Interesting game, the gameplay looks just like Commandos - Behind Enemy Lines. Most people might not remember it since it's a game from the 90's, but it was one of my 1st game in which you actually needed to use your brains :)). Like the idea of the Japanese approach and also i'm a big fan of this game gender... Thanks for another great video! Cheers ^^
1st let me start by thanking Downward Thrust because this is the 1st thing I ever won! ^^ ... 2nd I was right about Shadow Tactics: Blades Of The Shogun it plays exactly like Commandos, granted with better graphics! I really enjoy the game so far and the characters that you get to play with are unique and interesting!
Just finished the game this weekend and the expansion 3 minutes ago .. i felt pleasure in tactics, atmosphere, characters, epic story, and awesome closure for the characters with the AIKO's choise DLC/expansion that was short but so good it reminded me of the MASS EFFECT CITADEL DLC!
Am a huge fan of the Commandos and Desperados series (and even robin hood!). Played the hell out of those games. Unfortunately most of them are a bit old now and didn't age too well. This game is what I have been waiting for a really long time!
The main reason I want to play Shadow Tactics is because I'm a huge of the Commandos series. Commandos 2 being the first PC game I ever played. Just very recently found out about this game and I can't contain my excitement!
+Red&Black Flag I wish they would remaster them, or somehow play at higher resolutions. I may be a bit bias since Commandos 2 was the game that got me me into strategy and pc games in general. If Shadow Tactics looks interesting to you, yes I would definitely recommend the Commandos series (2 in particular) I'm sure you can pick it up for relatively cheap. The steam version however gave me issues on windows 10 a while back, I don't know if they fixed it yet.
Descalabro Man I totally forgot about that when looking at shadow tactics! My older cousin had it back in the day. I basically watched him play through the whole thing. That's a great one too, it has one of my favorite soundtracks.
I really want to play this because I must've played through Commandos 2 around ten times. Love this type of game and it's been so long since I've had the opportunity to play a new one. Great review - subscribed.
I'm in such a hurry to see the game being released next month on the PS4 (especially because it got a physical release). I really enjoy this type of games (since Vandal Hearts 1&2, Front Mision or Civilization on the PS1) but they are less and less to get console releas. But the worst is that when you get Xcom 2, the studio that ported it, has failed the optimisation so, when you are rather far in the adventure, the loadings can take several minutes and this ruins he experience you get (i stopped playing it though i love the franchise and even bought the season pass), i wished they patched it but it seems Fireaxis doesn't want to interfere with the version. What a shame because it may be a good game for those who are not familliar with RTS to jump on the train, but the port would make them go away for good.
As a fan of all things Japan, I have to say this captures the spirit of several games that come to mind immidiately: Tenchu, Shogun - Total War, and in some small part, Shinobi. I love the art style of this game. I am pretty sure this is a "gotta have" game.
Heya! As a former developer in the now classic Commandos saga, I can't understand how I never heard of this game. Would love it if you could send me a copy! Thanks and keep making these awesome reviews!
I loved the Commandos series of yore, and this looks like a perfect callback to those ever-so-satisfying stealth games! If this could start a new renaissance for the genre, the World would be a better place for it! I for one can wait to chuck down my 6th cup of cold java at 3am while pondering if Yuki should risk sprinting from her safe place behind the shed, or wait until Hayato is in position to kill the sentry...(disclaimer: I don't actually own the game, I've just been following it on the devs page and youtube etc. But I'd like, nay, love to own it!)
So, why i want to play it? Well i'm a huge XCOM fan, so addicted, that i was playing terror from the deep during exams, back in the day! BUT, the way i see this game from your review, it also reminds me of another big addiction of mine, which was the Commandos series!! It really looks like it has a similar gameplay. So in other words, if i win it, i'm gonna vanish from the face of the earth for a few days until i finish it! Thanks for another nice video review. Much appreciated!
