It makes me smile to see some of the styles coming back that we had when I was young. I didn’t think I would ever hear the word pleater hooks again! But, there it is. Love the curtains!
We just got the black curtains with the pink peonies from IKEA for our sunroom. I remembered watching this video and handed the hooks and the curtains to my husband and wished him well. He has patience like yours, and I so appreciate people like you and my husband. I'm stressed from the other room. lol
Many years ago I went to my deliberately last Tupperware party. The seller was telling me how I could put tuna in this tub and cake in that tub, etc. Not exactly rocket science. I'm so happy to see instructional videos from curtains to cupboard replacements especially by women. Thanks.
I love the curtains. We used to make pinched pleated curtains in the 70’s, but we didn’t use the round curtain hook at the top of your curtain. Very clever. One thing I always did was take each pleat and fold it perfectly,, lay it down on the ironing board, cover it with a cloth and steam the pleat for sharp creases. What is old is new again. I have never seen that pinch pleat tape for the back of the curtain, as ours was a different type. Thank you for sharing.
So glad I finally decided to search on UA-cam because I've been trying to find the perfect pinch pleated curtains but could not find the ones I wanted at a reasonable price. I've scrolled by a few ppl advertising DIY and I'm a DIY Diva but have sooo many projects going on that I wanted the easy way out. However, since it looks simple enough, I'm going to try it. Thanks so much for sharing 👌🏾
Oh my, I bought the Rivta curtains for my living room. I am in love with them!! They are so high-end looking at such a reasonable price. I admired your curtains a while back and I am so thankful you posted where they were purchased. Now, I need a pair for my bedroom!
The secret is to count the number of pockets on each panel and measure what length you want your finished product to be. Also see the number of rings you have, bearing in mind that you can add rings. Then put a hook on each end of the panel and one in the middle then count again. Then working only on the one half of the one panel, put in a hook in the middle of each quarter, then measure again. Then a hook again in the middle of each section. Then measure again and count the number of pockets you have between each one, if there’s space, go again in the middle of each space. But keep measuring and comparing. If you are a little out, you can always leave a pocket less or more on the ends. This has always worked very quickly for me.
When we lived in Germany I was totally lost on how to hang curtains. I had my American curtains I had brought (pretty poor back then), and the house had tracks in the ceiling. A German friend I had showed me how to get those inexpensive clips, and just clip them onto the tops of the curtains, so I could open and close them. No AC there, so closing curtains in the summer helped keep the room cool. Since then I have loved their curtain hanging style, as well as the windows they had. One day I’ll get those types of windows in my home...they are pretty pricy here, but absolutely wonderful if you like to open up windows.
I totally understood what you meant about previous curtains...a little more open/ loose at the top..perfect for a bedroom..love the more tailored looked ...and easy to do too... thank you for video! 🙋🏻♀️💕🇬🇧
Just got the Ritva curtains and they’re definitely a loss leader like the bananas at Trader. I think they look fantastic. I actually found NoNo brackets so I could use them to cover vertical blinds in my apartment without putting any holes in the wall and it was so much easier than leveling an actual curtain rod
My grandmother worked in a custom drapery workroom sewing curtains. This brings back memories. I had a cigar box full of those hooks and put them in recycling about a year ago. 😳😳
Oh my gosh! I have always wondered about these curtains after hearing about them, but never had the time. Thank you, thank you for sharing this. I now know what I am doing for my new place. Again thank you Lisa!!! Really loving your living room. Can't wait to see what color you chose for the walls or the finished result.
If you mark the holes you want with a disappearing ink marker, it will make it super easy. Then steam it to make the ink disappear ( or wipe with wet cloth, or use a water spray bottle). Get marker at any craft/fabric store or walmart, even.
Thanks for the tips! Recently joined your channel and had no idea about pleats, hooks, etc. The things we learn on UA-cam! I know it’s not a new concept but it is a new concept to me. Thanks for sharing with the new generations 🤗
Those curtains with the rods really suit the room much better. Looks regal. I grew up in an old house with the tall ceilings, thanks for the great idea regarding these Ikea curtains.
I never heard of this until this video.. I like it and will definitely check these out. We have 10' ceilings with 5 7' tall windows along the living room wall. We thought it was going to be super expensive to cover them & make them look luxurious. But thanks to this video, we can do it on the cheaper side and not need to order custom curtains. Thank you
The curtains look so beautiful especially with the brass! I have had to put so many of these hooks, so many times, in my mom's curtains as a child that now I get stressed just thinking about them 😂 I will choose to admire them in someone else's house lol.
I love the rods and rings! Your living room is really coming together beautifully, so much more grown up. I never have liked those tie top drapes, they’re so hard to slide on the rod, it seems.
