It makes me smile to see some of the styles coming back that we had when I was young. I didn’t think I would ever hear the word pleater hooks again! But, there it is. Love the curtains!

We just got the black curtains with the pink peonies from IKEA for our sunroom. I remembered watching this video and handed the hooks and the curtains to my husband and wished him well. He has patience like yours, and I so appreciate people like you and my husband. I'm stressed from the other room. lol

Many years ago I went to my deliberately last Tupperware party. The seller was telling me how I could put tuna in this tub and cake in that tub, etc. Not exactly rocket science. I'm so happy to see instructional videos from curtains to cupboard replacements especially by women. Thanks.

I love the curtains. We used to make pinched pleated curtains in the 70’s, but we didn’t use the round curtain hook at the top of your curtain. Very clever. One thing I always did was take each pleat and fold it perfectly,, lay it down on the ironing board, cover it with a cloth and steam the pleat for sharp creases. What is old is new again. I have never seen that pinch pleat tape for the back of the curtain, as ours was a different type. Thank you for sharing.

So glad I finally decided to search on UA-cam because I've been trying to find the perfect pinch pleated curtains but could not find the ones I wanted at a reasonable price. I've scrolled by a few ppl advertising DIY and I'm a DIY Diva but have sooo many projects going on that I wanted the easy way out. However, since it looks simple enough, I'm going to try it. Thanks so much for sharing 👌🏾

The secret is to count the number of pockets on each panel and measure what length you want your finished product to be. Also see the number of rings you have, bearing in mind that you can add rings. Then put a hook on each end of the panel and one in the middle then count again. Then working only on the one half of the one panel, put in a hook in the middle of each quarter, then measure again. Then a hook again in the middle of each section. Then measure again and count the number of pockets you have between each one, if there’s space, go again in the middle of each space. But keep measuring and comparing. If you are a little out, you can always leave a pocket less or more on the ends. This has always worked very quickly for me.

When we lived in Germany I was totally lost on how to hang curtains. I had my American curtains I had brought (pretty poor back then), and the house had tracks in the ceiling. A German friend I had showed me how to get those inexpensive clips, and just clip them onto the tops of the curtains, so I could open and close them. No AC there, so closing curtains in the summer helped keep the room cool. Since then I have loved their curtain hanging style, as well as the windows they had. One day I’ll get those types of windows in my home...they are pretty pricy here, but absolutely wonderful if you like to open up windows.

Just got the Ritva curtains and they’re definitely a loss leader like the bananas at Trader. I think they look fantastic. I actually found NoNo brackets so I could use them to cover vertical blinds in my apartment without putting any holes in the wall and it was so much easier than leveling an actual curtain rod

If you mark the holes you want with a disappearing ink marker, it will make it super easy. Then steam it to make the ink disappear ( or wipe with wet cloth, or use a water spray bottle). Get marker at any craft/fabric store or walmart, even.

☄Tres Chic☄. Never thought I would like brass again, but it is slowly growing on me. (Always did favor gold over silver.) Looks lovely with the creamy curtain panel you picked.
Nice to know about IKEA option. Added pleater tape to affordable curtain panels from Big Lots a few years back. Actually sewed on a matching black-out panel behind the curtain first. Also doubled up on them, so it looked more luxurious. Able to do w/my beginner level skills.
Went this route, so I could clip them into the existing custom drapery set-up.

I think the difference would be casual curtains versus more formal drapes or draperies. In our house growing up my mom only had formal pleated drapes of different lengths and materials. In our more casual family room with our huge family table she had a mid length, natural undyed flax pleated drapes verses the more formal floor length white linen pleated drapes with wrought iron curtain holdbacks.
Pleated drapes really went out of style completely in the early 90s when the very long, billow on the floor curtains and the tab top curtains became almost universal. It’s kind of nice to see the pleated drapes coming back again.

Actually IKEA has instructions on exact this method in their curtain manuals. You just need to get RIKTIG and SYRLIG. The instruction also tells you how many loops to skip depending on at the ends or in the middle. They actually recommend to clip across the tabs, so they get hidden in the folds.

I know right. This is how all of my aunts and mom hung their curtains. I always liked it just didnt care for the type of curtains that were usually hanging from them. They were usually a burgundy or hunter green. Or flowered or multicolored stripes. With the thick backing that peeled after they were washed too much. I remember when everybody got rid of their more formal curtains and tab top or tie tops were everything! My first real house had tab tops in every room. 😂🤣🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
I do really like how much more modern and sophisticated it looks with the upholstery hooks and pleats used to hang a plain curtain. Even a drop cloth looks gorgeous!
