Just wanted to add that after this, interpretations do start to splinter, but imo the girls are trapped in the nightmare until the ghost hunter from Chase Me appears, finds them, and they use his book to reverse the trap and escape... And then the next video picks up

The instrumental at the end is actually part of the album intro. They have dope instrumental intros for all their albums. Also, the simplest way to explain this story is that Jiu caught the spider and Yoohyeon killed it. The spider is actually a Spider Queen woman, and as revenge, she trapped them in the nightmare world.

To add just a bit to it. When they change from the one outfit to the blue outfits is when the curse takes them over (I believe). With only JiU holding on to herself long enough to close the gate to keep all of them members trapped inside so they can't spread the curse.

Yes this MV was recorded in France, the first scene at Etretat, and all the MV in the "Chateau de Janvry" in south of Paris

You are correct. It's France. The roof of the building gives it away in its architecture.

I hate to break it to you but it's France. I never thought two Brits wouldn't recognize the Normandy coast or a French chateau. I'll just pretend it never happened😁
So much in this one, too much really. Butterflies are a symbol of the human soul in China and Korea. The butterflies burned when Yoo burned the spider. Jiu and all the girls lost their souls because Yoo killed an innocent creature, a terrible crime according to Buddhist tradition and a very dangerous thing to do in Korean Shamanism, the tradition that predates the arrival of Buddhism in Korea. Shamanism, like Japanese Shinto and Greek mythology, sees the world as filled with supernatural beings associated with Nature. Animals and even plants (Greek dryads) have guardian spirits. Killing the little spider angered the guardian of spider kind (the veiled figure in the attic, it was her tattooed hand you see covering Gahyeon's eyes) so she removed their souls and cursed them to forever walk the earth as spirits of nightmare. Why curse all of them for the actions of one? Dami found the spellbook from Good Night in the school library (they're wearing school uniforms and the chateau is a boarding school, but had been something much darker in the past, something like the Hellfire Club in 18th century England), and the girls formed a coven to experiment with the dark magic in the book, so they were all tainted by evil symbolized by the black goop coming out of the mirror and into Yoo. She was taken to the dark side first which manifested itself by her burning the spider with a magnifying glass. All the sequences with the girls in nightclothes were dreams they were having. The spider queen controls the world of dreams.
At the end Jiu, the strongest of them, runs to shut the gates to keep them from escaping into the world to plague mortals. Later the chateau becomes a hotel and that's when Chase Me begins. The actions of the ghost hunter in Good Night allow the girls to escape into the world. There's more, but this is already TMI.
The spider protector goddess of the Ojibwe people, the North American tribe who invented the dreamcatcher, was named Asibikaashi. She was the protector of the very young, but since since she couldn't be everywhere at once she gave the people the dreamcatcher to keep evil dreams and bad spirits away from the babies.

For a creepy easter egg that took me a couple of times watching this video to see. In the scene where Handong is throwing the black paper plane out the window, look down at the bottom floor window. Also, several ancient mythologies (including Japanese) equate butterflies to the soul. Also to rebirth (maybe signifying their rebirth into the nightmare world)

"Fly High" is probably the poppiest of the Nightmare arc. It was not done by their usual production team as well. But it makes sense, since this is a prequel, so bringing in a bit of the Minx sound makes sense to me. There are really heavy parts in it as well, which clearly state that they are not Minx anymore. And I love the dark parts thrown in, they really make the song special. The light part sung by SuA after the metal break is in major, while the rest of the song is in minor. That is why it stands out so much. They did the same in Good Night, but a lot shorter.
About the MV: You can see Yoohyeon burning the spider, which brought the curse of the spider queen down on the members. You will see the spider queen again in You and I. In Native American mythology, spiders are considered protectors, that is why a Dreamcatcher resembles a spider's net. That is a brilliant connection to their name! 😊

Because this is a prequel, the main parts of the song are brighter, their outfits are more girlish and even the choreo is simpler, to evoke the feeling of innocence. However, amongst all of this are the stabs of darkness, including a "whacking" dance break with the heavier music.
Everything is considered and most things have meaning.

