My absolute favourite video on youtube, watched this countless of times and still doesn't get tired of it. I'm 17 and will have my license in about 5 months, my father had a 67 valiant 100 with a big /6 just sitting where his garage is for 2 years until I finally asked him what his plans for the Valiant were, he told me he didn't had time to fix it that was his intensions when he bought it so I asked him what he will do with it. He said I'll sell it. My heart broke I told him I could help him fix it. He replied: "If you want it you can have it, but only if you promise to fix it up and don't you dare repaint it." I was completely stunned, i started planning right away asking what was wrong with the engine and all that. he said since it had been sitting for 2 years it would probably need a new engine since it still wasnt running when he bought it. I did know he had a 360 magnum in a shed that was supposed to go into a dodge dakota he owned so i asked him if I could buy the engine and do a sleeper build, he said sure as long as it looked rotten on the outside. A couple of months later the /6 and trans is out, seats are out, new engine mounts are almost finished and today some steel for the subframe connectors were picked up. So tomorrow I will start to build the subframe connectors and hopefully in the next 2 days and nights the engine will be test fitted.
@@WyoCutlass71 The subframe connectors are finished but short after we found out my liver was bad so I haven’t been able to work on it really but I’m starting to feel better now a few years later so next summer it will be running and driving at least.

Yeah. I got Lucky and just saved a Perfect zero dings, zero rust 64 Valiant hardtop from ruining in weeds and pine trees 2 weekends ago. Factory buckets, top option interior. Excited to be pondering engine choices.
This was my very first car when I was 16, I had the 1969 Valiant 100 4 door with the slant 6, this video makes me wish I had never got rid of that car even though I wrecked it. Thanks for bringing back some good memories!
Just the fact that someone would build a car and show what the car could have looked like if people would have looked at the potential. Just like the ford Maverick grabber(70-72). Great job Man!
Nice...very, very nice!! The execution is flawless, and the presentation is not overwhelming. A LOT of fun for basic money and time. Parts for these are everywhere, and the go parts are common stuff interchangeable with just about any other Mopar. Good job! Now ya got me pumped!!

Wow, a lot of similarities here: I had a '69 Valiant back in the late seventies. Paid a few hundred for it, swapped in a 360 from a wrecked Furry III, replaced the steering box for a lightweight one, ended up running high 12's. Mine was originally purchased by a police lieutenant and had the 273 2bbl and AC. AC never worked, much to the dismay of a devastatingly beautiful co-worker, but the engine was great. Only swapped it out for the displacement bump. My 360 put out about 370chp, but was a mild build that kept going years after the car was killed. The 2.4 SRT4 is an interesting choice, and can be built up to 600hp at the wheels on factory stock internals. The bottom end on these engines can handle a lot of power, and the stroker race version has been tested to 1,500hp. I own a mild naturally aspirated version that has been bumped up to about 200hp and was raced for a couple years. The engine now has 245,000 miles on it and has never been opened. However, if the only reason going to a 2.4 is for handling, there are other ways: I ran a skinned hood, glass fenders, front fenderwells cut out, battery moved to trunk, and I also removed the diagonal bumper supports. At the track I also took off the front bumper and installed a fiberglass air dam instead. The combo worked well and handled nicely, but not as flat as this one due to the lack of swaybars. But, my F/R weight distribution was closer to neutral. I retired the car after the 1983 Grand Nationals at Detroit Dragway.