Mom uses these on her drapes, but(!) I wouldn’t have thought to do this “on the cheap” Nor with the addition of circle hooks. Both great ideas, thanks.
☄Tres Chic☄. Never thought I would like brass again, but it is slowly growing on me. (Always did favor gold over silver.) Looks lovely with the creamy curtain panel you picked. Nice to know about IKEA option. Added pleater tape to affordable curtain panels from Big Lots a few years back. Actually sewed on a matching black-out panel behind the curtain first. Also doubled up on them, so it looked more luxurious. Able to do w/my beginner level skills. Went this route, so I could clip them into the existing custom drapery set-up. 🤗
Thanks for this great idea! Tailored look made affordable 😊 Btw, there are better rings for hooks out there. Ones that don't have the clip but instead a little loop for the hook.
Thank goodness for this video!! 🙏🏾 I actually had the now hard to find Ritva curtains (at a bargain price too!) but couldn’t for the life of me figure out to use the pleater hooks. In fact I was about to give up on this project but after stumbling upon this video I was able to finish 2 panels in like 20 mins. Such a good demonstration- thank you! Just subscribed too 😁
Where did you find them? They’ve gone up since she’s purchased! I want to order from ikea but they don’t ship the size I need and I don’t live near one
I binged so many videos on your UA-cam channel. I found you, when I was looking for minimal baby essentials. I’m currently pregnant! I just want to say, I love your channel❤️
I think the difference would be casual curtains versus more formal drapes or draperies. In our house growing up my mom only had formal pleated drapes of different lengths and materials. In our more casual family room with our huge family table she had a mid length, natural undyed flax pleated drapes verses the more formal floor length white linen pleated drapes with wrought iron curtain holdbacks. Pleated drapes really went out of style completely in the early 90s when the very long, billow on the floor curtains and the tab top curtains became almost universal. It’s kind of nice to see the pleated drapes coming back again.
I just found this video. I never learned about hanging curtains and you have helped me immensely. I have liked and subscribed. Wishing you and yours a blessed and Happy New Year.
Fabulous idea of using pleated hooks on Ikea curtains for a tailored, expensive, finished look! Love the gold rods and rings too. Hope you link them. :)
I love the curtains! We have two large windows place right next to each other and I searched long ado for an extra long rod and couldn’t find one. Time to search again!
I replaced old off white pinch pleat curtains and valance with Ikea velvet and semi-sheer (double rods) hung high and wide as you did. I was astonished at how much better it looked snd how much more light they let in.
This is an awesome video - who would have thought of doing this??? thank you so much, you have opened up more possibilities. I think you get shower curtain clips that may be the same type and cheaper! WOW i had no idea you get a pleater hook?? Learned a lot today.
Thank you for the tip! I can't find that style of curtain on my Australian IKEA, but they have plenty of other curtains with the pleat tape backing that will work just fine! Thank you so much for this. My windows have been naked for too long!
I randomly just stumbled on your channel and saw this. What a great idea. They look great! Two questions: 1. Did you use the Short neck pleated drapery hooks or the long ones? 2. What are the specific clip hooks you used? When I click on the link you posted for the clips you used, it doesn’t link to a product. Thanks in advance!
First off, how am I today years old learning to push the curtain rod not just up, but out?! I need to do that! Also, had no idea about those pleat hooks and techniques. I'm new here.😊 Great info!
Wow, Lisa! This is absolutely beautiful!!! This video is so timely as I’m getting ready to hang up the curtains in the living and family rooms and wow 😍 what a statement! I always just hung my ikea curtains on a rod but I really really love this look!!! It looks so high end! And i LOVE the brass rods!! I’m off to check out the links! Thanks so much dear for always bringing so much value! Hope you and yours are well ❤️❤️❤️
I love these curtain rods! I’ve been looking for antique brass ones and here they are!! Can always count on you :) Curious -- what diameter did you decide to go with??? Keep up the hard work on this beautiful room!
Actually IKEA has instructions on exact this method in their curtain manuals. You just need to get RIKTIG and SYRLIG. The instruction also tells you how many loops to skip depending on at the ends or in the middle. They actually recommend to clip across the tabs, so they get hidden in the folds.
I never believed pleater hooks would ever be seen again lol! I threw them all out a few years ago. Just shows there’s nothing new under the sun. It all comes round again.
I know right. This is how all of my aunts and mom hung their curtains. I always liked it just didnt care for the type of curtains that were usually hanging from them. They were usually a burgundy or hunter green. Or flowered or multicolored stripes. With the thick backing that peeled after they were washed too much. I remember when everybody got rid of their more formal curtains and tab top or tie tops were everything! My first real house had tab tops in every room. 😂🤣🤦♀️🤷♀️ I do really like how much more modern and sophisticated it looks with the upholstery hooks and pleats used to hang a plain curtain. Even a drop cloth looks gorgeous!

