One other thing, in my video you can see that I used a short piece of pipe rather than a long one like yours. If I had to use the "tool" again, I'd weld a washer to the end of the pipe that had a hole big enough for the prop shaft to go through it, then it would hold itself.

Awesome job! Do you happen to know where you got the replacement bearings and seals? Have part numbers? I have 1990 OMC King Cobra with 454 and need to do this job. Got everything disassembled. One of my carrier Y think is cracked. So I need to find replacement or aluminum weld it back.

The metal seal/oring that goes on the carrier that got pushed in with the socket do you happen to know the direction that it goes?

Thanks for making this video, it was helpful when I did mine. Mine was fairly hard to remove, but went it almost entirely by hand. Your threads were probably damaged when you first tried removing it with the holding tab still in place. I think another factor might be corrosion on the inside of the drive housing, and on the carrier itself, causing drag as you try to screw it in. Here is a terribly edited video of my "tips" ttps://ua-cam.com/video/FHLDAuoxkVU/v-deo.html

Exactly. That carrier assembly is a mess now. Use the proper tool for such an expensive component.
