This is a really smart concept! When I miss a step in West Coast Swing, I panic because I feel like I need to get exactly back 'on track' with my footwork. This shows me that WCS is more forgiving than I thought. Thanks!
It’s crazy how this structure reminds me of chord progressions in music!! You start from the tonic (starting point), and then go to the predominant to prep for the drama (follow walks towards the lead), and then go to the dominant (something fancy happens), and then back to tonic (the anchor). The actual chords being used doesn’t really matter as long as they correspond to the correct function. As long as the functions are correct, anything will sound good!
Thank you, Anthony and Rose! My husband and I achieved the impossible last night using your WCS teaching method. We had a whole floor of beginners dancing West Coast Swing after a 1/2 hour lesson. Unbelievable!! We have been trying to build a WCS community for over 20 years in our small town (Port Townsend, WA) but everyone gave up because it looked too hard and they got too hung up on the footwork. Now, thanks to you, we have a chance! ❤❤❤
Massive lesson for me today. I have always intuitively believed that being in rythm is being in step. And not necessarily that I have to be on the right foot. You've just confirmed it for me. Thank you!
G'day Mates! From Australia. A big thanks for explaining WCS that takes away most of that complexity and you make it look fun. Really appreciate what you guys are doing!
Fantastic videos guys. You have the best walk throughs I've seen on UA-cam. I used to do a fair bit of Line dancing back in the day (1996-2006) when it was fairly popular down under but it sure has changed now. Not that there ever was many venues other than classes and a few socials down here. We sadly don't have the Bars and Saloons like you have over there but i always liked doing the partner dances when i had someone to dance with. Lucky the ladies were never as shy as i was about getting you up on the floor! That was something i always enjoyed. I did injure my leg and that stopped me dancing for years but things are better now and I'd sure love to get back on the floor with my long time girlfriend i met after giving up line dancing. I'm showing her these videos and she really likes the sort of style this dancing offers. But i need to find a good venue some where in Melbourne (Australia) not Florida! We can go as the country scene has really changed (dissapeared) here, Sadly very few places and the only ones I've seen are a group of older retired people doing basic line dancing..... But we will keep looking might have to move to Texas!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting :-) Recently, we've had a lot of people reach out to us from Australia. We've had several conversations about how much fun it would be to teach some workshops there! That's awesome that you're getting your girlfriend interested. Country dancing has surged in popularity over the last few years and continues to grow. We'd bet money that you'll see a dance hall or two show up there in Melbourne at some point (or you could just move to Texas where there are literally hundreds of them). Let us know if we can help!
Awesome as always! Puts my mind at ease when I lose my feet. Also, I thought Rose did an exceptional job! Didn't mess up her lines once! Anthony? Well, he's a work in progress.
I have seen WCS classes where "complication" seems to be the key concept at every WCS class. I gave up trying to develop this dance because of that. (among other reasons) Some classes were very good of course. Your approach to focus on the basics and what is really important is refreshing and with this in mind I hope to make WCS fun again. So, thank you for another enlightening video. MCDGA!
We've heard that from our students and have seen it ourselves. We believe that making it simple also makes it fun and ecourages more people to join. Thank you so much for continuing to watch and contribute!
I'm struggling with the start step and going between East and west coast after a whip. I began to love WCS when I discovered so much zydeco during Mardi Gras worked so well with WCS.
It's taken me a month to understand the rhythm. I think I have it. Now I'm beginning a few more advanced whip patterns. I love WCS. I discovered how well it adapts to zydeco and I was hooked. I also wanted to complement your 2 step instruction. The tips you gave for the outside diagonal were a game changer for me. However, my ADHD causes so many problems while I'm trying to 2 step that I simply gave it up. Id love to see A WCS starter step instruction. I watch many different instructional videos, I truly enjoy dancing. And I really get the most out of your instruction. Thank you for reaching out with a reply. You two are really terrific.
So what i get out of this video is there are a few different types of footwork involved in west coast swing? Is my assessment accurate, or am i way off?
Totally get that. It can be pretty overwhelming if approached in the wrong way. If you haven’t already, watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/hEzyT0LJ8F4/v-deo.html
Hi there. The whole point made in the video is that footwork doesn’t matter. Triple steps are footwork. On that note, you can anchor without doing an anchor step. People get that confused.
This is a really smart concept! When I miss a step in West Coast Swing, I panic because I feel like I need to get exactly back 'on track' with my footwork. This shows me that WCS is more forgiving than I thought. Thanks!
That’s exactly what we were hoping to get across here. Don’t sweat it!

Thank you for taking the pressure off getting the footwork perfect. This was an eye-opener. You two rock!!
Love to hear that it helped! That’s what it’s all about for us :-)
Conheci o west com a Kelly Reis no Ponto de Encontro no Rio de Janeiro em 2011, no primeiro West in Rio! Foi maravilhoso!!
Loving your videos! Put you on our TV and my 3 yr old son says “she’s beautiful” I say, “I agree, she is!” He says, “I want to marry her” 😂 💛
That is soooo cute! We have a 5 year old and a 2 year old at home too. The things they say are so crazy.
Excellent breakdown of basic elements done in a very personable style. Thank you both so much!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Honestly, this is so good?? All of my questions have been answered and after some practice it felt so much better
We love hearing that! Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback :-)

Hahaha! If we included all of Anthony’s bloopers, we’d have to put a Parental Advisory notice in each video lol

What an awesome thing to say :-) Thank you for joining us!
I'm struggling with the start step and going between East and west coast after a whip.

Hi there! While going back and forth between ECS and WCS is simple enough, we're left wondering what the benefit of doing that would be?
My teacher calls it a starter step.
@@heladamama92 OK, I see what you're saying now. However a starter step is just a way to start WCS... it's not actually switching from ECS to WCS.

Thank you, Tony The Tiger 😂
We appreciate you being here!
Those bloopers are so funny! XD
So glad that our frustrations can bring you joy hahaha
Grateful ❤
VERY GOOD VIDEO!!!!!!!
So glad you enjoyed it!

Well, yeah… but the big point is that footwork doesn’t really matter that much
@@countrydancex yeah, i have noticed that in your other videos. There is a lot of freedom in the step patterns. I like it
We’re in our 70s and we’re having a hard time dancing WCS. We just can’t seem to get it. We know ECS but WCS is another matter. Any suggestions?
Totally get that. It can be pretty overwhelming if approached in the wrong way. If you haven’t already, watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/hEzyT0LJ8F4/v-deo.html
Gosto demais de seus videos!!
Is ur studio here in Houston?
Yep! We have 2 studio locations. One in Houston (a couple miles from the Galleria) and another in The Woodlands.
What's the name of ur studio so I can check it out
:-) Country Dance X You can visit our website at www.countrydancehouston.com
LOVE YOU GUYS, I WISH YOU LIVED IN NY CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We wish you lived in Texas Hahaha
We gotta get over to Houston! (From Round Rock!)
@@countrydancex One day I will come visit, but if you ever in NY , let me know.
I KNOWW YOU DID BUT YOU DID MENTION IT
Isn't the difference you were on the wrong foot and you included 3 steps?
Or I haven’t danced very much since Covid
The music was off
hmmmm...
WHERE'S THE TRIPLE STEP?
