- iOS 18 - New Apple CarPlay Features - iOS 18 introduces many new features and changes, but there are some new updates specific to Apple CarPlay. The new Apple CarPlay features should work on iOS 18 supported devices and will automatically show on your vehicle equipped with Apple CarPlay. Some car screens can’t handle multitouch gestures unfortunately.
depends on the car screen as well. On my personal car, it doesn't work. But for newer cars that I've driven for work, it works
Will this happen with the update on my phone or do I need to update my cars CarPlay?
Also, let us drag the route to the path WE want instead of selecting multiple stops to get the route we want! Seems so simple. This is what Google allows

Wish they made it possible to use streaming services on our CarPlay when parked
Would really give them parity with in-car software from the likes of Tesla and rivian. Especially with their plans to take over the entire interfaces of cars.

Hey Aaron, you needed to enable bilingual Siri? Or it’s an automatic thing?
Wish they allowed 3rd party maps to be available on gauges - having Waze there would be great

I’ve noticed a bug with T-Mobile and CarPlay where the 5G stand-alone voice doesn’t seem to be working. As soon as I disconnect from CarPlay or use my AirPods, the clarity of the voice call immediately improves. Not sure if this is the case with wireless CarPlay or not but this is currently seeming to be the issue with wired CarPlay.
Is reading messages (sms/whatsapp) work than carplay announcing it thru voice ?
Is it buggy as f or good enough for everyday

Would a dynamic wallpaper work for carplay in a future iOS? Icons dont match when in darkmode. I wisj we can use apple maps in satellite mode

My biggest wish list item is an outside temperature readout under the time. Some cars like mine lose the outside temp displayed on the screen when CarPlay is enabled.

I genuinely had no idea you could hold down that app button for Siri… but then again I’ve never needed it because my car’s steering wheel voice assistant button just activates Siri when pressed.

Voice Control feature is amazing! But we need a quick shortcut toggle at the horizontal bar or something because you wouldn't want that on for most of the time but sometimes.

Is any in here using a Dash Cam (I have Nexar) with their iOS 18? I’m curious if you plug up your iPhone do you still get all of the iOS 18 features for the CarPlay. There was mention that you have to connect your CarPlay wirelessly to get all of the new CarPlay features. Just curious before I start shopping for a new Dash Cam. I plug up the iPhone so I can use WiFi for my Dash Cam. If connect to CarPlay wirelessly, then my Dash Cam doesn’t work.
The screen in my Mustang Mach-E is big. I miss that multi screen with the Maps on the left half and the Now Playing on the bottom right 1/4.
I appreciate the mostly cosmetic QoL changes. The motion-sickness accessibility support is a welcome surprise as well.
Thanks Aaron for demonstrating accessibility feature Voice Control in CarPlay. I use the Voice Control feature on all my Apple devices. Now I need to upgrade my 2015 Toyota Sienna head unit so I can run CarPlay and control it with Voice Control.

I have two screens in my car that I’ve been waiting to see how CarPlay looks on them. I hope it’s not just for higher end vehicles that can do that.

There’s also a silence phone option for notifications… I believe it’s in the sound options…
I thought 911’s had full screen CarPlay! The CarPlay in my 2022 Macan is half-screen just like this and I really wish it was full screen.

When having gps on CarPlay the names of the places on the map are now in bold
wish they allowed to use the phone wallpaper on the carplay screen, android auto added that last year i think so hopefully it comes to carplay too

I would recommend getting a brand new head unit, it will make your life 100% easier
is this update installed to the car unit itself Or is the update on the mobile phone which then reflects to the Car unit ?
Carplay is only on your phone, see carplay as an monitor attatched to your phone, its running completly off the iPhone

the "bilingual" part is confusing. can it use 2 languages at the same time ore more? bi-lingual is only 2... i regularly use 8, would it finally work?
It gives weather for where? Where you are currently driving? Your destination? Or from where you left?
You set that up in the Apple weather app on the phone. Your current location or a fixed city.
For dual screen CarPlay, have they removed the feature they added in 17.4 which meant you couldn’t have direction of travel view on both screens?
Dual display is in 18.0 b1/2 there as in 17.4. I have Maps in HUD/Cockpit and maindisplay on my Smart#1.
I smaller known feature that changed completely with IOS 17.5 was Siri Eyes Free. Before the update Siri would read me back the message I spoke to her before sending it. Now it just sends it regardless so can’t mess up the message or you’re screwed. Can’t say I like the new one it works. My car is a 2017 Toyota Corolla So I hope they keep this around even tho they are moving more towards car play
I just wish it had a UA-cam app even if it only would play the audio from a video or play the video if you’re parked.
Have you seen the problem with your phone was connected to the car sync system and then as you’re talking you disconnect, but the phone does not disconnect. It goes back to the speakers on the phone.
Have you checked your usb cable? Maybe it’s bent somewhere and a wire is getting cracked.
Buy a new one at big lots or Ollie’s for $3-$4 bucks see if that is it.

You can use it either way. It doesn’t make a difference. It’s always active.

I just want Waze to automatically stop on my iPhone after disconnecting from CarPlay. That would be nice. Hopefully this bug has been fixed.

They all have the redesign. It’s pushed from the phone not from the head unit.

Does it finally play any voice messages from WhatsApp instead of saying „ „person xy“ send you a voice message. Do you want to answer..?“. That’s so stupid in my opinion.. WhatsApp is so ass on Apple Watch or CarPlay..

You don’t buy a Porsche for CarPlay. They have made it wider in later versions though.

How about ‘Recently played’ on Apple Music, rather than having to go through the menu while driving? Sometimes you can’t remember the album name, so Siri can’t help!
I want to be able to create routes in maps. Be able to manage those in every way possible like saving them, sharing them, doing things like meeting up with someone else as part of the route…
Also, I would like maps or something AI to tell me, for instance if my favorite food and beverage location while I’m driving is within a mile or 5 miles of my current location.
Other examples would be if there are any particular events within 10 or 20 miles of things that I would like; for instance, the cars and coffee whether it’s now soon or tomorrow.
These are all things that would be great. Also, car-to-car communication would be something that would be great. You know the walkie-talkie mode. Something like that in CarPlay.
I can even think of safety things like broadcast and SOS or kind of like a fall detection if or even let’s say Apple Watch detect in a fib condition. Be able to broadcast that to the cars within 100 yards of you. Or reach out to emergency services.
