    My understanding is that you go from rough to smooth filtration. That means that the carbon level should be the last step. You also need a layer or scum to grow on top, before it is finalized. It is a German word, but can't correctly spell it.

    There will be a bit of remaining watter under the drain level, it will probably develop a lot of bacteria over time 🤔

    Yur caulk will not adhere to high density polyethylene... and most likely not to pvc either.
    Use bulkhead fittings.

      Bulkhead fittings are terrible on curved surfaces, he needs uniseals for this.

      Blast rocks, sand , soil, small stones, charcoal and thin pieces of clean cloth between every layer

    Do you just use playsand? Does it matter? Im thinking of just getting sand from a river bank. Is it all the same?

      I rinse my rocks and sand and then I put them I n a metal bucket, and build a fire around it. That way it heats up, and kills off any bacteria 🦠 that may be in the sand or on the rocks. It also ensures it takes less time to rinse sediment off, and have clean water flowing through. I do my layering differently than he did. Large course aggregate at the bottom for draining purposes, then fine charcoal, then sand, then pea gravel on top.

    Actually you could put the raising pipe on the inside if the bin, then make the bend end then go through on the top of the barrel.
    That way you don't need the wrap and it's much neater overall.
