I don't think eliminating the scan visor is the right way to go at all. It's what makes Prime different and unique from other FPS/A, you're almost like a detective figuring out clues and information on the world and like you said, it isn't mandatory all the time. You only use it to scan panels for activating elevators, deactivating force fields and the occasional scan if you're having trouble fighting a boss. That's about it. I would 100% prefer the scan visor being there over overbearing NPCs or annoying narrators telling everything about the events of the game or what you need to do or even worse, cutsecenes that just take away from the interaction altogether. The scanning is a way to let the player decide how much info he or she wants. It's perfect.
It would honestly break my heart if they reduced the number of things you can scan in Prime 4; it's one of my favorite aspects of the series. They could probably have a more nuanced color-coding system for what's important and what's flavor text, but I've beaten this game dozens of times and still read every piece of flavor text in the game. It helps me immerse myself in the world
I mean, they did that exact thing starting with MP2. Objects that could be scanned would be highlighted in their entirety, and would change colors depending on whether it had been scanned or not.
@@InfernalDrake117 When I say "nuanced", what I mean is differentiate the scans critical for progression from logbook scans while keeping them different from the purely flavor text scans. Perhaps even differentiate scans tgat activate things from those that give hints for breakable blocks
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is going to blow everyone’s mind if it ever gets remastered like this, I’ve never felt dread like that in a game on first time play, the atmosphere is impeccable.
The controls for the Gamecube and Wii releases are in the settings by the way. I've been playing with the OG Gamecube controls, after originally playing on the Wii, and after going through the modern Doom games on console, and honestly have no qualms with it. It's literally my first time playing any shooter with tank controls, and I'm immediately hit by how over exaggerated the hate for them is.
Glad you liked it! I seriously miss Speed Booster, Shinespark and Screw Attack and really hope them back in MP4. Those powerups are essential to Metroid series and distincts it from other games.
Screwattack already was in MP2 & MP3 :). As for speed booster/shinespark: Well there is boostball, which so far was a perfect compromise as it makes much more sense in 3rd person (and it's actually really fast if you get used to it and know your environment)... and you can do a LOT of cool stuff with it (MP2+ already expanded it's versatility way beyond MP1's level where it's basically just used for halfpipes). I srsly cannot imagine how the implementation of a genuine speedbooster/shinespark in 1st person would function though... I mean maybe it could switch you into 3rd person (like Morph and Screwattack already does) once you charged it up and then kinda function like in Other M, but idk if that fits prime... that being said, if anyone can pull it off in a cool way, it would be Retro Studios.
I just watched some of your initial videos and I just gotta say your videos have greatly improved. It's nice to see you guys evolve from real amateur youtube games reviewers. To amateur reviewers who are nailing the video aspects! Gamers bringing gaming to the amateurs and experienced players alike. 👏 Way to go guys!
Fun part is, while watching your gameplay, I thought I was watching gameplay from the og release. Because back then this is what the game looked like to me as a young teen. This one with prime 2 echoes will forever be one of my favorite games.
Gotta say I love the scanning. The the main thing that makes me like Horizon Zero games on Playstation, love the hunt for all the hidden scalable objects and what goodies monters supply.
it's awesome that ppl like the combat in 2023, i thought maybe this game would feel too old-school in that way ... modern FPS games are so fast-paced and so advanced with so much subtly and precision required, but it seems that gamers were ready for this more dated combat experience ... I think this game just makes up for all its flaws with how charming and beautiful the world building is
Solid review. My only critique is that you failed to mention the performance. Not only is this game gorgeous on the switch graphically but the performance is a solid, silky smooth 60fps and it's also never crashed for me.
I kinda disagree on the scan visor. I do like it a lot, because it rewards me with a ton of world building and lore bits and it does make the world feel more alive - to me at least. When you scan the logs where the space pirates talk about you (Samus) and how you effortlessly break their security systems and access their data bases it's a pretty cool moment.
I do really enjoy the lore a lot. I just didn't like the break in momentum. Like I said tho I didn't have to scan all of it but it felt like an internal battle on wether or not to stop and do so every time I entered a room lol.
@@AmateurGameReview Have you played the Horizon Zero games on PS4/5? They basically have the same feature in the focus the main character uses. Go around scanning the world for lore and monsters for weak points.
@Amateur Game Review Games I definitely recommend, although I find the scanning in it often also hand holds a bit too much, tells you a little to much info as its More of a mainstream RPG / Action game ,so it's expected. If you're PC is decent the 1st ones on Steam cheap almost every sale.
not only Metroid Prime was ahead of its time, but also the best game of its generation and better than anything that came out on the PS2 and Xbox. This is why 20 years later it is still the GOAT
Your issues with scanning are literally self imposed and don't make sense, anything that's important to scan is color coded RED. Anything with a red scan icon will either be a bit of important story information, or the switch for a mechanism. The orange scan icons are placed on supplemental environmental stuff and text logs, and enemies. Like you said, you literally don't even have to scan anything that often. Maybe scanning could be mapped to a held bumper (in the future) so as not to take the player out of the pacing.
