I hope you enjoyed! Sea dragon is one of my most requested video topics, now that it's done is there any other ship from history (real or concept-only) you'd like to see?
One point I didn't mention in the video is the lack of second-stage bell expansion for my Sea Dragon. The real rocket would have had an expanding nozzle on the second stage, which unfortunately is not possible to create in KSP. There are of course some artistic liberties here and there, but that's the great thing about recreating "alternate history" - there's no real physical counterpart to be compared to ;)
Also, first.

As far as I'm concerned, if Kerbin's closest moon is called "Mun", we should be able to call its sun "Soon".
*ahh yes we will soon go to the s o o n.*
@@sovietmusiclover8466 Don't worry, we'll launch it at night.
I wish it was called Soon, unfortunate how it’s named Kerbol
Yes because soon we are going to start flying into it

That's something I wish was a description of my life.

Nice reference bro
“That’s why we are launching it from the middle of the ocean karen”
You meant Eelonium?
Everyone: “How big is the engine gonna be?”
Matt: “Yes”
I havent watched the video yet, so I don't know if he mentions this, but the engine bell on the Sea Dragon is so massive that the entire first stage of the Saturn V can fit inside it with room to spare!
is that a graystillplays refrence?

Very clever how you did it Matt! Especially in stock KSP.
I tried making one but failed with the big engine and the 4 side mounted engine, I couldn’t get the triangular shape right
@@bonbin6053 It is cool how he did it.
@Ry Guy I tried doing it before and it is REALLY hard!

Matt, you inspired me to finally grt KSP, now I'm addicted. I write code to simulate satellites in my day job, and now I make satellites in my spare time. Space has consumed me. The darkness has become my friend. Thanks 😁
Sounds like an interesting job! I'm in the process of choosing some masters modules and am interested what kinds of things you studied to end up on your career, if you wouldn't mind sharing?
@@Checkedbox Sounds like you've got the right mindset! I studied Aviation Technology at Uni, but I've always had a great interest in computing and programming. In truth, whilst software development skills are important, more generalised specialities like physics, engineering, or computer science matter more. Any of these can land you a solid graduate programme offer, though competition is pretty high at present given the present situation internationally.
It's important to make yourself as useful as possible to the industry you're going into. It is good to develop an array of skills like communication, networking, presenting, and learning good documentation practices. This is the most boring part, but it is essential to the wider business and thus the success of any big project.
I landed on the Space sector by the will of the wise folk at my firm's recruitment team. They figured that being a computer and aviation nerd, I'd love to develop in SatCom. They were, of course, spot on.
Sell your qualities as a package, not just your education, but your whole personality and breadth of knowledge and experience. And last but not least, when job hunting - persevere! (and watch out for the dodgy indentured labour, 'training in arrears' type places).
P.s. Space is cool. If you've got the right passion, it'll take you *almost* anywhere.

"I thought I was wrong once, turns out I was mistaken".
Best line of the video
That is exactly what I thought.
Matt: Your engine solution is actually pretty spot-on as the study pointed out a single chamber engine the size needed for the first stage was likely to have as serious of development problems as the early F1's did and it was proposed to solve these by using multiple combustion chambers feeding into a single nozzle instead of one big one.
Dear Matt Lowne,
Due to this upload causing me sheer excitement, I clicked so hard that there is now a crack in my left mouse button. Since the cause of this is your upload, I request payment of £10 to be shipped for compensation. Failure to comply will result in termination.

Looks like someone watched “For all Mankind”
Lol
I don’t have Apple TV :(
I have never seen that show, but the Sea Dragon has always been a super famous concept and wasn't "made famous" by some apple TV show. Googling it shows it was just an end-credit scene anyway?
@@MattLowne I thought you said goggling lol
Matt Lowne yep, it was shown only after credits. Just for now it’s the best visualization of Sea Dragon we have, except your ksp replica, of course) I highly recommend you to watch this TV series, I think you'll love it!

Mango Man thanks I’m still to get the kerbals back alive
Speaking of Solar orbit stations... when I first started playing this game I crashed on the Mun and decided to do a rescue mission. The rescue mission, of course ran out of fuel attempting to enter orbit around the Mun and the resulting gravity slingshot put the rescue craft into orbit around Kerbin's star forever. RIP whoever was on either of those missions xD

amazing looking craft. Great job.
Security's really high. Look at that. There's a hole carrier task force out there.
Solar comes from Sol, the actual name of the sun, which would make this the Kerbolar System, and your solar station is actually a kerbolar station.

Hi mate just got back into KSP and watching some of your videos is awesome you make it all look so easy :) and really like watching your videos thanks mate keep up the great work take care
love the video its amazing to see how people are so good at creating stuff on ksp i cant even reach the moon on sandbox mode keep up the good work matt :D
Sea dragon is perhaps the chonkiest rocket yet designed
And the biggest reuseable rocket concept
I didnt realized how recent this was until now.
Hello Matt! I'm a new subscriber and I have to be honest, I can't stop watching your videos, they're super entertaining! Keep up the great work
Finally Matt lowne makes this. I've been waiting for years
The song that starts playing in my head
Everybody wants to rule the world
oh from for all mankind
Make a vidoe of falcon heavy with four booster please or please try to make a fuel minning Base on moon please and love your vidoes
Oh cool bring back the gray dragon mission
Raiz Space already tried the 4-booster Falcon Heavy concept in KSP, and it kinda worked...
We've been waiting for this video for ages, and finally is here!
What an awesome idea using the payload fairings as a rocket nozzle. Im definetely gonna use that now in my interplantary freighter!
I tried making one myself a few month back, then I saw on stratzenblit’s video and watered to see how you would make the engine. It was so obvious. I got all of my inspiration from “for all mankind” which I’m sure you’ve seen the clip about the sea dragon
EPIC
Very clever how you managed to make a huge engine with only stock parts. Also, I find the twist very interesting. Life is full of surprises.
The vtol you referred to is indeed called the osprey! That would make an amazing Laythe base hopper.
Maybe use a colonisation mod and call it "Life on Laythe Season 2" or something else
While it would be really cool, I've only ever seen Matt play stock except for Planet packs and tools
I know how to start in the ocean. You just hold shift with the offset tool and drag a very long way
This was real idea for a rocket ship. I recommend watching “For all man kind” end credits. Pretty epic scene
Like always some really good content. Good job :)

When first I heard about this rocket concept, I wasn't aware it was a rocket. I thought it was a Sea Dragon Leviathan from Subnautica. Building that in this game, fully stock, would be impressive.
You play too much subnautica XD
This video is cool you are so good at building rockets that looks just like the sea dragon
I always wanted sea dragon thx matt
Have you ever considered trying RSS and RP-1, maybe when one of your current series has ended. Think it would be cool to see these big rockets in a realistically scaled solar system
Yeah that would be cool

Its a Rocket even tho it launches from the sea
