excited to see a "part 1" on this! as a game maker who tries to approach them as an expressive art, and maybe puts *too* much thought into my own work, i LOVE all your videos on the subject. game design rules
this gets to the heart of why I, despite my complete incompetence at programming and thus mechanically complex solo dev, have been resisting doing visual novels and trying to get at least some "walking simulators" projects: nothing wrong with vns, I like playing them, but the ability to inhabit a space and environment in a game feels really important to what I want to do with my work, so thank you for giving me purpose to keep trying to work with it instead of settling for something that doesn't feel right to me.
yea! keep at it, a lot of great games come from the process of discovering how to tell stories using the tools we have available for programming and design. im hoping to try to make a game that functions as an art installation for a local seasonal museum next year, but we'll see
@@MalmroseProjects Best of lucks with that! You always had to say very insightful things about game design so anything you make is going to be interesting to see. Myself I've been in the rpgmaker trenches because it's the only way I'll get anything done on my own, because I think the player's self pacing and curiosity can bring a lot to the experience. Again I really don't want to knock on vns/twines, I like playing them, I just want the environment you can't get through text alone.