Played all of the Pyro Studios games of Commandos...Wanted so badly for Pyro to make something new in such tactical rts style like Commandos did, this looks like dream come true! :D
XCOM or Commandos??!! Totally different games, man, hahaha. It's Commandos/Desperados all the way. I found that comparison awkward, but good review anyways. Thx for the video! Ps.: Oh, and a suggestion: when talking about the sound, specially the voice acting, let it play a little, so we can hear how it sounds ingame. Thx again!
saw the quick video on steam. so glad i saw you reviewed it and With your review this s a game id love to play and win possibly :) . loved the getting caught commentary. lol . also loved the history lesson in the beginning
I want to play this game because there is no other game really like this one, it is very unique. I don't have many games to play right now and this one looks appealing. Thanks so much for the giveaway man it means a lot.
First video I've watched from you. You've got yourself a subscriber. I get a Commandos vibe from the game which is awesome. Not enough of these types of games around.
Id like to check this game out. Been waiting for a good stealth type ninja game for a long time. Mark of the Ninja almost got me to play it, but I'm not as interested in platformers as I used to be. The artwork in this game alone is begging me to dive into it, but until the VA gets its stuff together, Im strapped on funds so it'll have to wait. Thanks for the review, completely sold me on it when I can get it.
also I bought this game from a online store and it's been sitting there in my bookcase for a few months now. I never knew I had such a beautiful game on my hands :) I shall be opening this and paying soon. tomorrow
I really want to play this since I am studying Japanese and this game has both Japanese text and voices and my lecturer said games can be a good source for learning. I also really enjoyed the demo ^^
man this reminds me of desperados dead or alive. one of my the first games i ever played and a game which every win felt like a creative triumph using and figuring out combinations of all of the characters abilities to beat each unique level. ah nostalgia... was only about 9 and i absolutely loved that game
I want to play this game because Total War Shogun 2 and XCOM Enemy Within and Unknown are my two favorite strategy games, Played over 100 hours in both.
Tip: Review a lot of newer games like this one because people will be looking up these games for reviews when released, as did I and found your channel. :D
Wow it's been a while since I last saw a game like this. Used to play desperados a lot when I was a kid, and the demo for this one was awesome. Fingers crossed!
I'm just in love with stealth games, and the good art and level design, with the japanese scenario, will surely make me buy it during sales (40€ is too much). Unless I'm so lucky to win it, of course xD
Loved Commandos back in the day (though never finished it, as it was pretty hard), and loved Mark of the Ninja (hopefully it will come to PS4, or to XBO through BC), and absolutely love love love Japanese Samurai/Ninja movies/stories, and Japan as a country in general (feels so safe over there...), so would absolutely love this game, big-time. Also a perfect game to play on PC (which I prefer over consoles when it comes to tactical/strategy games...)
Well, I want to play Shadow Tactics because I love tactical games with stealth mechanics and there aren't many games of this type out there. Shadow Tactics looks like Desperados I game I really liked. So I want to try this game...
Really enjoyed the Xcom games, and I have been looking for another tactics game but haven't found anything interesting until I found out about this today, it looks really fun!
I love MGS, Deus Ex, Dishonored and similar games, I also kinda enjoyed Desperados and Robin Hood when I was way younger but they're pretty damn dated now, this is a godsend.
This is 5€ on Playstation right now, what a steal, I was afraid the controls would be less developed than Desperados III is on a controller-but nope, it’s just as great!
its a good game i hope 2nd one will be better and MULTIPLAYER as they said also level designer omg that feature would be the best. if you enjoy this i recommend you to play Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood, for me RhLoS is way better than this one but its kinda old and not for everyone. for general its easier but more tactical options for me also operating from the forest is super cool. this games makes me wanna create game just like theese ones
Game seems amazing and the art style looks great, $40 seems like a bit much though. The level design seems like it has a lot of replayability though since you can go about it so many ways so I'll probs pick it up on sale
I want to play Shadow tactics because I never win anything...and I love XCOM-type TBSs. Edit: I take that back. I once won a Halloween themed cake, with spiders drawn on it with frosting, at a fair back in the early 90s.
