You two should have your own talk show. Half the time I don’t even care about the whiskey, I just like hearing the banter and new terminologies “power ;) lol 😂
I have to say it again, you two have incredible chemistry that is so enjoyable to watch. I would love to see a video of Jimmy Russell watching this review or some of the others where you review his bottles. I am absolutely sure that it would be heartwarming to him
Just killed a 10-year-old bottle of Russell's Reserve Private Selection last night that I originally got in 2022, and man, it just kept getting better and better as I drank it over the last few weeks. Not sure if it was a Camp Nelson or not - label just said Rickhouse A. I know that Russell's 13 has been divisive, but I can't find it for less than $350 in my area, so I'm not dropping that kind of cash when I can get slightly younger, but equally great bottles.
Fantastic video y’all! This confirms my thoughts on that RR pick as I got the same results when blinding these two. Believe it or not, that CN-A pick came from total wine last year and was an absolute banger! Wish I had another one. Cheers y’all!
Black Forest Cake is very cherry, as well as a ton of whipped cream all around it. It doesn't really have the raspberry part. If you want that, there is a Vienese dessert called Sachertorte that is dark cocolate and flavored with raspberry. Invented at the Sacher Hotel in Vienna. Since I live next to the M&M factory - the "midnight" is the dark Milk Way. There have been some special editions of Snickers with dark chocolate, like Rockin Nut Road. But it's not a regular product.
Our area has stopped getting barrel picks of RR Single Barrel once the RR13 was released. I am uncertain if these are related, but there were multiple barrel picks at different area stores for years, and now nothing. And they were incredible values for their price.
I got my RR13 for $135, I would buy it again for that. I've been a huge fan of RR single barrels for years, both the bourbon and the rye. I've got 2 of each at the moment and paid $66 on average which I consider excellent value. Now if you want an overpriced Turkey, it has to be the single rick house Camp Nelson F which I spent $405 for. Must have been one of those FOMO moments.
2:54 I love the smell of Russell's Reserve 13 year in the morning! Smells like...power! [with apologies to the *Apocalypse Now* screenwriter 😂] 4:23 For me, nuttiness is exactly that. Evan Williams BiB gives me a definite smell of peanut shells on the nose. George Dickel No. 12 has a distinct pecan flavor on the palate. For me it's not that the whisky is sweet or unsweet, but that the aromas or flavors are there.
I got my RR 13 at retail which was $70. I'd pay that every time. Now that it's $150, I'd probably still buy it, but I wouldn't pay more. The RR Single barrels are $90 here now, and I just am not really interested in them at that price. For me at least RR 13 (I have batch 2) hit the perfect balance between the regular RR and the 15. I found the 15 went to oaky and dark for my palate. Wild turkey has really turned me off on their pricing. I'm now seeing the Masters keep sitting on shelves at retail, so I'm not the only one.
Worth its weight in salt. Salt is cheap. Therefore its a bad slang for something or someone. From my understanding anyways. Thanks for the review. I really enjoy these double blind videos. Congrats again on the awesome job everyone did on the benefit. Its gonna help many people. Thank y'all 🎉
Totally my opinion: I like the single barrel or the private selection, but it’s not enough for me to spend $90 from what I’ve bought it at to compete with Rare Breed, which competes with this to me. If you’re gonna spend on the 13 year I’d just save up for the 15 year which is leagues ahead of the 13 year.
I was just talking about this on my WoW stream Saturday night. Had the RR13 for the first time, and said the RR store pick that I have is flat out better. I even went as far as saying the RR13 isn't worth MSRP, and certainly isn't worth secondary.
RR picks used to be outstanding. Now they are good and vary a whole lot more barrel to barrel. And stores are selling them for 100 bucks. Give me Disco 11 (73% 13 yr Turkey) for 130 bucks over either of these.
Worth your weight in salt goes back to the civil war. Salt had such value that often prisoners of war were exchanged for an equal amount of salt by weight. Thus worth your weight in salt.
I do that more in the single samples and less in the head-to-heads. Kinda depends for the conversation is flowing and I didn’t even think about it in this one. I’d have been right at that $80-100 price point on both.
I normally roll with Erin when it comes to grammar, usage, and pronunciation, but in this case, at least Oklahoma and Texas and other regions have your back on assault, Josh.
Plenty of other channels out there if you don’t like our style, but we’re certainly not changing who we are for anyone-especially rude people like you.

Back in Roman times the soldiers were paid in salt, as it was a spice and useful in food preservation. That's the origin of the phrase

I like russels single barrel more than the 13 too. It's so good at 9 years. However.. that 15 year is on another level.

Yeah I’m team RR15! That pour is incredible!

I’ve never had RR13 but thank you, I’ll keep the money for 2 of the store picks like y’all said!
Nice review! I really enjoy both batches of my RR 13yrs(115.00 each) but I have a Russell’s single barrel pick(75.00)that’s awesome! Cheers!

I love that Russell's Reserve Single Barrel! Great show as always! Cheers!
Your timing is great! I was about to head out for some hunting!
Great comparison. Tricky though, with a batched product vs a single barrel. The 13 batches vary some and the PBSs really vary.
Loved last year's Rus 13. Only had pour wished had bottle.
Had a chance to enjoy a RR blind including 15,13 ( batch 4), SR CNF, SR CNC, and 5 RR picks. For me SR CNF was #1 for 8 others on scores 13 was #1

Didn't think we'd be opening with mucus membrane this morning. :D
😂😂
I’ve only ever seen the Russell’s SB in the wild. If I see another I’m definitely getting it. It’s a killer at $70

The Sierra Mist comment almost made me spit out my food!😂

Salt is cheap *now.* But there was a time when it was hard to get, and consequently expensive.
Y’all are in Nashville? We are up in Gallatin!
Hey neighbor!

Full agreement here. It was only worth MSRP at its original $70 price tag in our book.
SiB's are always good but some are just unicorns! RR13 is never sub 200. But I want both, regardless.

Yup disco 11
I have a bottle of 13 general drink for 10 because of the price difference I don't feel I'm missing out on that much
They are making chocolate covered paydays now, a weakness of mine
LOL the humor .😂
Love you guys
That was fun!
Nutty makes me think peanut butter... Tbh & while I love peanut butter - I don't necessarily like it in my drinks.. 😮

Yes
Josh didn't guess the prices this time before The Reveal.

I think you were thinking of Turtles, not pralines
Too oaky is not a thing….you want that in old whiskey
Sounds like Erin needs to blend the two together
smells like a dishwasher tablet...but then says that's not good or bad.
How can that not be bad?
You don't appreciate a clean citrus smell, we take it?
I haven't spent a penny on it
I normally roll with Erin when it comes to grammar, usage, and pronunciation, but in this case, at least Oklahoma and Texas and other regions have your back on assault, Josh.
California calls it a-salt-ted
My man. 👊
You are not amusing. Taste the booze and give us your opinion.