i envy you american guys for the possibilities you have when choosing a car to build !! that's a nice car man , and for the show : i noticed you guys tried a new shooting technique in this episode with the car going one way and the camera car going the other ; you guys are always stepping you game up :) nice work
..you mentioned the 'Green Brick Valiant', which was built by Richard Ehrenberg of Mopar Action Magazine. That lil bugger ran in the One Lap Of America race series and went toe to toe (one yr it lost only to the Mosler Raptor, a carbon fiber special built race car that broke the series' rules) on road courses with the likes of Viper, C5 Vette's, and various foreign exotica, no foolin. It had a Mopar R block stroker running like 390ish cubes, 5 spd manual and a whole bag of tricks, not limited to: re-enforced k frame, oil accumulator, frame connectors, Tri-Y headers for perf and ground clearance, NOS, (this is just from memory, read about it 20 yrs ago!) a light weight..magnesium i want to say..Mopar 8 3/4" rear, etc. If you can find old issues of MA magazine featuring the Green Brick, you'll be in for a real treat of a story! & yeah, stock based suspension, inc. de-arched superstock leaf springs and t-bars, no 'Magnum Farce' (Mustang 2 based) rubbish, as Mopars aren't designed to run coil springs, it's a horrible idea! the CG is then higher and further fwd and structurally, a Mopar uni-body is simply not designed for coils springs!! And whyyy??? Torsion bars are so far superior! ok, rant over, i love your Valiant!!!
The sound of the engine is a riot. Awesome. Great muscle car! Plus, I enjoyed hearing the owner and the way how he came to buy the car and what he made of it.
I had a 68 white Valiant - my second car ever . I pulled the slant 6 and went big block 383 w/727 trans manual valve body ! Now that was a fun car- wish I still had it !
One car that love to get ahold of if could find one to restore!Love the classic Mopars and really wish when dodge came out with the dart they kept it old school like the challenger.

This is basically my dream muscle car. The color, the model, the wheels. If it only have a turbo slant six, or Australian Hemi-6 it would be absolutely perfect in my eyes. Turbo 4 seems like a great idea, too.
Of the big 3 here in Nz and Australia... its definitely been val and hemi since the 70s n 80s for this kiwi guy. Dad had the Ranger. White in colour. Beautiful sound. 😊

I mean... Just listen to that thing. That engine sound is just addicting, no import, Euro or Japan will ever come close to the sound of an old American Classic Muscle Car. I love my WRX with it's 3 inch catless exhaust, has a deep tone for a 4 banger, but one day I'll buy an old muscle project car. I like cars that sound mean at idle :p
Whew, that's relieving haha. I mean, the SRT4 engines are lovely things, but your Valiant deserves more cylinders. It's an awesome car man, lovely color choice. Got the same on my '07 Daytona :)
Joose Funny thing is that my Valiant is the same weight as a Neon and a Toyota Supra 5 speed bolts right up with an adaptor. If I had the $$$ to do it I probably would. The car would handle so much better with all that weight off of the nose. I have a 1997 Magnum 360 sitting on a stand that will probably be built up with alluminum cyl heads and around 480hp without the supercharger.
I just picked up a 74 Dart swinger, running and driving 225 slant six with an A-904 trans for 900 bucks. It can be done people. Mine has power steering, but manual brakes, and it does have the little bit of play in steering that mike mentioned, but its pretty solid and runs good. Come citizens, join the A-body world.
As the previous owner of a Dodge 2.4L pushing 18 psi (390 ft lbs of torque at 2100 rpm) on factory SRT-4 internals and a factory first generation SRT-4 turbofold (The block came out of a '98 caravan. The only piece not OEM making these numbers in this Frankenstein configuration were the waste gate spring and the exhaust system,) all wrapped up in a 2,300lb first generation neon coupe chassis (take a breath) - please to jebus SRT swap the Valiant. My dad had a 70 340 Swinger Dart when he was my age. Long before my Mom met my Dad, she was driving a Valiant coupe at the same age... getting a handle on my brand loyalty at the time? I've since moved on and I'm pretty disheartened with the Dodge group and Ralph Gilles these days... I would still love to see that old(ish) Iron Chrysler block with a Lamborghini developed 16 valve head sitting between the rails of an A body "under pressure." My Dad inevitably had to sell his Dart, with the built block, shaved heads, racing transmission... etc. Watching him drop the clutch and spin two tires to 90 mph in my built and boosted little neon after years and years of driving pickup trucks to construction sites to feed our family - you could tell he was finally home. The blocks are bulletproof. Keep your EGT, water temps, and oil pressure in check - and it'll never die.
