentioned.
I have one reserved and going to pick it up tomorrow. Not sure by size though. 180cm tall and L felt small, XL was kind of more to my liking. What do you recommend guys, help me out. This costs a fortune and do not want to make a bad choice on this.
Certainly a tough call when you're making the investment. Base it off your terrain and riding style! More tight/techy narrow and slower stuff? or super steep, high speed and sweeping/open terrain? Hope that helps a little.
I have spent 2020 on difficult trails with 2500km in mountains on 140mm Scott Strike L. Always liked downhill speed with difficult rocky and rooty sections. Was most fun, 140mm is too shaky and unstable. In winter I go to forests as hills are not ride able. This year I will invest in wheelie and manual skills, bike parks and jumping. Core will be enduro / trails though. Pushing my limits off trails. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Easter called...
I would forsure be interested in this bike if their builds weren't so strange. I just want Deore on an entry level, NX sucks and makes upgrading more expensive in the future. I also don't understand the mismatched suspension because they offer Rockshox on the base build, why not offer it on the higher end ones or give us fox shocks. Santa Cruz's build system in general is just awful.
Uh it pains me that SC are SO expensive compared to other bikes.
Currently have a hightower CS kit, and got it at a insane discount, makes it hard to look at their ebikes.
Marin has the best deal going for emtb! Alloy frame and solid component spec. Nobody need carbon with a motor on the bike.
What size Tires did you guys run on the front and back of the Bullit?
2.6 on all of our test bikes
@@TheLoamWolf Right on! Thanks guys great reviews on the ebikes! 😎🤘🏼
What is the maximum rider weight?
Sad, that the Bikes im moast intereseted in are not in the shootout. Merida eOne-Sixty and Forty, Stevens E-Inception, Canyon Spectral ON and Toruqe ON and like last year, sadly no Moustache Samedi Game 10. Seems like the european manufactors dont send the Bikes for testing to the us. I like your style of testing a lot and hope this will change soon.
Will there be a Light-EMTB Shootout, too? With Orbea Rise vs Levo SL, vs some Fazuabike for example?
Hey Florian, we did have the Torque:on and that video is coming out in a couple days. Unfortunately, Canyon wasnt able to get us the Spectral:On in time for the shootout, it showed up a few weeks later. Regarding the other Euro brands, we reached out to many, but do to shipping costs, Covid delays and other extenuating circumstances, some brands (Orbea, Propain, to name a couple) just couldn't get us any bikes.
@@TheLoamWolf thanks for the reply. The e-inception from Steven's is bursting through the tests here in Germany. I'm looking forward for the torque review. Keep on your good work 👍
@@alundra199293 there is a reason that „real Mountainbikers“ dismiss the Stevens and other german brands.
I’m from Germany too and I choose a Santa Cruz Heckler.
That bikes rides just amazing on trails and can take hits and impacts, while still able to satisfy the needs of a touring mob.
The Stevens however is just a bike that is best described as „dad’s comfortable cruiser“.
You can take it for a nice spin with your wife and kids through the forest, but it handles nowhere near like a real Trail/Enduro Ebike!
If you dare to jump that thing more than a meter it’ll bottom out and feel super unstable in the air.
The same goes for the bikes from Rotwild, the older Cubes and Haibike.
Unfortunately most of the German brands haven’t figured out what real Trail/Enduro bikers want and always play it safe and release these bikes with dad geometry and suspension.
Which makes them great Allrounders, but not real Mountainbikes.
The exception from this rule are Canyon, YT(which I’m personally not a fan of but they build good bikes! I had one in 2008) and of course Nicolai (which are in a class of it’s own. They even figured out the weird german preference of „bad geometry“. They offer their Ebike in two different versions, one for real mtb riders and one with a more touring oriented groups, but still capable).
If you want to ride real mtb trails don’t fall for these german brands!
The heads of these companies do the right thing from an economical standpoint, since the German dads want that stupid geo.
But unfortunately they lack all the capabilities for the people who want real riding pleasure.
And yes I rode all the bikes I’m „talking shit“ about, before I happily bought my Heckler!
Pedal feedback? Pedal strikes?
Yes. Not too many. .
On this episode of “this is why I am broke”
It’s full Carbon eMTB, what was the competition with full enduro Carbon eMTB 🤦♀️
I wish I could afford a bike that costs more then £400
Did you guys check to see if eMTBs are allowed on the trails you tested on? Because if the BLM has opened up Zen and Barrel Roll that is great news.
Hey John, we worked with local ambassadors and Greater Zion tourism department to ensure we were being courteous and respectful.
@@TheLoamWolf that is a really weird response. Are you saying that the trails in question are NOT open to eBIkes generally but someone other than the BLM gave permission to you? I'm all for eBikes on those trails, I just thought they hadn't opened up yet.
Trump made class 1 ebikes legal on any federal bike legal trails. Not sure where this was shot but if it's federal land or a national park then class 1 ebikes are legal on trails wherever regular bikes are legal.
@@Grifterbiden That isn't true on several levels. BLM is still up to local managers. They can open trails up (they are clearly on Zen and Barrel Roll which are BLM trails) but my understanding is that the Color Country office hasn't done so. Also as the USFS is part of the Dept of Ag instead of Interior it isn't even part of that change, so simply claiming that "federal" trails are open is not accurate as many (most?) are on USFS land.
Again, I would like to eBike and ride with eBikers on the St George area BLM trails. If it is OK then I am there.
Your reviews are good but the music is annoying. Not just the background but the heavy metal intros too. Dump the tunes.
What's wrong with Santa Cruz, haven't they got a $25,000.oo bike yet?!? I'm getting tired of waiting.
11,5 k for a bike and mismatch fork and schock? LOL !
At this price it should have a x2 factory to match.
