  • How do you pull 1 pass lines?
In this video I go over and dive into the approach that I take upon pulling 1 pass lines. For me my style of tattoos are greatly around dense lines and tattoos with a lot of details. So a LARGE portion of my tattoos are lined based. So naturally my approach is to get into the skin as smooth and precise as possible and get out as quick as possible while ensuring I input the ink as I need.
So in order to do this there are multiple variables that I consider upon pulling 1 pass lines. I consider the setup I am using which will impact the overall approach I take to achieve 1 pass lines. I am considering the voltage in which I am comfortable with lining at, I am considering the needle depth in which the needle goes into the skin. I am considering how far my needle hangs out of my tattoo machine as well. I am also considering how fast my hand is moving for my voltage I am using.
You can see there is multiple variables we should consider upon pulling nice, clean, crisp 1 pass lines. I am certain this may vary from artist to artist however this concept and idea is the approach I personally use to pull 1 pass lines.
The CNC X1 is also very easy to wrap, maintain, assemble, disassemble, not to mention it is compatible with all major needle cartridges on the market. This tattoo machine is a no brainer for anyone whom is looking for a new high quality tattoo machine.
If you are interested in learning more about the CNC-X1 tattoo machine I will link you to this awesome machine right here www.cnctattoo.com/shop/cnc-ro...

Nice video, the finger drag is something I was never able to make work personally, but that leverage is so key to maintaining depth consistency. I like seeing this technique even though I have a different method to leverage the depth using the side of my hand & fist.
Another major factor for me is if the cartridges fit well in the machine. Some brands just don't fit well in my machine causing wobbling and excessive vibration which obviously makes one pass more challenging. Surprisingly, I don't find Big Wasp to be too bad even though it's one of the much cheaper brands. My fav affordable cartridge brand is Stigma for sure..
Thanks for taking the time to share this knowledge, you're awesome

Daniel thank you so much for this video! The simplicity of the use of your middle finger in position behind the tube has made all the difference for me, literally a breakthrough! I have been watching a lot of videos from a lot of artists and have not had much success. I’m not a young kid in my 20s I’m in my 50s and I was getting quite frustrated and was about to give up thinking maybe I’m just too old to do this, I’ve been through numerous practice skins and all kinds of fruit but didn’t have the confidence to actually start on real human skin. But today I said fuck it! and went ahead and did something simple on my thigh. You videos are humble and eloquent that make perfect sense...thank you again!

Great video thanks for all the good lessons. one thing about this video is the audio. I am listening to it on my JBL's in my living room and I can hear a constant thumping like a heartbeat going through the whole video. Is this a microphone artifact? or was this meant to sound like that? I am hyper sensitive to these kind of little back ground noises and it's making it hard for me to finish the lesson. Other than my complaint that is very minor and probably only effects ME your videos are great, I subscribed. I used to tattoo back in the day with the old acetate stencils it's been over 40 years and I just got back into the idea of tattooing again but I am working on fake skin to get back into doing them with a coil machine I've had for years and boy was I out of whack. I don't plan on touching anyone with a needle until I am back to my former glory of doing great traditional style tattooing. I just ordered a Mast tattoo pen and it wasn't really expensive around 300.00 but I am wondering if I should actually use this machine on anyone after I start doing them again or should I go for a more expensive better name brand machine?

What stroke do you suggest using on the fake skin. It seems that its either too light (always having to go back over them) or too deep (cutting the skin)

Do you even recommend lining with a RS? Every time I’ve done it i can see the lines from the needles it doesn’t look as solid as if I used a liner. What am I doing wrong

Quick question. Wouldn’t the stencil smear off if you’re dragging your middle finger with the needle? And also I’m pretty comfortable doing vertical lines But having a hard time doing line horizontally. Any tips on that? (I try not to rotate my fake skin around, and think of it as an actual body part)

Personally I turn around my client, when it’s possible, to pull the line to me ! I think it’s the more stable configuration to keep the right depth. I stand up sometimes, putting my elbows and forearms on the client / the table / the arm rest table when it’s possible too

Thing is... This all changes with skin because of the many skin types and areas on the body skin differs also. Like the upper leg. Very fleshy then as you move towards the knee the skin is totally different

Yeah your hand speed has to match the voltage and you got to be on you got to be smooth you got to stretch the skin different things like that

Do you prefer to use those blue shop rags for wiping the skin, or classic paper towels? i have to use paper towels a tonne, and it's just alot of waste sometimes.

      Thats a great question!
When it comes to fake skin I will use scott shop wipes all day but when it comes to human skin I will only use MDWipeOutz tattoo wipes. I prefer to use MDWipeOutz for human skin as it is a sterile dedicated tattoo wipe and is designed for tattooing.
I like to get my wipes and cut them in half making them into little squares to get more wipes from a sheet. I will link you below to the wipes I use on my end. Should you have any questions please let me know.

What is the stroke of your machine? 4.0? 3.7? 3.5?

  • @steve8234
    @steve8234 2 роки тому +4

I'm not a tattoo artist, I know nothing about this art. That being said, I feel like I can hear a good cadence from your machine when you're moving it at the right speed and voltage. It sounds much different when you're going to fast or slow. Do you use auditory cues as a guide, or is it mostly just the general feel of everything?
On a side note, when I was in high school, a dude in my class was an amazing artist. He told us back then (over 20 years ago; late 90s) that he was going to be a tattoo artist. We didn't think much of it, and I definitely didn't think it was really going to turn into a legitimate career for him. Again this was over 20 years ago and tattooing wasn't as socially acceptable. Fast forward to today, and that same dude is doing amazing. He's one of the most successful people in our graduating class. He has his own shop, and travels all over the place to do conventions. This is a great business to get into if you are artistic. I bet a lot of our teachers would be very surprised to see that guy today... he's kicking ass.

is it ok to go over lines again if you don't get it dark enough the first time? I figure that leaves room for error, but I'd also be worried about hurting the client more

@@DrownedPirate it’s okay to overlap once or twice, but it can cause unnecessary damage to the skin and make healing time longer, I’ve been struggling with needing to overlap too that’s why I’m here 🤣
