    I think the reason Wembanyama has fewer contested shots than others by a considerable margin is that opponents players shoot less when he's around (combined with the fact that he has fewer minutes). He's such a good defender that his stats suffer from it, and I'm not even joking! The last team that forgot that fact got punished, when he put up 10 blocks against Toronto.

    wemby or ad should win it for sure, and i know how insane it is to pick a rookie but i'm really leaning toward wemby. he's literally such an amazing defender that his stats are worse for it because teams don't want to shoot as much when he's on the court and he can't get his numbers up.

    • @whatshorts
      @whatshorts  4 місяці тому

      I think it could be wemby. his numbers are deniably good. 3.2 blocks is crazy and 1.1 steals. no question for me.

    With all due respect, Anthony Davis’ actual DRTG is 109.7 this year, NOT 103.3 as said in the video.
    Gobert has a 104.3 DRTG, which is way higher than Davis’, making him the clear favorite to win(not just DRTG but practically any defensive stat suggests so).
    If Davis’ DRTG was actually 103.3, it would make no sense as to how the Lakers’ team DRTG is waaay lower than a 103 given that he’s on the floor for long stretches.
    I know your a Laker fan but I’d appreciate it if you’d at least get the stats right.

    Isn’t defensive rating a team stat ? Would be more relevant to look at difference in defensive rating on and off the court, then you would see the individual impact

    • @whatshorts
      @whatshorts  4 місяці тому

      It's a player stat too. Same equation applied to a player per 100 possessions

And he has the most versatility on the defensive end than anyone on this list and can block shots from inside the paint to the arc i don't think his team really affects him as an individual defensive anchor to me hes the best defender or possibly gobert

    Defensive rebounding is 100% part of defense, not just because it's in the name, but because it ends an opponent's offensive possession and secures possession for your own team. Bad boxing out and bad defensive rebounding equals offensive boards for the opposition, and offensive boards for the opposition lead to fouls and giving up easy points. So yes, defensive rebounding is a part of defense.
