I tried to buy apple CarPlay through the app but it said it wasn’t compatible with my version of iDrive. I’m not positive but I think iDrive may have been updated in February but I’d need to check. This is not installing apple car play to a car that never had it. It is simply subscribing to a service. If it isn’t pre-installed as part of the cars software at the factory you can’t do this.

You need to have Apple car play pre-installed in your car for this to work. This video only shows how to activate it if its pre-installed. If your car is not factory fitted with Apple car play, it won't show you the option. My new fully loaded 530D M sport (g30) also doesn't have it!! You can decode your VIN to check if your car has Apple car play. functionality built in. It will show up in list of features.

BMW has a one time purchase and comes standard with some models. Kia and Hyundai are monthly subscriptions in some regions or complimentary for a limited amount of time
Best thing to do is go into your connected drive and see if it’s listed as an app you can purchase. Im new to BMW ownership so not sure what version of iDrive is in your 2015 car.
It doesn't work in a 2018 X3, unless you have already from factory installed. We have every single option and packages except Apple CarPlay and when I try to access in the menu the only thing showing me that I can purchase is the concierge service for $100
I, too, have a 2018 X3 (G01). I didn’t worry about the Carplay option because this video said you can install it on any touch-screen iDrive 6 system. I learned the hard way after buying my car that this is incorrect. You must have wireless charging to have the CarPlay hardware prep. Then you will see CarPlay available for purchase in the Connected Drive store. SMH.
This does not work on my M2, there is no apple car play option whatsoever in the menu to the right. I get all the other services bar that one. Any ideas? It’s just not there on my Idrive. This is just subscribing to it, if it’s not in the cars software on purchase then it’s clearly not there!

@@user-gn1hk5fx8u checked a little more, different radio in the 16 then the 17. I think it requires an add on android box of some sort to have carplay, the 16 has the NBT, 17 has the NBT EVO. Unless you know something I don't?