I have missed Japanese stealth assassin games. Every since the Tenchi series on the PlayStation, It has been seriously lacking in the gaming industry. If this is what you say it is, then I can't wait till I can pick this one up.
Can't disagree more, except with the cons: I played on normal... on the very first level... and it's like, zero sum, do it like this or get fked kind of gameplay... and even the figuring out part isn't fun because it's less like stealth and more like a tight-ass puzzle game, and you're just savescumming every 0.3 secs. Some asinine shit goin on, really: Spent about 20 mins on a room trying to clear it, didn't work because lets have ALL the guards cover ALL the guards and infinitely spawning guards from a building. When you kill one, it just gets replaced, good fkin idea! After that I just said fk it and stormed the door, turns out opening the door triggers a cutscene and resets the entire level and everyone I pissed off just magically forgets what happened and I'm back to a clean slate... my ninja even got his shuriken back that I left on the ground before the trigger... it's so dumb and arbitrary. This is like all the bad things about stealth/puzzle games without any of the good things. I think it throws WAY too much shit at the player this early. Oh well, my backlog list is long, might get back to it once I "got gud". :P But as of now, I'm really disappointed and highly annoyed.
- Japanese history and culture?: Check! - Amazing level design?: Check! - Punishing yet fair stealth mechanics?: Check! - Beautiful art design?:Check! I don't see why this wouldn't be up my alley, just gotta scrounge up that $40...
a non linear no hands holding puzzle stealth game, god that sounds amazing. Moreover its set in feudal japan, that's a massive plus for someone that loves the country's history like me!
I'd love to play this because I enjoy Japanese themed stealth games. Anyone remember Tenchu? Also, this reminds me of Commandos.
Tenchu!
omg Tenchu yo... i remember.
Tenchu was my first ever hyped game as a kid. Remember reading game pro magazine and obsessing about it all the time for years.
Cheers ^^
Thanks!
Hey please see my twitter announcement.
I think i just did, not sure since I don't really use twitter :)
Awesome man glad you are enjoying the giveaway!

I suppose you've also played Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood, and the other tactical games from Spellbound?
Descalabro Man I totally forgot about that when looking at shadow tactics! My older cousin had it back in the day. I basically watched him play through the whole thing. That's a great one too, it has one of my favorite soundtracks.
Wow i remember that game!!!
Been waiting for a game like that since commandos. This is awesome!
Didn't you play Desperados? It's less known game, but it was pretty much new Commandos set in Wild West.
I really want to play this because I must've played through Commandos 2 around ten times. Love this type of game and it's been so long since I've had the opportunity to play a new one.
Great review - subscribed.
I would love to play this game, based on the review, the setting, and the fact that I'm just now getting into stealth games.
Thanks for posting.
I want to play this game because it is reminiscent of games like Commandos and it is set during one of my favorite historical periods, feudal Japan.
This review sold me on this game. Really great and thorough review!
I'm in such a hurry to see the game being released next month on the PS4 (especially because it got a physical release). I really enjoy this type of games (since Vandal Hearts 1&2, Front Mision or Civilization on the PS1) but they are less and less to get console releas.

NP!
Good review, appreciate the mashup of historical background
I loved the Commandos series of yore, and this looks like a perfect callback to those ever-so-satisfying stealth games! If this could start a new renaissance for the genre, the World would be a better place for it! I for one can wait to chuck down my 6th cup of cold java at 3am while pondering if Yuki should risk sprinting from her safe place behind the shed, or wait until Hayato is in position to kill the sentry...(disclaimer: I don't actually own the game, I've just been following it on the devs page and youtube etc. But I'd like, nay, love to own it!)

I love tatical games, stealth elements, and Samurai, that's why I want to play it!
Aah... still remember "Night of the Wolves" in Commandos 2. Would love to relive all the nostalgia in Shadow Tactics!
