Sounds like he could have had way more success than he has realized. Some people love to take advantage of other people. Loads of talented stars from yesteryear will never get their due credit($$$$$) and recognition for paving the way for folks today.
I feel lucky to be one of those Black teens who grew up in Chicago during the creation of House. I remember dancing to this classic at the BOX. The creation of the club scene late 80s and early 90s in Chicago was incredible. The way House music was accepted globally, then all the sub-genres and modern EDM, changed the dance music / DJ scene forever. Thank you, Marshall and Point Blank!
Thanks for the vid! Being a long time Zeppelin fan, I've never heard of them slowing down, then speeding up all their songs in the studio because they weren't good enough. Black Dog wasn't sang an octave lower and sped up, that would've sounded like Alvin and the Chipmunks! I believe those songs were all recorded in their natural keys. Maybe an exception here and there as it's been a studio trick for years.
Play "The Song Remains The Same" album and the movie at the same time. The album is clearly faster and a higher key than the movie. They didn't record a whole octave lower, maybe a few notes lower.
@@tomorrow21 Hey Marshall, thanks for the reply! So I re-listened to the studio version and the live version from the movie of The Song Remains the Same. The studio version starts off in D, and so does the live version, both are played in the same key. I tapped out a tempo for the studio version at 146bpm, and the live version is actually a little faster at 150bpm, until the vocals come in and both versions drastically slow down. They were known to play songs differently live a lot. And if the songs are slower, it's probably because they were drunk, high or both.
@@uv77mc85 apples vs oranges. Sampler vs synthesizer. Having said that, and being an owner of a prophet 5, 600 and three 2000s, the filter of the 2000 (cem) is awesome, and the sampling engine is top notch.
What other electronic music legends do you want to hear from?
a guy called gerald
Dennis Ferrer
Steve Rachmad
masters at work, little louie vega, henry street music
Eddie Perez.
Being a Chicagoan and a lover of house music, Marshall is a true legend. This was an absolute pleasure to listen to.
Thanks so much for checking it out!
Big facts
Legend in the building, pay homage players 🙏🏼
What a Legend. Great talk and I still play that track and the crowd still go nuts for it.
A true house music legend right here.
Agreed!
Thank you for posting this interview.
*Love this!*
Hi Wanderlust
Us too!
I saw Marshall live in 88 doing a DJ set. LEGEND.
As a synthwave producer who mixes electronic music with heavy metal, I'm overjoyed to learn the creator of house music is a rocker.

Brilliant. Great interviewer aswell 👏
Was so good to attend this event in April! Siting right in front of Marshall ✊🏻 amazing

I discovered this legendary track while playing GTA San Andreas listening to the in-game radio... I've loved it ever since!
Wow. Talk about inspiration and creativity.
great interview, 👍
❤
That’s a good story.

The technique itself isn't always used in the same way. The guitar solo in 'A Hard Day's Night' for example.

It was also played in the famous game by rockstar GTA San Andreas

This was wonderful!!! Thank you Point Blank Music School and Marshall!! Absolute Pioneers🙌💯💜
Can you feel the soul from this beautiful person ! Makes my hair stand up ❤
Ours too!
Wow! Amazing event, and a great spot of Black history within, as well... Thank you to whoever made this event possible.
Listen to his story..he is a nerdy genius. Same as steve woznyack (not steve jobs). Genius
Yup! Stone-cold legend.
It's cool that I live that era in Chicago. Glad to see you doing good Marshall Jefferson.
He isa living legend.
Sounds like Larry Sherman, the founder of Trax, bamboozled Marshall Jefferson. This is what Prince, Kanye, and others speak about.
Not uncommon in that era!
Awesome !
This was fantastic!!
Thanks for watching!
Oh so that's why some 45s sound good and natural at 33.3. Probably their original recording was at slower speed
What Marshal did was sequence at a slower speed. Not record at a slower speed.
I just love how giving he is, love it when musicians have no qualms about sharing their tricks of the trade
Founding father of electronic music??? 😂😂😂 You mean HOUSE.
Sorry the Prophet 2000 sounds fantastic, way better than today vsts.
Bet it doesn't sound as good as the prophet 5
