I made my first goat curry watching ur video. I wanted to impress my man cause he Guyanese. I couldve asked him, but I wanted surprise him. I followed ur revipe to a t. Not only did he like it, but the mom too. It was like 2 or 3 years ago. U know Guyanese moms are not easy to impress. U have awesome recipes. Thx.
ThAT's an amazing idea Matthew. I don't like dal. So this is perfect. My measurement for roti is 3 cups flour to about 1 and 1/4 cups of warm water. The first cup you go all in. Save the 1/4 cup to see what happens...add as needed. You might need another 1/4 to add as needed. Hope that helps anyone looking for measurements.
Seriously you make great videos on dishes I grew up with. Sometimes I find it tough to get recipes from family. Thank you for the clear instructions. Also I like that you mention what other ingredients are used sometimes so that we all are familiar. Great job!
It so amazing how you talk through the recipe so well...and makes it seem so easy i will be trying this recipe for sure Looks real soft and yummy. Love all of your recipes.👍
This is so delicious! Great idea, I never thought about using chickpeas. I actually prefer this over split pea and it's so much easier! I already made it twice. I made 8 puri, I like mine on the thinner side and I like when the edges are rolled out well. First time I made 6. They are so soft. A keeper for me. Thank you!
thanks i made perfect roti a week ago i believe after 50 tries,, blew up and all!!!50 or more tries!!!!,,whew,!!finally,, i will try the chana roti ,i am glad i can just buy the chickpea in the can ,,and i have broad leaf growing in my back yard in SoCal.i am waiting for my new 15" cast iron flat pan or tawa ,should be arriving tomorrow, and i just got a great chopper hope it works as it says,,,
I saw this tonight on Utube done a trini way but there was no recipe how to prepare the Channa. So, I checked and yours came up and boy was I happy 😃 trying it tomorrow 09/08/21 and I will let you know how it turns out. I will put my twist on the Channa like I do the split peas. Thanks Matthew 👏🏽👏🏽😆
Nice recipe just came across your channel and subscribed right away! For anyone who gets bloated when they eat dhal or channa (chickpeas) if they can stomach this they can use 1/2 a teaspoon of asofedita or hing when they are chunkey the dhal/channa it help breakdown the gas that the dhal/channa releases.it will be easier on the stomach.
Hi.Its quite similar to dal puri. In my country chana puri is another snack it is some mashed chana inside a flour paste. Some sort of stuffed pakora. Love from mauritius
Thank you so much for the chickpeas version I can't wait to make it. Just a few questions Where can I find the written instructions and where did you buy your roti tower?...thanks
Thanks for watching. The link to the tawa is below the video. There is no written instructions, that’s what the video is for. The ingredients faith measurements are in the description box below the video
Trinidad isn't the only place that makes Roti. With a large Indian-decent population, Guyanese food is similar and sometimes the same as Trinidadian food.
Hi Mathew I have tried making your chickpea puri everything was done right until putting the peas in the dough you made it look so simple I have to try again thanks Mathew I am also from Guyana
I grew up eating this really miss it. I can never find any places to buy this because it’s very unique, but I’m gonna attempt to make it thank you so much!
Wow, I have never seen anything like this! I was looking for a way to use chickpeas, which I find a little heavy and unpalatable served whole. I will have to explore this idea!!
Hallo Mattew. Are you using Electro stove or Gas. I am planing to buy castiron and wonder If they work with Electro oben as well. Be Blessed with Health. 💕💕💕 Austria 💐
I have been searching for this recipe with no luck...maybe because I didn't know what it was called. A friend from guyana use to bring me this roti. I'm beginning my journey of cooking up foods with madras, lamb, basmati and fillings for roti. Thanks soooo much for the excellent demo.
Yes rolling them thinner helps. Also make sure you follow the ingredients to a tee using measuring spoons/cups. And making sure not to overcook them on the tawa or else they will dry out and overcook
The chana mixture kept bursting out the side when I rolled these out. Resulting in it not puffing up when cooking, it also wasn’t light and fluffy in the end but heavy. Thinking maybe the mixture was too mushy and I didn’t drain the chana enough. 🤔
So you definitely need to drain the channa good. And when mashing put in the food processor to get it ground to a mushy paste. When the fulling is too wet it pops out of the sides. Trust me all it takes is some more practice as it did with me

Very delish. Thank you Matthew. What are eating your roti with?

I attempted to make it and i will be trying again. Good effort on my part but Im not quitting. I think i should have kneaded longer.
Can you tell us how many ounces the can of channa was and also the brand you used in the video? Thanks!
16 oz. Bush's Canned Chickpeas. Use any brand you want though
Thanks, Star! I’ll be trying this.
That looks so delicious thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching
I just made this and mine didnt turn out soft, but still tasted good. I think I needed to roll them thinner but was scared. I'll make them again.
Yes rolling them thinner helps. Also make sure you follow the ingredients to a tee using measuring spoons/cups. And making sure not to overcook them on the tawa or else they will dry out and overcook
Another amazing recipe 😍
Thank you!
Hey Matthew I soak and boil my channa with saffron and then grind with my dhall mill
Yes you can do that. This is just the quick way.
Great job though looks soft and delicious 💯
As usual I love watching your videos
Thank you

Bandania or culantro is a must in my puris.
Once in a while I add that in. And if you have it, then please use it. So delicious. Thanks for watching!
Thank you hun. Really enjoy your videos. Be safe in all that you do. Much love from Trinidad and Tobago.
@@sarahwilson4558 Thank you! I appreciate that. Stay safe as well
Where can I get the roller and board to buy?
Any home good store or amazon.
A see all different kind. Can you send me a link to the one you have please. 👏👏👏👏👏
I purchase the tawa yesterday, I want to make sure I have everything I need to make your roti.
@@foodlover3036 You can always roll the roti on your clean counter. But you will need a rolling pin
@@foodlover3036 I will try to look for it. The one I have was bought somewhere years ago.
Pl make gluten free. Ie. Channa puri
Will try soon
My grandmother is making this chana purrie since she was 15years old.🤣🙄 so its not new to me.
Oh wow. Didn't know it existed.
You're awesome!
Thanks
Isn't that the same as making paratha ?
In Guyana it is not. In a way similar to Indian style paratha though.
@@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 it looked nice n tasty in what you was making.
Thanks 🙏 I love ❤️
Thank you for watching and enjoying
Thasn
This is not puri..it's similar like stuffed paratha
In India it's called paratha
Yes different names. In Guyana this is a type of puri (that's why this is the name for me). But in India yes it is a paratha.
Tis looks delicious, I will definitely try it, stay safe

Hi Matthew I will definitely be giving this a try. Question, can this be frozen for future use?
You can freeze the finished puris by allowing them to cool then wrapping them in wax paper and freezing
