- Perhaps the busiest Goth Weekend At Whitby to date ? It started with rain and misery, with many local businesses suggesting the town would be empty for Goth Weekend, but by Mid Day on Saturday it was clear this was one of the busiest Spring Goth Weekends in the history of the event.

The old people really get into this gothic weekend. That's pretty good for them, keeps them young. Love seeing this. I am from the US the old act old here, they would never do this.

Its good but i think a lot of people get confused with the true gothic style of dress.

It's a great shame this event has warped into just some sort of fancy dress. The typical age seems 50 onwards, so are they trying to relive something, midlife crises? I first went in October 2008 and it was totally different, most people there were Goths from the scene who would go for 5 days of clubs, bands, markets and more. I noticed, there were a lot of Steam Punks hanging around, I though it was strange as at the time I lived in Bristol and yet never saw them at Goth events there and yet there were loads of them in Whitby. Anyway, 2008 was great but on reflection I think it was the tail end of the original festival. We went the following October and seemed to be getting taken over by more and more Steam Punks and people in costume. We then had an unintentional break for 5 years and returned again in Octobers 2014 and 2015 but it just didn't have the same vibe. Then in 2018 the main organiser lost the Spa venue. While we may go back to Whitby town, I doubt we will go again over Halloween, its too busy, too expensive. Originally Whitby was chosen by the Goths as it was out of season, it was cheap and it was empty. Not anymore.
Well whatever it is today, I still really enjoy it, and as a 55 year old, I'll ask what is the problem being 50 onwards ? You'll be there soon enough my friend, and then you'll realise what a really stupid comment that is.
@@thewhitbyphotographerMy only problem with Whitby is how its been warped into some fancy dress event, mostly by people with very little idea of what Goth is, let along been on the scene. Most of the people from the videos you see are 50+ so I am wondering how it became a thing. Same type of age at the Pirate Weekend in Devon. Lots of people with a mid life crises or repressed regrets?

I just meant that the music wasn't in keeping with the event. The video was great. I'm stuck in Norway and miss all the madness of the UK mindset. Keep it up.