Mopar came out with the first Pony Car (Barracuda came out two weeks before the Mustang) and the first muscle car (1962 Plymouth Fury/Dart/Polara/Belvedere 413ci) and the first car built for performance and racing aka the Grand Daddy of muscle cars (1955 Chrysler 300 331 Hemi and later 392 Hemi). They also built more muscle cars and variety than there competitors. Barracuda/Cuda/Challenger/Dart/Demon/Duster/Charger/Challenger/Coronet/Fury/Valiant/SuperBird/SuperBee/RoadRunner/300/GTX/Scatpack/Polara/Belvedere and Im still missing a few there. They also built the first Sports Truck with the 1963 Dodge D100 with a 413 Max Wedge built to race and go fast, even coming with its own racing stripe.
Man, i ain't heard someone mention The Green Brick in years. It's like a dusty whisper breeze from the days. The Green Brick, Steal Bomber Diplomat and the Highway Star Cuda. Great old Mopars.
1965 Plymouth Valiant - 273 V8 67,000 original miles - bought it for $600, and a 1973 Plymouth Valiant /6 - bought for $650. These Valiants are known for their smooth suspension/rides. Also have a '65 'Cuda - bought it for $200 10 years ago, planning on building a 410 stroker eventually for the big fish.
awesome! I have a 70 Swinger 340 that I play to do some of this to. so far I have the Borgeson box, 2"drop sprindles, hugh jazz sway bar, bigger b body rotors, choice of .99 or 1.15 torsion bars (might use the .99s on my dirt Dart, 1.15 might be too much on dirt.) I have 17x7 Mustang wheels, ok, I know, I'm terrible, but we can't all buy new wheels! I have the Mopar performance 3-way adjustable oval track shocks for the front, and Monroe racing shocks for the rear.
NICE,, I had two of these cars in the late 80s . Both were brown and one was black interior w 225 slant six automatic and the other had light brown inside and 3 speed on tree w a 175 six,,, I miss them
A-bodies are good starter cars. I have 65 Valiant, picked it up for $500. Mopar parts are expensive, but exactly what this guy said in this video, "Put about $7000 in these cars, and you have a good starter car." I have a $5000 in mine, super close to being done.
That's the kind of Valiant Dennis Weaver should have had in Steven Spielberg's movie Duel. Nice to see the Valiant instead of the Dart for a change. Nice Car!
I met this guy who had a Dodge Dart and man oh man was it ever beautiful. It had a 360, I asked him how much power it made but they weren't sure exactly. It's the only A body I have ever seen in person
@5putput no. All that would do is make it front wheel drive.... and move the weight further forward... hence doing the exact opposite of what you want. Since transaxles are bigger so you’d actually have to move the engine forward unless you took out a huge chunk of transmission tunnel to make your front wheel drive wonder.
It's funny, but just as he was stating that this guy was thinking of taking out the V8, I was thinking that it would be neat to see a dual-turbo'ed 4-cylinder in the Valiant. Lo and behold, the next statement he made was of putting a clown 4-cylinder in it.
Spearfisher1970 I was trying to figure out where the cut off would be for making it worthwhile. I was thinking about a Mustang project with a 2.0L Ecoboost or a 5.0L V8. The Ecoboost engine is about 75 pounds lighter, but it's down by 168hp. Not sure if it's worth the effort. For comparison, the 3.5L Ecoboost V6 is 15 pounds heavier than the V8.
vipergtsrgt1 I'm really not sure. Between turbo boxer engines, the 2015 turbo 2.3L Mustang engine (which, if built correctly and buffed, might be able to put out goo numbers) and such... I would hope that some platform would both give light weight, hopefully a lower center of gravity, and nearly the same HP.
vipergtsrgt1 Ecoboost wouldn't even be worth it IMO. Coyote 5.0 will crank out 500 hp without even touching the heads or cams. Easy 430+ rwhp with bolt-ons, 91 octane.
