    "Chase me" was their debut, released on January 13th (a Friday), 2017. It must have been nerve-wrecking for the members, re-debuting with a genre that is not popular in Korea after Minx failed. (5 of them were Minx before.) But they already doubled their sales with this. And they stuck with the Rock/Metal vibe until today, now selling 50 times the albums than Minx did.
    This is the start of the Nightmare arc, which spans 6 MVs and 1 Japanese release. They are Nightmares here, and the Nightmare hunter is trying to dispel them - how that turns out is shown in the next one, Good Night.
    Remember the ending here for when you react to Good Night!

    Thank you for your emotional response to “Chase Me”. That was Dreamcatcher's debut on Friday, January 13th, 2017. Now - on November 22nd, 2023, Dreamcatcher will celebrate their comeback with the 9th mini-album. They have matured and become incredibly good live. You can be excited.

    Rolling Quartz - Dreamcatcher - Pink Fantasy These three teams are definitely different teams,
    With the song and the concept, these three teams are linked by accident.
    If you like Dreamcatcher, enjoy rolling quartz and pink fantasy.
    Rolling Quartz - Good Night, Azalea
    Pink Fantasy - Poison

    As far as being a little creepy the next song is on chase me’s level. From that point on the songs don’t really bring in any “horror.” Piri might be on Chase Me’s level. There is never anything shocking or gory in any of their songs. Nothing to worry about as far as eyes are concerned. And all of the songs are really great.
    The girls are the nightmares and the third song “flying high” is the prequel as to how they became to be nightmares. It’s really difficult to understand the story on first watch so I’m sure you will get a lot of input from dreamcatcher fans explaining the story as you enjoy the mvs.

    You did well choosing Chase Me, their actual debut as Dreamcatcher. Weird people will tell you to watch Fly High first but the proper order of the nightmare series is Chase Me -> Good Night -> Fly High -> You and I -> What -> Piri. Fly High is a prequel and their 3rd title track (the album is literally called Prequel). As for warnings, there is no other eye stuff but there are some very mild spider scenes and doll scenes. I'll leave out which tracks they appear in to avoid spoilers.

      I believe the promotional teaser for Full Moon establishes the lore and why the investigator is chasing them, Welcome To The Dream World shows how the girls treated the investigator, and even BEcause is part of the Nightmare Series.

      @@thenewthefarns You're taking things a bit far and maybe reading into some things that don't have the correlation you think they do. BEcause is not part of the nightmare series. Dreamcatcher even outright talk about how the song is about obsessive love which is a completely different theme. The video itself is directly inspired by Us and any similarities to the nightmare series are strictly coincidental, of which I can only think of one (a mirror). It's pretty standardized at this point that the nightmare series is 6 songs with the possibility of Breaking Out being an alternate ending.

    • @DennisKent
      @DennisKent Рік тому +2

      @InSomnia_catcher Yeah I get that, but it's a bit silly. That's like taking a movie series and watching the prequel first just for chronology. I could see watching them in that order as a 2nd viewing though.

    The song lyrics do have a secondary meaning. If you recall from the guide, Dreamcatcher is formed from a failed group called Minx and Minx's music was based on a cutesy bright concept. But as it is the norm in the Korean music scene (even now), Minx did not take off due to competition in the market due to it being saturated with girl groups doing the same thing and they could not stand out against the bigger groups or groups back by companies with much larger marketing resources (it has to be note that their company while not unknown, but is still relatively small).
    Hence, the lyrics of Chase Me also alludes to doing something different where the industry norm, i.e. are "empty people's dreams"which are "boring", and hence, they want "something thrilling", and "gonna do something outrageous" so that "the quiet world is going to get a lot of noise". With Chase Me as their debut song, instead of them chasing after fads and trends, they are not setting their own trend with their music and asking the general public to chase them and follow up instead, and they will get 'seven different little presents every day".

    Warning! In the next MV goodnight, there is a scene where multiple eyes on the wall is watching that man. It is due to concept where each member represents different nightmares.
    Jiu - nightmare of some one chasing you
    Sua - nightmare of not able to move
    Siyeon - nightmare of stuck in a small place
    Handong -nightmare of being watched
    Yoohyeon - nightmare of wandering around in a unfamiliar place
    Dami - nightmare of physically getting hurt
    Gahyeon - nightmare of falling from the sky

    While there is the whole story about them being nightmares making this guys live a living hell while he is a ghost hunter trying to "catch them, by many insomnia it is believed that there is an other part/are other parts to this story.
    By them singing for example "Chase me, catch me if you can It was really close (dangerous) But, I already left there (Where will I go this time?)" or "The quiet world is going to get a lot of noise Can you stop it? Can you?" it is almost like they are announcing their presence in the kpop scene and telling you they are gonna walk a different route and daring you/others to follow them/stop them, but at the same time warning them that it's not as easy as it might seem (they have gone through a lot and are determined to never give up basically). A third meaning could be a glimps of what they had to offer in the future, telling they were gonna cover many different genres and do it different every time (which the have done until now). It's probably a combination of all these meanings and maybe even more. You can interpret every lyric in the way you like and that's the beauty of their music!

