    This tutorial is fantastic! I am a self taught sewist and until now have only made garments. A friend asked me to make some curtains to almost the exact same specifications that you showed in your video. I’ve never made curtains before so was thrilled to find a video that taught me how to make professionally finished drapes. Your descriptions and the camera angles were just perfect. My friend was thrilled with the finished product. The only thing I did differently was make triple pinch pleats instead of double, and added some button embellishments on the top of the pleats. Thank you for providing all of the standard measurements for each element also.

    I have watched a lot of sewing videos and most times I leave feeling even more confused or frustrated, but this was so clear and concise. It was so easy for me to spot where I had gone wrong and was just as good as being in the same room as the teacher. Awesome

    I made the mistake of following the pattern on the edge and top and bottom of some curtains I made in the eighties (in my 20s) only to find at the end that my curtain was off at an angle and didn't hang properly. It was a HUGE disappointment and since then I religiously measure and check and triple check before cutting fabric. I only use a draftsman's right angle ruler to neaten the edge of fabrics before cutting. Shame on manufacturers who produce fabrics that are not straight or have printed patterns that are not straight. Thank you for your wonderful tutorial I have learnt something new xx🌹
    P.S. pesky knots ! 😠

    I hate Knots too. I recently found out that thread has a nap! So when you take a length, you should thread it at the beginning end. I have had so many fewer knots since I started doing that. I'm sure you already know. However, it's been a game changer for me.

  • @mollyb249

Regarding future tutorials, I would like to see how you make swags and tails lined with a co-ordinating fabric and also how you make Austrian (or festoon) blinds. I know the principal is similar to Roman blinds but I would like to see how you make these as the finish on your work is impeccable. Thank you.

    This is one terrific lesson, wow! I have a big job coming up and needed update on how to interline..fabulous. a few ?s if you will....one is I like the weight of your hand sewing thread? what do you like to use---2- when you did the pleat, you mentioned attaching the top folds of the pleats...I missed how you did that. machine or hand or a press? Also that secure stitch at the bottom of the pleat did you do that on the base of the buckram or just below the buckram? I am a fan and will watch more, thank you so very much!

      Hi Sarah, yes, when you put your linings in, they are locked in at the seams, sewn at the sides by hand, chain sticked at the bottom of the lining and caught into the pleats at the top. I am shortly going to make a two with curtain where I will explain how to do all this xx

  • @ymfg9004
    @ymfg9004 4 дні тому

    Just wondering why you don't place the lining in under the hems and side hems of the outer fabric the way you do with the buckram tape? Wouldn't all the fabric then drape and move together nicely? I have always wondered why the two have to be separate then hand stitched.

    You video is wonderful! I'm making 117x96 inch (2 widths) and 6 single width panels all with double pleats.
    I can't believe it, but my hand stitching looks like yours! What type of buckram are you using to get the stiffness you have? I have several types. They seem flimsy to me. My fabric is 100% polyester, but looks very much like raw silk.
