Montana crackle effect 🤩 Mate, you've made a super cool vise 👏👏👏👏👏👏 will be part of your restoration studio for new videos Can't wait to see it in real action
Ok I have to start with the design of the vise I love the fact it has the bolts separate and outside the jaws. It is a real difference to the vises here in the US, much more distinctive. That being said your work is spectacular as well! Great video.
Thank you for watching. DAWN is a reputable brand over here in Australia. They do have other model with screws inside the jaws too. Really appreciate your kind comments 🙏 👩🏻🔧
Fantastic restoration mate. We are getting fancy with the paint effects aren’t we? 😁 I saw the two tone and thought that was pretty good and then you sprayed the black and I said “WTF”. That crackled effect is next level pal. Loved your little helpers.
Haha Thanks mate- When I was experimenting with the Crackle it was a bit of a hit and miss as slight changes was giving me different outcomes. So had my fingers crossed that it would work on the vice 🤞 Little helpers always ready to get their hands dirty 😉😁
A few things, I love your videos you put a unique spin on restorations you show how they should be which is fun. The title was very clever. The little hands popping up make me giggle and I'm glad you found a way to enjoy your hobby and spend time with your kids. my boys are young adults now but I still have them at home and they still help in the shop ( it's good having some extra muscle around) and have learned useful skills. That vise was in crazy good condition what an awesome find. Amazing restoration and I hope you were wearing your brown pants when your cabinet blew. thanks for sharing that restoration with everyone. would love to see you let the little ones go picking and do their own little project. Kinda curious to see what they would pick and the ideas they have. I did this when mine were little it's really fun because they don't have that influence of what everyone else thinks they should do.
Big Thank You my friend for taking the time to watch and write such a great comment. It gives me immense pleasure to have people like you appreciate what I do. It's something very hard to juggle restorations with kids, family life and everything else. Hopefully as they get a bit older they might start doing little projects of their own 😉👍👩🏻🔧
Wow love the paint job 👍 very unique. I couldn't work out what was going on with the different shades of blue, I thought it was my eyes at first. When you hit it with the black paint I didn't know what was going out. I liked how you skipped the assembly or that would have given it away. Well done and a great job grinding it back, I bet that took some time.
Was trying to do something a little fancy instead of just of a plain old original red. Don't think anyone has attempted this technique on a vice before 😁. Puts a smile on my face every time I see it but not sure how the Dawn lovers would react 🤣
@@LittleRestorers I appreciate it! I think your kids would love helping you paint something using that technique...its like magic..and a lot of fun! 😊👍
Now the finish is my kinda look...love it nice job...enjoyed every bit of the segment...what happen to the blast box...too much inner vacuum pressure??? that's why they use plastic / with tear-away film... a great project...
Thanks Uncle, I knew you'd like that one 😉. With the sandblaster, yes, the pressure inflated the gloves which projected the gun against the glass and everything just got sucked it... just a combination of everything that could go wrong 🤣👩🏻🔧.
Nice paint! You'll have to do a trike with the cracked effect. I did 2 mountain bikes with a similar effect. One with electric blue under the black & the other hammer tone gunmetal grey under black. Had to do a few test runs with the hammer tone before I was happy with it before spraying the frame. Time to experiment!
@@LittleRestorers Haters will always be haters! 🤣🤣 That would be a sight! Go on, you know you want to! (now I've planted another seed! 🤣🤣) I copped some flack from a few for the bikes. One was a Repco, the other a Giant. Best compliment was a brother of a hater wanted to buy the Giant as soon as he saw it. He loved the hammer tone under the cracked black. Eventually, I did sell it to him. Made an offer only a madman would reject! The other was a gift.
@@LittleRestorers A channel you might like to look at: Duncan Custom Airbrush. His descriptions are hilarious, yet very detailed. Might want to stick your head in one of your vices, before you watch, to contain your (soon to be) exploding melon! 🤣🤣
At least those screws broke off in the jaws and you were able to get them out. Some manufacturers had the screws going into the vice, with unfortunate results. I suspect Dawn threaded the jaws for that reason. I have a 5SP probably from the 1960s that needs cleaning up and painting. Cheers.
Thanks for watching- I know the pain of trying to get those stuck screws out. I have done a 5SP as well ( my most recent vice video) Went with a Chameleon paint on that one. Check it out also 😉👍
@@LittleRestorers Hi, I've only just got my 5SP, so whilst it is waiting for a restoration, I'll put RP-7 on the screws and leave it to penetrate the threads. It was an impromptu purchase, because you have to purchase when you see one, in a salvage yard. This one has no scars from hacksaws or welding, even the knurled jaws are still quite sharp and prominent. It hasn't been abused in any way. It just needs cleaning up. Other selling points, it is made of steel and the isn't bent, so no one had used an extension on it. I've seen your 4SP video. That turned out nicely. 👍
Hi , thanks for watching. I suppose I could as long as you in Australia 😉 You can message me on Instagram / facebook or my email is also in the About section. Cheers.
I have the same vice, but one thing has stumped me. How did you get the new split pin in, the length of it is longer than the width of the vice, as you turn the spindle the pin touches the sides. I was thinking shortening the split pin but it may not be able to fold back to hold the washer/spring? I may have to use an aluminium pin as the steel pin is difficult to fold back
From memory, I think I just forced turn the spindle, so it crushed the splip pin to one side. Then, opened the other leg the opposite way. Think on another vice , I had to cut the pin length. What I would say is ,yeah, the steel pin will hit and scratch the sides but you should be able to get it to fold under 1 turn. Personally, I wouldn't trust an aluminium pin to handle the pressure over time. 👍
Unusual finish, but not unlikable... I beat up on my vice so bad that such a finish wouldn't last very long. Thumbs Up! I hope your daughter doesn't have any pets... lol
Thanks for watching, I appreciate the comment. Yes it does have a 2k type of clear coat on but that might still not be durable enough for some types of uses. No kids not allowed to have pets until they responsible enough 🤣👍👩🏻🔧
