You did an awesome job! It took me a whole summer to learn just the basics of this groove back in the day. I started fooling around with the chords while in church one Sunday back in late 86 range. This is a classic groove. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you very much, it is an amazing tune, I love the clunky loose intro, it's almost like an old silent movie chase scene. Thanks for taking the time to comment. How did you get on with it, do you still play? 🎹
Ahh brilliant mate, I been playing the main riff for ages, I been after the intro for ages. I'll take some bits and pieces from the intro and come up with a simple version, thanks....
Cheers amigo, you're very welcome, it's a belter, but really quite tough, like you say, just have a mess around with the chords and add a few grace notes to give it that bluesy feel 👍🏻
Snap. Being playing the riff as well, and only today on the motorway driving was listening to it and thought I’d love that intro.brilliant. Keep the videos flowing there really appreciated.
@@philipslade6810 it's a fantastic intro, instantly recognisable, hope it helps. I'll do Injected With a Poison over the next couple of weeks. Enjoy pal 🎹👍🏻
Thank you Sina. That's a part I really enjoy as it's quite a challenge, trying to pick out the tone of the original instruments used. The process I use is to layer multiple sounds, make one bright and on pitch, then add another layer, not necessarily of the same style piano. I then detune this one as much as it needs to thicken the sound up and make it have that slightly rough honky tonk sound. You can also play around with different attack on each to offset the sound further. I run the keyboard through ableton which means adding layers is even easier as I can play back the recording and tweak the sound/add more layers afterwards. All the best with it 👍🏻🎹
It looks hard but the main chord shapes are straightforward. It's probably just the grace notes that make it seem tricky. All best with it Gareth, you can always add them after 👍🏻
I wish it was the original jupiter 8, they're worth 25 grand 🙈 No, it's the re launched model from about 8 years ago, the Jupiter 80, I paid £2,200 new for it (with a free ipad........ Not so free at that price) .... It'd be nice if its worth that much in 30 years. Probably not though 😂
@@11guyinthechair 😂..... And the worst thing is, because I'm so busy doing my house up, it's not getting any shorter 🙈 It's all good for future ideas though, I love the suggestions, they're giving me a lot more to think about playing wise. I could do with streamlining the recording/editing process really 👍🏻
@@rubberpiano Accidentally stumbled on your channel, first thing I liked is your videos are straight forward and to the point. No 30 second intros as so on. Really enjoy the content.Keep it up, gonna take my yamaha digital piano out of its box and start practicing again!
@@11guyinthechair thank you, I really appreciate your feedback, they are better quick and to the point. I just thought, what would I prefer , tutorial wise. 😁 Enjoy the keyboard, it's a great hobby to have, I love it, I still have a go most days, ultimate chill time 🎹
@jonasscheldt6768 good morning Jonas, I didn't use any strings just a couple of pianos detuned I seem to remember. This gave it that bar piano sound. The other hiss sound is a reversed hi hat I think. 👍🏻
😂😂😂 Oh no he didn't........ That'd be even more complicated than just being able to play fast. Pitch.... . Matching tempo..... Matching video..... Nice try Columbo 😜🔍
@@rubberpiano oh dear. Read Marshall's book. He DID record it at 60 bpm, and then sped it up to 120 on his sequencer. He's very explicit and humble about this, and claims no great keyboard talent. He hadn't even learned any instruments when he recorded it.
@@BarneyTrouble1 🙈 I thought you meant me doing this version..... As in, he's cheating! My bad 😂 Fascinating, I'll have a read. I'd love to see/hear the original at the speed it was played, it must have still been tricky. That also explains the clunky sound between some parts of the playing. Cheers 👍🏻
@@rubberpiano I only started reading it 3 days ago. If you like music from this era, it's fascinating. With his technique, he probably would not have recorded the song, and then sped it up. He recorded the midi note pattern , and then when increasing the tempo it plays the notes faster (at the same pitch). He could also lengthen and shorten all the notes with a single command to adjust to this new tempo. He pretty much admits he was cheating 😂
@@BarneyTrouble1 that's mad, I didn't realise that technique existed back then. It's a genius way of tidying the whole thing up, and I can't say I'm not entirely guilty free of a touch of quantization and note length/velocity clean up with these. The wonders of midi. The best part is being able to adjust the sound or add an identical layer of a slightly different piano to fatten the tone. What's the book called please? Is it just his autobiography?
"Doing it justice-ish" is selling yourself short. That sounds phenomenal :-)

That is nothing short of awesome! My favourite track of all time , THE house tune , great work
Cheers Leonard, it's a fantastic tune, definitely one of the greatest dance tracks. Hope you find the demo useful 👍🏻
Great rendering of the original! Cheers!
No wonder “it’s fast!”
Your accompanying beat is was faster than the original!
Well done for as you say ‘deciphering this riff though! 👏🏼
@Alexander_Stevens 😂😂😂 cheers, it does seem a bit too quick, listening back 🙈
There's a lot of frankie knuckles in here, in a good way!
Love the intro of this song! Thanks for the breakdown! :)
You're very welcome, it's best guess but hopefully it'll allow you to start on the right lines 🎹👍🏻😁
Yea, this was like the start of it in the UK, think I was about 15 when I bought this record 😊🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯💥💥🙂

😲 well that should keep me busy.
Looks like fun anyway, nice work again buddy!
😁 I think my keyboard is wondering what the hell it's done wrong, cheers matey 👍🏻
So good,
Thank you 👍🏻
Fantastic job matching the sound design. Any tips on how to get that bright dance piano/honky/detuned sound you described?

Wow... could you please do one on Black Box - I Don't Know Anybody Else?
Will do, cheers. Interesting choice, it's a good use of the Korg M1 🎹 👍🏻
Could I suggest Zenana - Compulsion as one of your upcoming tutorials?