It's an ad... You can get over it. If they have awesome videos and they use ad's to make money, so what.. You could spend the money and make your own channel with no ads.
This car is awesome. I really like the idea of the four banger. There's Plymouth Scamp being shown around the CA car shows that is even more incredible in the sense of high horsepower, incredible reliability, and handling. The owner chose the Globally known bad ass import motor the Toyota 2JZ-GTE Twin Turbo Inline Six Cylinder Dual Overhead Cam powerhouse engine. Next Jose Valle at Kaizen Motorsports removed the stock twin turbo and went big single turbo. The car is progressing beautifully, and much more is to come in the handling department. This would be a huge success to see it featured on this awesome channel.
Nice build, my parents had a 68 Valiant they bought brand new. In 1971 I bought a 65 Barracuda . Now I got a 2009 Challenger SE V6. Installed a cold air Intake. Exhaust sometime latter.
In Australia our VG Valiant Pacer had a 4bbl 4.0ltr Hemi 6 cyl engine with a 3 spd floorshift manual and ran mid 15's 14 mile. Our later VH model(google it) was an Australia design the Yanks did not pick up, we designed a stubby short wheel base Charger that ran the bigger 4.3ltr 6 with tripple webbers and got down to low 14's.
Great build of a model even I forget. Or at least I forget that the '69 Valiant looked more like the '70-72 than the '67-68 so for one year they built the 2-door sedan with a Duster-like face.
They all don't have 1/4 turn of play in the steering box, but a lot of them are very high mileage.Do you suppose the 297,000 miles may have something to do with it?
got a my 73 valiant for $500. miles are a mystery to me but it ran at the time. poor 225 was ran hard my the previous owner and finally died on me last night... rip 225 1973-2017. ENGINE SWAP HERE I COME!

I like cars that sound mean at idle :p
nah let it sleep at idle, and put a set of dumps on it for when you want to let somebody know they made a mistake
***** exactly! With an AMG one can also negotiate turns on high speed while the American muscle keeps going on straight in the bushes...
MisterNBG why dont you go and fuck urself?
MrRoyalrobbins bahaha good one. You win.
MisterNBG alright
Don't you dare put an SRT4 engine in that, Shannon!
Yeah probably not gonna happen Joose, it was just a thought.
redlinegw The only thing i can think about would be a HEMI Swap O.O
if it fits?
youjustgotowendbyme They dont fit well in A-bodys so I will stick with the small blocks's.
I have a 1997 Magnum 360 sitting on a stand that will probably be built up with alluminum cyl heads and around 480hp without the supercharger.
seeing those side vent windows brings back memories
of days before a/c.
Nice ride! You gotta paint a MOPAR a wild color. It's the MOPAR heritage.
Love it. The a bodies are fantastic. Lots of drool.
These cars are beautiful. I have a '73 2dr hardtop valiant factory a/c. They are underrated.
They also built the first Sports Truck with the 1963 Dodge D100 with a 413 Max Wedge built to race and go fast, even coming with its own racing stripe.
the sound is epic from that car
PROOF! when parts are free and discounted a car can be cool! YAAAAY
Man, i ain't heard someone mention The Green Brick in years. It's like a dusty whisper breeze from the days. The Green Brick, Steal Bomber Diplomat and the Highway Star Cuda. Great old Mopars.
Another great episode, Mike! Thanks!
Loved this Valiant! I'd keep just the way it is! It's beyond awesome!!!
Cool shot thru the passenger window at 8:45
1965 Plymouth Valiant - 273 V8 67,000 original miles - bought it for $600, and a 1973 Plymouth Valiant /6 - bought for $650. These Valiants are known for their smooth suspension/rides. Also have a '65 'Cuda - bought it for $200 10 years ago, planning on building a 410 stroker eventually for the big fish.
Such an awesome car! Great job Shannon!
