Dude. I learned more from you in these minutes than I have in years when I was twenty learning and discouraged that I stopped playing. I just started playing again a couple months ago and you have inspired me again. Thank you.
As a beginner strumming has been challenging. A lot of good information that I didn’t know before here. As always you break it down so it’s easy to understand.
Great video for beginners. I disagree with curling your fingers in almost making a fist, I think that's a bit robotic. I will be watching my favourite guitarists to see what they do with their right hand. Thanks for the video, you have a great teaching style. ♥️
I have always used the Kirk Hammett signature guitar pick. I really like it. It’s small and not floppy. I would recommend it esp for a woman (like me) who has smaller hands. I have never dropped it in the acoustic hole.
I started playing during Covid, when the guitar stores were closed. For a pick, I used a plastic bread bag closer. Once the stores reopened, my strumming improved greatly.
Is a Flamenco tutorial possible? I'm not nearly good enough to play/learn that stuff but it would be really nice to watch anyway 😄 For me it's the ultimate goal
When I played with a pick it amazed me how often the pick would fling into the sound hole. Of course, then you have to turn the guitar upside down tilting and shaking it above your head as you coax it out. Lol. I can’t use a pick much anymore as it aggravates my tendinitis. Strumming patterns are pretty natural for me. I can hear it and anticipate the patterns pretty well. My struggle is bar chords. I could do them well when I was young, especially on my telecaster, but I don’t have it anymore, just my Takamine acoustic and bar chords are not pretty these days. That’s okay, I work around them and still enjoy playing!
We all have our guitar playing limitations for one reason or another. To "work around" them is fine. Just don't let the one way people like Andres Segovia see you, but who cares what they think. It's about playing and having fun. Maybe this could help you as it has helped me: lighter gauge strings make it easier to play. I use Martin Extra Light M170 strings on my acoustic guitar and PRS 9's on my PRS SE Custom 24-08 electric guitar. You can even go with 8's on your electric guitar strings. It's much easier to play with those lighter gauge strings, and they sound really good. Back in the '70's, Jimmy Page used to string his Les Paul's with 8's. I also use a finger exercise kit (Meideal MFX5) to develop strength in my finger tips. 🎸🎸🎸
@@MusicLover-sb7mo Sure, you're welcome, M.L. Yes, it is possible that you may need to adjust your action if you have heavier gauge strings on your guitar. After I installed the Martin M170's on my acoustic guitar, I had to adjust the truss rod due to the lesser tension on the guitar neck. My PRS came with 9's, so I didn't need to adjust anything there. If you wish to go with the lighter strings, and you don't work on your guitars yourself, I recommend taking them to a good luthier to get them set-up the way you like it with the lighter strings. By the way, if you like a bright and warm sound and durable strings, you'll be happy with the Martin M170's.
Thanks bro! I do tend to get aggressive due to being excited. I do notice it during recordings. I just need to learn how to be consistent. Thanks!💪😎👍🎶🎶🎶
Cheers, Lee, I hope you're enjoying the holiday season as much as I enjoy your videos. This is definitely one of the toughest parts or learning guitar. Though I can play with a pick, I prefer more comfortable strumming with my right thumb (down) and right index finger (up). Don't need to worry about dropping or losing a pick, and I don't get the scraping sound of the pick across the strings (bugs me). Getting good strumming rhythm is something that requires work. It's so satisfying when it comes together, but I'm still working on it. Someday I hope that I can make it look as effortless as you do. 👍💖🎸😎
I've been playing for years and still hate using a pick cause I can't hang on to the damn thing. As soon as my hands or fingers are somewhat dry it moves all over the place. I've even tried the picks with a bit of a grip to them but I don't like the way they sound. Thanks for the video.
Lee,Thanks for the post , I would like to request for " Hey you " pink Floyd's tutorial please 😊 Merry Christmas and happy holidays inadvance ! 🙏 Best regards to all from @ushaak

It's a never ending endeavor! Perfection kind doesn't exist.

As an intermediate guitar player, it helped remind me of things I forgot to be aware of. Thanks for your video!
Lots of great ideas. As a beginner, my playing didn't improve much until I realized just how important that strumming hand is.

Good idea, necessity is the mother of invention for sure. 👍👍👍
started playing during Covid..... used a plastic bread bag closer. Yup exact same here.... lol thats funny.
@@MrWolfheart111 that’s very funny.

Can you make a video on ‘your decision’ by Alice in Chains
Have always used my thumb for strumming. I love the idea of starting to learn to use a pic however my wife doesn't 😬
😆👍
I use cardboard as a pic when they down grounded i cut another more softer than plastic .
there is no one who taught as much as this guy
🙏
using pick to strum the guitar comes natural to the player...
