I've been social dancing for twentyfive years. Y'all are saying things that took me years to realize; It's not about the steps, it's the connection, it's about lead, follow, and the music! I hate lessons, usually. Y'all are great Thank you for your videos.
Your West Coast lessons are intriguing us at the moment.

As a novice(3~6 months) WCS leader my self i would go to your classes. you two are so caring & passionate, it's a joy to watch.
I'ed say that the skill ceiling is high in WCS & people that wrongly expect to be great at it feel WCS is hard to learn.

We totally agree with everything you just said 100%!
On the other hand, everything you just said is also true for every other dance style as well. The ceiling is significantly higher in some other styles than in wcs. The highest levels of ballroom/Latin are insurmountable for most newcomers to even fathom as a possibility.
We feel there are three very separate paths with all partner dancing. Social, sport, and art. The skills required for each are very different... yet people confuse them as the same. When the lines blur too much, it can (and does) damage the community.

The basics may not be that hard, but advancing to a higher is not easy either. For example, many advanced dancers do something they call a rolling count footwork. Is that something an intermediate dancer should try to integrate in their dancing? Is that why Rose's footwork looks so good? Will you be teaching that?

That's very true. Advancing to a high level of any style of dance is never easy (or everybody would be awesome). The whole point is that WCS is not "uniquely difficult" or any more difficult than anything else.
We will likely cover WCS many many more times. We usually decide what to teach about 5 minutes before we film, so who knows what's next? hahaha

      It worked, thx!
Anyway. Did You guys considered before giving us a tips about what to do during music pauses? I saw a video on how to spot a pause. But what to do then? I dance WCS since October, minus the pandemic time ofc. We learned few basic stuff - left side passes, underarms, inside turns, whips, rolls-in/out, sugar pushes, sugar tacks, tack turns. All basic patterns and not many of them (which really pains me, because as a leader I feel like after a while i'm repeating myself a lot - though followers don't say so). Anyway. Let's say a music hits weird pause - no clear beats, no nothing. What do we do?
I see better dancers starting some footworks each one alone or some stylings with body movements. Could You show us some basic staff we can do during this time, to not just stand there awkwardly, waiting for music to finally rescue us, novices? :D

      We're glad to hear that!
That is a great idea for a video. Thanks for the tip. We get some of our best ideas by listening to what our viewers want. We may do that one in a future video :-)

For the guys; you HAFTA hear the same music, if SHE doesn't hear West Coast and you do, wait for another song, ya can't force her to hear what's in your head.
You two always find great ways to simplify a dance.