I want to play this game because there is no other game really like this one, it is very unique. I don't have many games to play right now and this one looks appealing. Thanks so much for the giveaway man it means a lot.

Welcome to the channel!
Well written review. I'm enjoying this game very much. Hope there will be a expansion one day.
Keep up the good work...😀👍
Man, I really missed this style of games. Can't wait to try it out. The world deserves more Commandos/Desperados games.
Agreed

Subject matter interests me very much. And a fan of XCOM and the old Commando style games. Wish I win the key!
also I bought this game from a online store and it's been sitting there in my bookcase for a few months now. I never knew I had such a beautiful game on my hands :) I shall be opening this and paying soon. tomorrow
I really want to play this since I am studying Japanese and this game has both Japanese text and voices and my lecturer said games can be a good source for learning. I also really enjoyed the demo ^^

You're review made me download the game, thanks.
I would love to play this game because it looks like it has the feel of the old Tenchu games.
reminds me of the Old commandos series. I would spend the whole Day playing it. this seems like a nice oriental version of it
That's not PC bro
Desperados in Feudal-Japan? oh yes!
Been itching for another stealth japanese ninja game since Mark of the Ninja by Klei. Loved that game. This looks right up my alley.
Right on!
I love the theme and this period in Japanese history, and I'm loving the look of the gameplay
I would love to play this game! It's a comeback for RTS + Stealth games!
Well, I want to play Shadow Tactics because I love tactical games with stealth mechanics and there aren't many games of this type out there. Shadow Tactics looks like Desperados I game I really liked. So I want to try this game...
Hope i can win...been ages since i played a god tactical strategy game..last being xcom 1...Anyways,keep up the great reviews! :D
Really enjoyed the Xcom games, and I have been looking for another tactics game but haven't found anything interesting until I found out about this today, it looks really fun!
+Downward Thrust
Did you do a steam review? Swear I read one earlier today with this exact dialogue lol
Sure did! It was a brief version of this video review, however.
I have been waiting for another quality Commandos-style game!
you just got yourself a subscriber..great review.
Thanks - look forward to more in the future.
Loved the old commandos games as a kid. I really dig this art style but I'll probably hold off until it goes on sale.
Yeah $40 is right on the line for me too.
Yeah.... also I sucked royally at commandos. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with stealth games.
this game is xcom but in one of the best time periods ever
I love MGS, Deus Ex, Dishonored and similar games, I also kinda enjoyed Desperados and Robin Hood when I was way younger but they're pretty damn dated now, this is a godsend.
Love mgs and dishonored. Beat dishonored without killing or being seen by anyone.
I wanna play this game cause its been long since RTS GAMES are good maybe shadow tactics bring my childhood back
"Kaj-sama"? C'mon, it's ka-ge with a hard G.
This is such an amazing nostalgia for the old commando fans!!!
Yeah it's great
This looks really intriguing and fun!
I loved tenchu and the new "Aragami", i'm positive i love this game having played the demo
This is 5€ on Playstation right now, what a steal, I was afraid the controls would be less developed than Desperados III is on a controller-but nope, it’s just as great!
That’s why I just got it watching during 8 min download
Love similar style games, namely XCOM and anything by KLEI. Would love to win a copy of this.
Also, I can't believe you didn't mention Commandos in your review lol.
Wanna play this game cause have been a fan of stealth games since i was a kid and need more of a challenge
its a good game i hope 2nd one will be better and MULTIPLAYER as they said also level designer omg that feature would be the best. if you enjoy this i recommend you to play Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood, for me RhLoS is way better than this one but its kinda old and not for everyone. for general its easier but more tactical options for me also operating from the forest is super cool. this games makes me wanna create game just like theese ones

It's steep, but I think it's worth it. Not sure if most people will for that amount of money, however.
I just got the game for 4$ on steam
2 of my favourite games, Commandos and Xcom + free game = yes please
I want to play Shadow tactics because I never win anything...and I love XCOM-type TBSs.
