im building a VW sand-rail thanks for explaining and sorting out the rims situation im not using those stock tinny front wheels,, im switching to what you did :) good work
Really cool vehicle -- the concept, design, and construction -- all top notch. I love the look of the tires, too. I was hoping to use something like those M/T's on the front of a vehicle, also, but Summit advised against it. They said those were for the rear only and recommended something more heavily treaded. I'm glad to see they work on the front.
i have one very similar you can buy ! except mine has a turbo honda motor and 5 speed trans and makes 225hp at the tire reply to me if you wanna buy it haha
What makes it look so badass is the wide drag radials on all four corners and the front body panels. The only thing is change if it was mine is id put a turbo Suzuki hyabusa 1350cc engine. Stock the motor makes about 190hp but once you put it on something like the street rail you can get cold air intake which alone would get you to a little over 200hp. With the mods id do which are cold air intake, titanium headers and exhaust (cut to work with the buggy) power commander 7 (or whatever is the newest) vortex velocity stacks, bigger injectors, higher flow fuel pump, and a larger radiator. That would make with a good tune about 230+hp to the wheel. Then after all that id run a t66 turbo which should take it from 230hp to 400hp and have a high rpm and higher rev limiter . OH YEAH!!!! I ALMOST FORGOT THE BEST PART...THE EXHAUST SOUND.LOL THANKS for reading this and have a great day
Modern turbo 4cylinders rev out to 3,000-3,500rpms on the freeway but some better gearing probably wouldn't hurt. Looks like a blast awesome and unique build
Amazing project, I really liked it. My only concern is about the opened front. It may cause some damage to your under parts if small stones come in when driving on roads.
@@di11ard I was always told to run on bald skinny front tires, because of rocks, on an open front end. It is nice to see You wearing a helmet, because I would not ride in that without one. The breeze, from below is nice, but I have come home with sand , bugs, fleas, chiggers and debris inside my underwear and clothing. Be safe with those open wheels.
Those VW transaxles don't like to shift fast (custom built boxes are an exception). We used to grind gears all day in my neighbors rail years back. Short shifters can make them even grumpier, lol
this thing is so so sick.. Kudos to the builder, the imaginer, and the funder(er).... BUT, I was so hyped after watching all the walk around, so ready to drop my jaw when this thing was spinning tires in 3rd gear pulls.... only to be let down by the most boring drive video of a bad ass car ever! so for that i give a 9.9 on this video!
buy mine my man. very similar to this but has a turbo honda motor and 5 speed trans. makes 225 at the tire but can be turned up to 500 wheel but i never have it hits limiter very quick at 225 because of how light it is
I just picked up one similar on Craigslist same turbo motor but it’s an auto front wheel engine rail. Im thinking I may go a little more dual purpose with my build but that looks fun!
di11ard You know as many projects as I’ve had over the years I should but I get busy turning wrenches and I’m lucky to get a good before and after normally. I had a 1600 VW before that was a blast so I’m looking forward to this. Had to put it on the back burner for winter but getting ideas 👍
Incredible!! Car and build this thing looks like it came outa motorstorm!!! Truly the best buggy I ever seen!!! UNIQUE my only gripe I that u didn't push it😥 disappointing
Hey there, thanks for the video your street rail looks great! By any chance do you remember the offset on the front rims? Are the close to rubbing on full lock?
Something don't add up with your power output numbers...with your current setup you should see north of 200 hp and well over that in torque. I've been wanting to build a turbo coupe beetle for a while now and I'm really familiar with the engine. I know just by swapping that engine and trans into a short wheel base ranger and using 3.73 gears it will consistently run in the 12's in stock form .
@@di11ard Ford engine. I want to do what you did but to a fenderless bettle. My son wants to make a sleeper and I know I can get three hundred hp and torque from the turbo coupe engine. The trick is finding a trans that will handle the way I drive😈
@@ItsDaJax I am fully sure they do. That's where I'm getting mine from. 😉 It's what got me looking up to see if any one has put a 2.3 turbo in a beetle. But now that I've seen his camber set up and lengthened swing arms I will make it happen on my own. I think it will give better handling along with the wide wheels and short over long arm front suspension.....I want this thing to look like it's ready for laps on the Nuremberg ring. 😈
pretty sure you can get transverse boxes to work with the lima/pinto. that would improve handling a lot, turning it into a mid engine, rear bias, with smth like 65r-35f instead of a rear engine rear bias with 75+r 25f like it is.
Great build but,....did I hear that right? On 12 lbs of boost it only made 174 horsepower? That's pretty weak for those motors. Is it in need of a rebuild?
Hello, i got a few questions. what wheel bearings are you running, specs? and what wheel bearing conversion kit are you using? and what brake kit are you using? Other than that, really cool build, love the way it looks!!! Currently I'm in the midst of building a street rail that had a vw drivetrain, and i am swapping it out with a 500hp 385 stoker Chevrolet mated to a 986 Boxster 5 speed transaxle. at the moment, trying to come up with a solution for my drive train, such as choosing my axle, wheel bearing, and brake setup. so yeah, lmk. Cool Build!!!!
Hey can you give dimensions of the frame as it sat in this video if possible? I am in love with the look and would possibly love to learn to build after this pandemic is finished, hope you been safe my friend! If giving the dimensions isn’t possible and the frame was bought and not built can you give the name of the company that built it?
You know your rear shocks are upside down. They are not designed to work that way, the gas charge should always be at the top of the shock where the shrader valve is. Turn them over, add some air pressure before you invest in new rear springs.
@@di11ard I still wouldn't have a idea how cost-effective that would be though , but way more fun to drive I'm guessing it could be more fun to drive if set up right of course , thanks for your time it's a very beautiful car no doubt and enjoy the thing as much as you can , and of course family, 🙏✝️ Blessings brother
