What a fabulous video! I don’t underestimate how many hours of work this took and you are so respectful to people you are filming. THANK YOU XX. Jo Hampshire WGW Organiser ❤❤❤
Many thanks Jo. Hope you are all having a great time.. I work on the principle of if people are polite and pleasant I will always be the same back. Sadly there's always a tiny percentage who aren't polite but they form a tiny minority and its lovely to see the many thousands of really happy lovely people who come to Whitby for your event.
I remember going to Whitby about 20 years ago, I actually went to camp there for a weekend, --- I had no clue about Goth weekend then and it wasn't as big as it is now, But on our way there from Redcar, In them little country lanes we started spotting Vampires and such ..We was really freaked out at first .. Like --"Did you see that in that dark lane??" - "Sure I just saw a bunch of Vampires ..hahahaha ..Needless to say we got to Whitby town and all was revealed ..I had a lovely time and it was just brilliant, (I camped beneath the bungalow near the Fish smoking hut on them tiered bits haha.
@@SabTheSeeker81 Every year I bump into people who have come to Whitby for the day or weekend and had no clue Goth Weekend was even a thing. Its all very amusing.
First time there and will not be the last. Was amazing the only place I have ever been where there is no animosity at all, you feel safe and people are so friendly ❤
*It seems like a pleasant festival to me, but I couldn't help but notice the disrespect towards the tombs...they should restrict access to that area to avoid this.*
When it was just the Goth festival (music festival taking place in the evening) these kind of disrespectful behaviour did not take place.... It is all these fancy dress people that have hijacked the event and photographers encouraging it
@@bestyoutube5318in the first few years of goth events, people that were actual goths attended( as in they dress that way all the time not just at events) but yes the fake goths started taking over, not actually attending the events just hanging about on the streets taking up hotel rooms that real goths couldn’t get which in turn affected ticket sales,it was a dire situation for a while and there were fierce debates about the event suffering due to the ‘fancy dress’ mob
Delighted with this video. I will say yes to the opportunity to visit Whitby and enjoy the variety of Gothic beauty and Goth genres that Whitby attracts. I suggest to learn about the history of Whitby and respect the sacred sites of Whitby.
Fantastic video, whitby is one of my favourite towns and I've been meaning to go to the Gothic weekend for years but this has just made up for all those missed occasions. It was simply fabulous, many, many thanks. Such a perfect setting for the event, you captured it so well.❤
I just love goths all down to earth folks.. whitby seems to hlp them fit right in..Thank for sharing this.. missed this year ..Mondy when i get there, it will all be over with ...thanks for look into this years magic 2023 ..here is to next year
Absolutely brilliant! I had MANY "Goth" mates back in Yorkshire in the 80s - they didn't look like most of these guys though! I was more of a Rockerbilly back then but it's really amazing to see where the "movement/look/lifestyle?" has gone to. It seems to have morphed into a combination of the original Goths of the 80s (yes, I appreciate the history of it), steam punk and fancy dress. Much more advanced than our lot ever were. Having said that, I'm not sure if all of these guys would have made it into Spiders (club in Hull) on a Saturday night back in the 80s! Another great video. Cheers for posting. Appreciate it.
Thanks for a fabulous video about the Gothic Weekend. So much fabulous outfits everywhere. Wish I can be there one year. I do know how beautiful Whitby is...
Another great video and it looked like an interesting weekend. I love seeing Whitby too the harbour, boats, cute streets brings back childhood memories for me, thank you again and will continue following.
I lived in Whitby back when the first goth weekend happened, almost was drafted in to help organise it,worked at uncle Phil’s shop( rest in peace Phil you legend) great times greatly missed
0:48 ... once again, you have captured the Vampyre, Vlad Dracul III (plus a lot of sun block and a good solid paid of 'gloves' to protect the hands) in his element. Thank you again, sir!
Remember the old days when this festival was all about the Music, this is why we all stopped going too may dress ups just wanting folk to take pictures, the council have requested to respect the graveyard but alas no
Nicely filmed, felt like being there which I was. I saw the pumpkins I carved in the distance by the Tea Rooms at the bottom of the steps. Only been home a day and want to go back!
I started going to the goth weekend in 1997 when it actually was a goth weekend and it was amazing. It is just unfortunate that they invented steam punk as they encroach on everyone else's events and take over. They are nothing to do with the goth culture. So sad.
Agreed. I thought the Whitby residents had had access to the graveyard restricted because of the lack of respect shown towards it and the graves of those laid to rest there. Disgraceful really.
Whitby - was there for the 1st time 2 weeks ago. Wonderful town. These sc enes are great. Incidentally, Mr Photographer, are you a Scouser? My wife thinks you are. I'm a Scouser myself, in the USA, but be back in Whitby one day in the not too distant future I hope.
@@jjward2471 I can sort of do a Scouse accent so might drop it in a few videos now and then. It's rubbish, but I find it funny so might just give it a whirl.
@@thewhitbyphotographer It's insulting having your lifestyle ridiculed. Then what would you know, just someone who goes to take pictures, your not part of the scene so would not expect someone like you to know.
I disliked Whitby and the Goths; the place I found wet and the people rude. They had the fine qualities which bore me - thrift and industry and long-faced holiness, and the young women are mostly great genteel boisterous things who are no doubt bedworthy enough if your taste runs that way. (One acquaintance of mine who had a Goths clergyman’s daughter described it as like wrestling with a sergeant of dragoons.) The men I found solemn, hostile, and greedy, and they found me insolent, arrogant, and smart.

A very good piece of filmmaking very calm no camera movement, I would say it covered everything and has captured Whitby perfectly.

I'm seeing a LOT of costumes, where are my everyday goths at? Where are my family?
Your family will likely be in their houses. We dont know who they are let alone where they are.

Wonderful Whitby!
More Steampunk than Goth I think!
Yep i was confused too. But nice to see people enjoying themselves. I assume the Steam Punk festival will be filmed if it was on

Yes I agree about the encroachment, but there nothing you can do about it. The steampunk crowd (I'm one!) seem to have a lot more disposable income.
Completely agree
This actually looks quite good! I might have a stripe of ket and go the next one! 😂
lol, if you have any Ket your legs won't be taking you anywhere.
I saw some of yall yesterday, u look amazing ❤❤❤
Fantastic video, and you captured my daughter.
I'm not even a goth and I have always wanted to go here
Looks like they had better weather this year. Glad that storm missed this weekend :)
We had the bad weather yesterday afternoon.
The Friday was awful weather.

By far my favorite Smiths song 😸

Nothing says Goth more than wearing a lizard as a hat
Great atmosphere and some brilliant outfits, what I didn’t like was so many people walking & climbing on graves, really disrespectful 😞

More toggers than Goths there now.
Whitby never turned anyone away. Proud to be a part of that.