  • @TheGroovyJones
    @TheGroovyJones Рік тому +1

    The consensus of interpretations + member comments is they are spirits now and when that guy comes to ghost hunt them they mess with him through dreams because they were super bored, daring the hunter to chase them. The clockwork choreography from the guide is the intro to the next song Good Night, but we don't get to see it in the m/v 😢.

    No eye poking stuff that I can think of. Good night has a brief shot with a bunch of eyes looking at the guy from a wall, but many people don't even notice it as it's quick and they blend in.
    Now if you were watching Nature - Girls (Uncensored Ver), I'd give you some warning on some close call pokery in that one.

      That was exactly the MV I was thinking of, too.
      Oh, and Pixy's MV for 'Addicted'. Not exactly getting POKED in that one scene but enough to lend horror to anybody who really hates or is incredibly afraid of getting anything in their eyes... :)

    dreamcatcher \:D/
    don't worry, they only use tongue and cheek horror tropes to forward the visual plot 😅
    but the nightmare the series is referring to is not a scary/bad dream, but rather life's difficulties. keep in mind part of their name means to 'catch' your 'dreams' and a lot of their songs are about not giving up on your dreams but more importantly maintaining your identity in its pursuit. you get this in dami's verse 'what is a good kid, I'm being myself' so the overarching theme of the series is to not let difficulties in life change/dictate who you are.
    in this regard, you sort of got the general meaning on the chase me part. redebuting after minx, they were going to do things their own way with their second chance even if it was against public opinion. they make a slight against the kpop industry by saying 'other people's dreams are boring', suggesting most of the industry follow a cookie cutter formula and thus lack originality. by doing so, they were going to make a big splash that would eventually cause others to follow - to chase them. since rock is not popular in korea, they struggled early on to get any traction domestically. people even told them if they wanted to be popular, don't do rock. but one song at a time they were able to gain enough fans internationally to one day make the kpop industry take a second look and wonder who is group that's so popular internationally but unknown locally. in the past few years, more and more kpop groups have integrated rock instrumentation into their music so in this sense they achieved one of their original goals of making rock more popular in korea.

    for eyes alert, You And I definitely need to be noticed but not actually eyes disappeared. different of eyes attack btw. I can say Fly High and What are the least scary nightmare series MVs (within Korean discography only). Good Night will explain you that they're not ghosts and will be "lesser" scary. the last one, Piri, definitely having specific scene (only) for one of the scary things that usually happened in horror movies.
    I guess.. those will be okay,

    Hi
    To be honest, 'Chase Me', 'Good Night' and 'You and I' are the most 'scary' MVs. 'Fligh High', 'What' and 'Piri' aren't that bad.
    I really enjoyed your reaction and will be looking forward to the next !

    Chase me is an awesome debut song.
    The Nightmare Series was Dreamcatcher's debut storyline, and the songs are heavily influenced by J-rock. The lyrical content of the songs addresses the fears or nightmares that idols and people experience in life. Societal expectations, loneliness, feeling lost and unsure of your direction in life, depression, suicide, and much more. The MV's tell a story of how the girls became cursed as Nightmares and their journey to try and break free of the Nightmare world. Personally, I also think the Nightmare series serves as a mirror for the girls own journey from Minx to Dreamcatcher. All of the fear and pain that comes from pouring your heart into something and then failing had to have been traumatic. Then to completely re-invent yourself so you can try again, all the while knowing that it probably won't work. For a group to re-debut, especially with all the same members, almost never happens. Let alone with a concept that’s so outside of the mainstream. A Rock/Horror concept was unheard of at the time and only recently have other groups in kpop started to come out with similar concepts.
    When you get to Fly High, which is song 3, you'll see some of the back story as it shows the events that lead to the curse. You'll also see some brighter musical influences, more in line with the type of music that Minx put out.

      As an addition, I know at some point I heard someone talking about how Siyeon got so depressed after Minx and before Dreamcatcher that she couldn't listen to music because it hurt too much to hear other people doing what she wanted so badly to be doing herself. Don't know if that really happened but I do remember hearing it (or reading it).

    Theres not really anything eith eyes being touched or messed with after this. If youre afraid of spiders, be prepared for one or two shots in Fly High and You and I. If you're afraid of dolls, theres on scene in Piri to watch out for.
    Otherwise, nothing stands out to me on the fear scale

  • @keithcraig506
    @keithcraig506 Рік тому +1

    Fear level? This is about as bad as it gets. Like this video, the series focuses more on story and suspense than it does on outright horror. There will be a few shots like the lost eyes shot interspersed throughout, but they don't dwell on them or over do it.
    In short, you can use this video as a sort of template on what to expect in the Nightmare series. There's no gore and no real jump scares. But there are some references to spiders. Again, not a lot and they don't dwell on them, but if you're an arachnophobe you might have a couple "oh no!" moments.
    The confusion about the order of the MV's stems from the fact that their third release, Fly High, is a prequel to Chase Me. As such, you could either watch the MV's in release order or in story order. Most InSomnia will agree that you've done the right thing by watching them in release order, starting with Chase Me, which is their debut.