I love that she gave credit where she got the idea. Mark of integrity and success. Brava! 👏👏👏
I agree
I noticed that too
It makes me smile to see some of the styles coming back that we had when I was young. I didn’t think I would ever hear the word pleater hooks again! But, there it is. Love the curtains!
We just put 2 prongs and spaced it evenly. Glad you have the patience for this.😉

He has patience like yours, and I so appreciate people like you and my husband. I'm stressed from the other room. lol
Dang now I have to redo my curtains. This the never ending project for my large window.
Many years ago I went to my deliberately last Tupperware party. The seller was telling me how I could put tuna in this tub and cake in that tub, etc. Not exactly rocket science. I'm so happy to see instructional videos from curtains to cupboard replacements especially by women. Thanks.
I am going to do this! So pretty! I would mark the spots for the hooks so that it would be easier to rehook them after washing🙂
I like that idea, the brass rods do uplift the curtains to another level 💯💯💯
Lisa you home is coming along beautifully.
TUFS

I really love Ikea hacks, there are so many options even with furniture!

Without your how to I would’ve never figured these pleat hooks out! Love my curtains! Thank you!
So glad!
The rod color & placement to show the trim is so well done! Beautiful curtain choice!
Great idea! And if you buy plain linen covered buttons just sew them in the middle of each pleat to make them even more high-end!
I totally understood what you meant about previous curtains...a little more open/ loose at the top..perfect for a bedroom..love the more tailored looked ...and easy to do too... thank you for video! 🙋🏻♀️💕🇬🇧

I'm so glad I came across your channel. You saved me over $1500 on custom drapes. These curtains transformed my open living and dining room.
My mother used to sew drapes. It was very involved. What a great idea- I’ll have to try it.❤️
My grandmother worked in a custom drapery workroom sewing curtains. This brings back memories. I had a cigar box full of those hooks and put them in recycling about a year ago. 😳😳

The windows look so pretty and polished with the pinch pleat style and the gold rod
THANKS SO MUCH! Canceled my $700+ curtain order & ran to ikea for these. They look so good!! 🎉
I never heard of this until this video.. I like it and will definitely check these out. We have 10' ceilings with 5 7' tall windows along the living room wall. Lisa, love the look of pleats. Especially adore the antique brass rods and rings. Thank you for sharing.
The curtains look so beautiful especially with the brass!

I will choose to admire them in someone else's house lol.
Thank you , Thank you, Thank you for taking the time to show us.
Oh!! Those are old school hooks Mom had them.. I luv how they look in your living area.
Really good video and I watched tons on this curtain stuff. Thanks for showing the other option as well! Congrats on your home
I love the rods and rings! Your living room is really coming together beautifully, so much more grown up. I never have liked those tie top drapes, they’re so hard to slide on the rod, it seems.
I like this idea. The brass rods look good. Stay safe and well, thanks from Australia🐨🐨🦘🦘

Lisa, such beautiful woodwork. My ceilings are very low, but this is still a lovely idea. Thank you and keep everyone healthy.😀
They look really nice and I like the rods.
I love the pleats! I usually use four panels instead of two because it seems to make the drapes look more substantial. I think I need pleats now. 🙂
OMG! I've sewn drapes like this with the special strip to do this! This is so much easier!! thank you thank you
Thanks for this great idea! Tailored look made affordable 😊 Btw, there are better rings for hooks out there. Ones that don't have the clip but instead a little loop for the hook.
A deep wall color in a flat or low sheen would look amazing.
You always have the best content to share. The Lord has blessed you with so many talents.