Loving your DC reactions! Sorry in advance for the essay.. Fly High has become one of my favourite Dreamcatcher songs and MV over the last few years.
As you know already Fly High is essentially the prequel to the storyline in their Nightmare series. The general theory is that they were seven normal happy girls (my guess is that they were away at a boarding school - filmed in France!), and they become cursed during their time in the mansion. Jiu sees the spider and captures it (maybe out of curiosity?) and weird things start to happen to all the girls (Dami finds a library with old/weird books like look like witchy/cult spellbooks, Siyeon and Sua are lured into the surrounding forest and come back with dark cloaks, Gahyeon is visited by a mysterious woman and overcome with plants growing on her, Jiu sees visions of someone who looks like her twin in the mansion, Handong looks like she was maybe attacked in the bath, and Yoohyeon comes across a weird mirror thing which looks dark and scary and goopy, and after she touches it she seems like darkness overtakes her). Yoohyeon then kills the spider (unclear as to why, maybe again due to curiosity, or maybe the curse had already kicked off making her to do it) and the girls become cursed/haunted and turn into “nightmares” (where, later in the future, they terrorise the ghost hunter man in Chase Me and Good Night .. their old mansion home ends up being the hotel). It basically shows how they were overcome with the curse of the spider. Jiu is shown at the end of the MV closing the gate to the mansion, maybe in an attempt to keep the curse inside and to protect the outside world, or maybe it’s her cursed self taking over and trapping the girls inside. I think it’s up to interpretation. Yoohyeon does seem to be one of the members who is central to the Nightmare series.
We also get hints of imagery/themes that we see in later MVs (not just in the Nightmare series, but in the newer songs too)… twins/doppelgängers, good/evil, blue/red as colours used in contrast, different worlds coexisting (earth and another dimension whether it be a world of nightmares or another timeline, heaven/hell, earth/the underworld), mirrors and doors as portals, books, butterflies, tarot cards, dolls, crowns, seals, spiders etc.). Not sure that these things allude to any specific meaning or storyline but you end up getting a sense of what has inspired the creative team at DCC.
The song is very bright, but with the imagery in the MV becoming darker as it goes on, I think it’s actually kind of haunting and melancholy. All the MVs after show in abstract ways how the curse causes havoc in their lives (or as their nightmare/spirit/ghost/witch and/or alternate selves). I think the previews/official teaser for Fly High on the HappyFace channel was really well done.. totally sets the sad and creepy mood for the Fly High MV and what’s to come later on.

    dreamcatcher \:D/
the visual imagery as well as the musical composition is also part of the story telling as the metal stabs(dami's bits) foreshadow the impending darkness. 'fly high' simply refers to being successful and how everyone strives for it to the point of being fake as in the lyrics. as mentioned, a central recurring theme in dreamcatcher's lyrics is to never give up on your dreams but more importantly maintain your identity in its pursuit. in fly high, the visual imagery shows one of them fallen to the dark side. you can see yoohyeon looking at herself in the mirror and seeing darkness represented by the black goo spread. later she kills a spider which you can see in the next mv 'you and I' causes a chain reaction.
the nightmare series is a reflection of themselves how they had to 'fake it' during their pre-dreamcatcher minx days by doing what every girl group in kpop did with the cute bubblegum concept. this was the 'nightmare' the series is about, being trapped in situations where you feel hopeless and losing yourself. one of their album titles is actually 'fall asleep in the mirror' which has obvious symbolism. the waning minx days were actually a very dark period for several members which is why a lot of dreamcatcher songs appear dark but actually have very uplifting messages.