If he does the 2.4, we need to see the updated version, I'd love to see that
Both were brown and one was black interior w 225 slant six automatic and the other had light brown inside and 3 speed on tree w a 175 six,,, I miss them
I would absolutely love to have a 1969 Valiant, beautiful cars
The Valiant and the Dart were 2 of the finest cars of that era.
Badass and tastefully done!! Love muscle cars
Love the videos Mike . . . Stay Frosty .
Nice Car!
Don't forget the Valiant featured in Duel.
I met this guy who had a Dodge Dart and man oh man was it ever beautiful. It had a 360, I asked him how much power it made but they weren't sure exactly. It's the only A body I have ever seen in person
don't put a neon motor in that beautiful car
I'm glad someone else felt the same as I did when I heard that....
Spacelyz Rockit,you must not race,
Drifting around a corner slows you down.
@5putput uhm. That’s now how that works
@5putput oh god you’re talking about doing it like a GTR sans the foreword driveshaft
Another great episode! Someday I'll have a car worthy of being on /Drive.
I wan to see a car on bug muscle with a V10 or V12. V8's are great but they are vastly oversaturated in rebuilt/redone cars. We need to see variance!
It's funny, but just as he was stating that this guy was thinking of taking out the V8, I was thinking that it would be neat to see a dual-turbo'ed 4-cylinder in the Valiant. Lo and behold, the next statement he made was of putting a clown 4-cylinder in it.
Hello! See and subscribe to my channel Clips accidents from Russia.
WTF an Advertisement interrupted this video at 8:30. That's unacceptable. Great car. Sucky ad policy.
Get Adblock and you won't have to worry about that kind of crap. getadblock.com/
Bum Central
Squinting, hands wiping away the light
I emerge from the darkness
"adblock: what's that"? I say tentatively .
TBC . . .
It's an ad... You can get over it. If they have awesome videos and they use ad's to make money, so what.. You could spend the money and make your own channel with no ads.
WeirdAuto I didn't see an ad at 8:30. I've had adblock for years.. I didn't know it worked on youtube.... hmmm good to know.
Use adblock then there will be no ad's that's what I do :)
Badass valiant really like the 67-9s
Love Early Mopars!
I have a 71 Plymouth Valiant Scamp, Plum Crazy Purple. A real head turner.
love the fact he's got a Paxton supercharger. those are way overlooked.
One badass lookin' Valiant :D
Nice build, my parents had a 68 Valiant they bought brand new. In 1971 I bought a 65 Barracuda . Now I got a 2009 Challenger SE V6. Installed a cold air Intake. Exhaust sometime latter.
SICK!!! Mopar or no car!!!
Love my valiant
:)
LOL thats a aussie built car no wonder you guys love it :P
dude a srt4 valiasnt? im drooling!
Great build of a model even I forget. Or at least I forget that the '69 Valiant looked more like the '70-72 than the '67-68 so for one year they built the 2-door sedan with a Duster-like face.
Great episode guys
Totally reminds me of the One-Lap Brick Valiant.
They all don't have 1/4 turn of play in the steering box, but a lot of them are very high mileage.Do you suppose the 297,000 miles may have something to do with it?
Long live the prince Valiant!👍
all around a beautiful car,
I'm putting together a 67 Valiant, but it has a 69 hood and grill assembly to get away from the granny look. It's getting a 57 Desoto 341 hemi.
It would be cooler if he went to Australia and got a built Hemi Six for it instead of the SRT4 engine.
hendo337 yeah that would be cool but would much rather see a Hellcat motor in it, or even a 6.1 and 6.4 instead
no way everyone is doing the 6.1 or 6.4 swap
79tazman don't care what everyone is doing, I'd do it for the better performance
I miss my 76 valiant such a cool car
Awesome car and review.
got a my 73 valiant for $500. miles are a mystery to me but it ran at the time. poor 225 was ran hard my the previous owner and finally died on me last night... rip 225 1973-2017. ENGINE SWAP HERE I COME!
Big Muscle episode without a burnout?
What I love and what I hate about these videos...you're giving me TOO MANY IDEAS!!! lol
