  • Though they aren't supposed to be here, the Northern Snakehead is one of my favorite fish to target. They're smart, aggressive, taste great, and you can catch them on a frog. This video shows about 1/4 of the fish catches from that day. I'm going to hold off on posting the rest of the footage until the fishing slows down some!

    I’m interested in possibly buying some snakehead depending on what you need for it if you go out again. I live in Spotsylvania Va.

    Found this on Facebook, I know people say to use the landmarks but I am not familiar with the rappahanock any further downstream past Fredericksburg city docks! How far downstream of Fredericksburg do you have to go to catch snakehead?

      I've caught them anywhere from Little Falls all the way past Port Royal and I know they live FAR beyond Port Royal. Big ones especially.

      @@nolanminor6761 any idea how far down the rap they have spread? Thanks for the reply.

      I did not think they caught them anywhere above the fall line in Fredericksburg. I regularly fish above the I-95 bridge and live on the upper river and I have never seen a snakehead. Could be wrong… This location appears to be a creek well below the fall line.

    Your about the only angler I have seen targeting snakheads without braid. What line do you have spooled on your reels?

      On the spinning rod I fish 12lb fluoro leaders. Never had a breakoff. Only reason I use braid for snakeheads is when I'm using a frog, they are very smart fish so I like using fluoro whenever possible. Their teeth don't really cut through line, and if they did, braid would be the worst thing to use.

      @@nolanminor6761 awesome great response brother. I never really targeted them. But even targeting bass most people use braid on topwater. Its nice to see Im not the only one that stepped out of the box... keep up the great job👍👏👊🏻

      @@FlatOutBankAngling Snakehead fishing is super cool to me because they're very new compared to all of our other gamefish that have been targeted for 50+ years, so there is a lot about snakehead fishing that we don't know yet

      @@nolanminor6761 Absolutely brother... there isnt much information out there at all about the species. Thats what pisses me off about people. They think they know it all because some incomplete report on the species. Are you Subscribed to Baltimore Angling? (Sorry Im not 100% sure thats the name of his channel). He has some really good information about snakeheads. Check him out.... if you search snakehead fishing you will find him easily.

    I didn't think you were supposed to release them

    • @nolanminor6761
      @nolanminor6761  2 роки тому +6

      You can release them, it's just not legal to possess them live. So your options are to release right away, or kill it right away if you plan to keep it. They are here to stay so I don't see any use in killing any that I don't plan on keeping, especially when we have common carp and blue cats running around doing way more damage than mr snake.