Just to reiterate what I said on your Good Night reaction; Most of the finer details of the story are left purposefully vague. This allows the people watching the MV's to theorize, discuss and generally drive themselves nut trying to figure out what's going on.
    With that being said...
Here's some key bits of information concerning the story so far. Like Dreamcatcher, I won't go too deep into the details here, for much the same reason. Most of this is commonly accepted by the fandom to be 'true' in the story but some of it is based solely on my own theories and theories that I have -stolen- borrowed from other peoples' theories.
    Fly High
Location: The music video was filmed at Château de Janvry, which is located in Paris, France.
The premise: A group of South Korean school girls attending boarding school abroad run afoul of an evil entity and end up getting cursed.
*JiU captures a spider and decides to keep him in a jar as a pet. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.
*This triggers 'The Curse of the Spider' and starts the process of turning our girls into Nightmares and traps them in the Dreamworld / Nightmare Realm. Not quite ghosts, not quite witches, but entities trapped between reality and the Dreamworld that have the ability to invade peoples' dreams.
    * Shortly after we see the tattooed hand cover Gahyeon's face as she lays in her bed, making her the first victim of the curse. I assume the hand belongs to the cobweb covered woman in the attic. I call her simply 'The Lady'. Her connection to the spider is left up to you.
*At one point in the MV Yoohyeon tries to escape, suddenly stops and is drawn back to the school where she kills the spider by burning it with a magnifying glass. This makes Yoohyeon a specific target of The Lady. More on this in future MV's.
*JiU sees herself playing the piano. How? Who knows. Again, the details are up to the viewer. This is her first sign that something is seriously wrong.
*Knowing evil is afoot, she races out of the building and closes the gate, trapping all the girls, and the curse, within.
    Chase Me
Location: The same Chateau / boarding school as above, only this time it has been magically moved to a sound stage in South Korea.
Premise: Some years later the boarding school has been turned into a hotel.
*Our girls have been trapped on the property ever since JiU closed the gates, haunting the place and giving the guests nightmares.
*Enter the hero (or villain, depending on how you look at it) in the form of a paranormal investigator (aka The Axe Man), played by Jo Dong Hyuk.
*The investigator discovers the perpetually locked room 808.
*While he is investigating, our girls enter his dreams, give him nightmare and, in general, just royally mess with his head.
*At one point we see Yoohyeon replacing all the room number with the number 808, permanently locking them as well.
*Frustrated, the investigator takes matters, and an axe, into his own hands and bashes down the door to room 808 where he finds the girls' inner sanctum.
    Good Night
Location and premise is the same as above.
*After entering room 808, the investigator continues his investigation. Therein he finds "The Book" (which is actually 2 books, the Book of Nightmares, as I call it, and a book of spells Dami found in the Fly High MV).
*While leafing through the Book of Nightmares he triggers some of the girls' worst fears, such as Gahyeon's fear of falling and SuA's fear of being restrained.
*Dami reaches through a mirror and takes the book back.
*By burning pages from the book, SuA and Gahyeon are freed from their nightmares.
*Our girls use the spells in the book to trap the investigator in the mirror and escape the confines of the hotel.
And here are. Our favorite group of Nightmares have been freed from their prison and are free to roam the world.

I copy my comment that I have originally posted elsewhere so the context might mismatch but the message should be clear:
Ok, a little in depth explanation of the storyline.
The nightmare arc in nutshell is about 7 witches taken over by their evil psyche counterparts due to the curse of the spider, eventually turning them into nightmares hunted by nightmare hunters (analogy - ghost hunter) Their goal is breaking free of the nightmare, breaking the curse and reunite. The order of the title tracks: (in order of release)
    Chase Me
    Good Night
Fly High (Prequel! to the story)
    You and I
    What
    Piri
+Breaking out (Alternate ending, Japanese title track)
In Fly high you will see the beginning when they are not yet nightmares (but already young witches part of the same coven) and alive but they trap a spider and Yoohyeon tortures it unleashing a curse that will first take over JiU although at that point she does not know that she is (her evil counterpart) the source of the corruption that is coming. We will only see a girl in veil and only in Piri it is revealed that that the one under the veil is actually JiU's counterpart (evil JiU). In Fly high one by one they fall victim of the course and as a last resort JiU shuts down the mansion and locks away their photos that anchors them (as nightmares) to the physical world.
In Chase Me they are already nightmares when the nightmare hunter comes to the mansion. His goal is the get the anchors so that he can trap the nightmares while they try all sorts of things to make his life an actual nightmare while hiding the location of the pictures that is hidden in room 808. So on one hand they haunt the poor guy as much as possible while they conceal all rooms as 808 so that his job is harder until the hunter actually spots them entering the room he is looking for, so he grabs an axe, gets the pictures and traps them.
In Good Night they are trapped in the Dreamworld by the hunter guy, each of them in her own special nightmare. Note: If you check it on KProfile you will see that each Dreamcatcher member represents a nightmare throughout the Nightmare storyline. As an example, SuA's corresponding nightmare is the Fear of restraint, that is why you see her being restrained. You also see the grimoire containing the spell that was used the restrain her by the hunter. But somehow you see that three of them manage to get together to perform a ritual allowing them to reach out from the Dreamworld and obtain the grimoire through a mirror that was left carelessly there by the hunter as a mistake. (note: mirrors in the storyline are almost always portals between two worlds or connections between the evil counterparts.). Now with the grimoire they can finally break the spells freeing all members. The video shows how they burn the spell page that restrains SuA countering the spell and we see her restrains in flames so she can also break free. Now when they are all free of their own nightmares they wreak havoc on the poor guy, they break his Dreamcatcher that was protecting him from the nightmares and finally they break free of the Dreamwold while trapping the now defenseless guy instead there and leave the place.
Unfortunately they lose the Grimoire so when Yoohyeon is captured by the spider queen responsible for the original course in You and I they will not be able to free her for a very long time. (They are looking for her throughout the entire "what" but with no success. But this is for later videos :D