Great tutorial. I like how you attached the rings for hanging and didn’t have to use a special rod for the hooks like I have😁❤️
Two years ago I donated to the Rehab store all of my old pleater hooks that I had for years. Never thought pleated draperies would come back in style.
Good morning,
I really enjoyed watching your video today. Always such great ideas. I am a new fan from florida and I love your channel
First time here. Pretty! Love smart creative minds; never knew of this method to pleat the curtains. Thank you!
Thanks for that, I had these curtain problems now for years and did not know how to fix, hope I find these in germany, of course we have also Ikea!
Thanks for sharing. Maybe I'll do this in my bedroom instead of linen drapes. Linen can be so expensive.
Love love love. I am so bookmarking this for when i update my curtains!!! Love your tutorials! Sincerely, mom who needed an easy hack!
Was hoping since you used IKEA curtains, the curtain rods would be a deal too. But they do look marvelous, just outside my budget.💖🦩
I think the difference would be casual curtains versus more formal drapes or draperies. In our house growing up my mom only had formal pleated drapes of different lengths and materials. Really looking forward to your Christmas decor video as we loved it so much last year! Thank you for the curtain tips Lisa 😊
Beautiful work transforming your curtains! Thank you for sharing with all of us ~ love your windows:).
Sweet to be with you:)!!
Thanks for sharing that Lisa! That’s going to come in handy when I put curtains in my new house
Thank you so much! This could not have come at a better time ❤️🥰
You amaze me. What a beautiful home!

Beautiful curtains in a beautiful room!!!
Fabulous idea of using pleated hooks on Ikea curtains for a tailored, expensive, finished look! Love the gold rods and rings too. Hope you link them. :)
I am moving and almost got rid of these! I'm totally doing this in my new place. So excited!
Great presentation.i just put my order in and I will try this with the guest room.tyvm
I love the curtains! We have two large windows place right next to each other and I searched long ado for an extra long rod and couldn’t find one. Time to search again!

Looking at your windows, I suggest you chalk them. Especially on the top. I can see holes between the frame and wall.
My first time watching you and you taught me so much... Thank you and i look forward to watching more of you. :)
Excellent, LOVE this hack and your tutorial
This is an awesome video - who would have thought of doing this??? thank you so much, you have opened up more possibilities. I think you get shower curtain clips that may be the same type and cheaper! WOW i had no idea you get a pleater hook?? Learned a lot today.
I love that look it’s timeless
I absolutely love the rods and rings, would you mind sharing the links on where to purchase agains?
Ikea we love they have so many great deals and they're beautiful and their prices are amazing for anyone who has not been there
Thank you for the tip! I can't find that style of curtain on my Australian IKEA, but they have plenty of other curtains with the pleat tape backing that will work just fine! Thank you so much for this. My windows have been naked for too long!
I’ve done this but never skipping 5 but two and it never looked as Taylor’s but now I know thank you
5 is perfection
New here ! Window treatments make all the difference! Awesome tip! Thnx!
Your tip is great can’t wait for more by the way IKEA has great curtains I buy them when I change a room.
Those curtains are perfect ! Can’t wait to see what else you do with this room !
I randomly just stumbled on your channel and saw this. What a great idea. They look great!
Two questions:
1. Did you use the Short neck pleated drapery hooks or the long ones?
2. What are the specific clip hooks you used? When I click on the link you posted for the clips you used, it doesn’t link to a product.
Thanks in advance!
Did you ever figure out which pleater hooks she used ?
Oh so beautiful Lisa ! Loving that room!
Thank you so much!

Yes! Thank you! Was so frustrated that my curtains never looked quite right!
Could you share what they look like when closed?
Great video
Looks like pain in the necko
I love grommet curtains
Soooooo easy for us that are less than curtainistas.....lol

Glad you’re listening to your house!😉
Love it...I want to try that method. lovely....thank you for sharing
I saw where one lady used toothpicks to keep open the tabs so the hooks slide in more easily.
I never believed pleater hooks would ever be seen again lol! I threw them all out a few years ago. Just shows there’s nothing new under the sun. It all comes round again.