Edit: I take that back. I once won a Halloween themed cake, with spiders drawn on it with frosting, at a fair back in the early 90s.
LOL. Nice
I have missed Japanese stealth assassin games. Every since the Tenchi series on the PlayStation, It has been seriously lacking in the gaming industry. If this is what you say it is, then I can't wait till I can pick this one up.
why, i love commandos series, and this looks very simmilar :) + i love RTS games
Robin Hood - Legend of Sherwood.
Game looks great! I love any game related to history.
Hey there, did the winners for the Blade & Bones giveaway get announced?
Hi Vitor, yes I added a pinned comment to that video announcing the winner. I'm going to do it through my Twitter going forward, it's easier.
Thanks! I found it, but I don't think the comment is actually pinned,, just fyi.
Oh really...my fail. I'll fix that..
Incredible game! I'm so hooked.
trying new genre. the historical approach looks interesting . but hey. .free is always welcome.
How did this remind you of X-COM?
I would love a copy of this because I could never afford the early 90's Mitsubishi version.
that save/load feature turned me away. if not for that save scum garbage i think i would have got this.
I Want The Game Because It Looks Awesome and its my bday if i dont win i will get it probably idk maybe :D
Pls give me the game :D, i love how this game has no pre-order early access, DLC BS this game need to be supported. btw nice review.
Normaly i´m not so in RTS but this one looks nice.
Yeah - it's great for people who love Japanese lore!
i really cant wait to play this
Is there any rpg progression? Any sort of progression with skills. Your review is super barebones.
I need a free copy because it reminds me Commandos Series.
About the only recent game that has pulled me away from VR :D
Can't disagree more, except with the cons:
I played on normal... on the very first level... and it's like, zero sum, do it like this or get fked kind of gameplay... and even the figuring out part isn't fun because it's less like stealth and more like a tight-ass puzzle game, and you're just savescumming every 0.3 secs.
Some asinine shit goin on, really:
Spent about 20 mins on a room trying to clear it, didn't work because lets have ALL the guards cover ALL the guards and infinitely spawning guards from a building.
But as of now, I'm really disappointed and highly annoyed.
I want to play this game because I miss commandos!
It was truly awesome, wasn't it?
- Japanese history and culture?: Check!
- Amazing level design?: Check!
- Punishing yet fair stealth mechanics?: Check!
- Beautiful art design?:Check!
I don't see why this wouldn't be up my alley, just gotta scrounge up that $40...
Like my history lesson? Haha.
Yeah $40 is steep but when your game is this polished...I say wurf.
Downward Thrust
Da, it's wurf with the amount of detail and love that went into this.
BTW you free this weekend for some squadup?
I should be on a little bit yeah! Haven't played in a few days.
Downward Thrust
Oh and should we use discord? I rarely use what Origin does have...
Discord:The New Recruit
Let's start with squad voice chat. I'm technologically challenged :)
Am I the only person that wants to see a 3rd person option on this game?
a non linear no hands holding puzzle stealth game, god that sounds amazing. Moreover its set in feudal japan, that's a massive plus for someone that loves the country's history like me!
The last few missions can get really frustrating.
Mitachia yeah but once u beat em it's so satisfying huh?
This do remind me of commandos but haven't tried playing it.
Edo pronounced Eh-do. Shogun is Sho-goon, Daimyou pronounced Die-myoh
Anyone here played desperados 3 4 years later?
Does the game have always-om DRM?
Nope!
more stealth ninja games the better
"Show Gone"? Really?
lol awesome review. Way to butcher all those Japanese words and names, tho. lol
Commandos
Jagged Alliance was the best... I miss games like that
I have this game great game
Cringing every single time I hear you say "shogon".
Show-gun ;)
And show-gunite instead of shogunate.
Yeah, that hurt my ears, too.
He said "kaje" instead of "kage"
Shut up, weeb.
cringing at u gross fuckin weebs lmao
